Slaan leads the others away from the arch and into a sheltered grove. Cool air settles over moss, root, and fern, and the violet pulse fades behind them into a distant bruise of light.

The grove is quiet enough to hear leaves shifting overhead. The stone underfoot is dark with damp, and pale surface light filters through the branches in thin, steady bands.

Vetta

Vetta

Better. The arch was listening too hard.

Mara

Mara

Here, it feels like the world is breathing on its own again.

Nhal

Nhal

The light is softer here. Less like a command.

Slaan comes to a stop beside a knot of exposed roots as the last edge of shadow-weave frays and vanishes from her spellwork. The grove does not answer with hunger, only with stillness.

Vetta

Vetta

If the archive changes again, we need to know whether it is warning us, or inviting us.

Understand what changed in the archive after the arch

" what do you mean changes again. From what I've seen the recent changes over the past year have been nothing but positive." I say " Kynes got direct control over the archive systems, and now the hall of welcome is starting to behave" I say plainly.

SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled -1)

Slaan

Slaan

What do you mean, changes again? From what I've seen, the recent changes over the past year have been nothing but positive. Kynes gets direct control over the archive systems, and now the Hall of Welcome is starting to behave.

Slaan speaks plainly, and the grove seems to take the words without flinching. Vetta’s brow eases a fraction, while Mara turns back from the path, listening more closely now.

Vetta

Vetta

Positive, yes. But directed. If the hall is behaving, it may be because someone is teaching it how to answer.

Mara

Mara

That is what worries me. A helpful archive and a trained archive can look the same until it chooses for you.

Nhal glances from one face to another, the violet glimmer in the distance no longer visible, only remembered. The old purpose of the place hangs over the quiet like a half-remembered inscription.

Vetta

Vetta

Then tell me this, Slaan, if it is changing under Kynes, is it being guided, or is it being steered?

"neither" I state plainly " it's relearning its oraginal shape" - I brake down the work I've done into helping it release its self.- " you yourself have been a victim of its hunger and hid memories of Bren on this very road." I finally finish

SUCCESS (Legendary Persuasion, rolled +0)

Slaan

Slaan

Neither. It is relearning its original shape.

Slaan

Slaan

I have been helping it release what was forced into it.

Slaan

Slaan

And you have felt its hunger yourself, on this road. You hid memories of Bren because of it.

Vetta

Vetta

Her posture stills, as if the answer lands harder than the challenge. The archive is not being marched into order, it is being returned.

Mara

Mara

Mara’s shoulders loosen by a fraction, then tighten again with recognition. The memory of the road sits between them now, undeniable.

Vetta

Vetta

Then it is not a hand on the reins. It is a correction... a restoration of an older intent.

Mara

Mara

If that is true, then we have been arguing about the wrong danger.

New Gift: Archive-Bound Intuition

" what danger ? " I plead. " The danger is forcing a will on to something that is formless. Ilyr Domini was the oraginal corruptor and it's taken a long time to undo the damage. Hell the original architect sacrificed himself to save the original void well. It was Ilyr Domini who literally poisoned the well."

What danger? The danger is forcing a will onto something formless. Ilyr Domini was the original corruptor, and the real poison took time to undo.

The architect sacrificed himself to save the original void well. It was Ilyr Domini who poisoned it.

Vetta

Vetta

Vetta’s gaze shifts, sharp and reassessing, as Slaan’s certainty redraws the shape of the argument.

Mara

Mara

Mara goes still, then her guarded expression eases into troubled recognition.

Vetta

Then the archive was never the disease. It was the wound, and someone else made it fester.

Mara

Mara

If that is true, then the question is not whether it warns us. It is who it remembers, and who it was built to protect.

Nhal

Nhal

Nhal watches from the roots, quiet relief returning as the old purpose of the place feels less like a trap and more like a scar being tended.

" Mara, these answers have come to light already." I stop. " They are literally in Kynes journals."

Slaan lets the silence settle, then points back to the source of the dispute with calm precision. The grove stills around her as she names the journals, not as rumor, but as record.

Slaan

Slaan

Mara, these answers have come to light already. They are literally in Kynes’s journals.

Mara

Mara

Mara’s hand tightens near her chest, then loosens as the claim lands. She looks less defensive, more caught between caution and relief.

Vetta

Vetta

Then we are not guessing at the shape of it. We are reading what was already found.

Nhal shifts near the roots, the faint violet memory in the air seeming less accusatory now, more like a guide traced by someone who expected to be misunderstood.

Mara

Mara

If Kynes wrote it down, then the archive’s intent is not hidden from us. We have been standing inside the answer.

Vetta

Vetta

Vetta’s gaze lifts toward the grove canopy, thoughtful and sharp. Her suspicion does not vanish, but it changes shape into measured curiosity.

The argument thins into a shared pause. No one reaches for a weapon, a ward, or a new objection, only for the possibility that the journals already hold the next step.

" I've read his journals." I pause " everything your trying to warn about has been delt with or is currently on the mend." I look to the two women " instead of chasing symptoms I've been literally working for the root cause. " I turn. " I will not be drug down nor will I let that man's name be degrade. " I stop and get a smile " because that fuck mothering wizard has given just about his entire self for not just the Hall of welcome, but for all of you.

I have read his journals. Everything you are trying to warn about has been dealt with, or is on the mend. I have been working the root cause, not the symptoms. I will not let his name be dragged through the mud, because that wizard has given nearly everything he has for the Hall, and for all of you.

Slaan’s words settle over the grove like warm rain. The violet hush in the roots does not flare, it simply listens. Mara’s shoulders sink a fraction, and Vetta’s sharp attention turns inward.

Mara

Mara

Then he has been carrying more than I gave him credit for.

Vetta

Vetta

If the journals say this plainly, then I have been testing a bridge while refusing to look at its stones. That is fair. Annoying, but fair.

Mara exhales through her nose, half relief and half embarrassment, while Nhal remains near the roots, visibly easier in the quieter air. The grove feels less like a witness stand now, and more like a shared seat beside the same fire.

Mara

Mara

Then tell me where the journals begin, and I will stop speaking as if I know better than the record.

Vetta

Vetta

And I will read them with a cleaner eye. If Kynes has been mending what was broken, I want to see how he did it.

The tension does not vanish, but it changes shape into consent. The group’s attention turns back toward the journals, now with trust held open instead of defended.
