The Hall of Welcome settles into a warm hush, ward line glowing softly underfoot. Bren lowers herself onto a bench near the hearth, while Nhal lingers by the table with careful, curious stillness.

Nhal
When I was in the archive, were all void-fed things like me, or was I only a tool shaped to fit their hunger?

Bren
Not all of them, I think. Some are born from a hunger, some are made into one. Archives can preserve a mind, but they can also teach it to feed.
Nhal looks down at the necklace resting against their chest, purple light faint beneath the cloak. Bren’s voice stays gentle, but her hands tighten around a cup.

Nhal
Then the cost is not only memory. It is appetite. It is the shape of wanting.

Bren
Yes. Knowledge asks for payment, and the worst of it never says the price aloud.
For a moment, no one speaks. The fire gives off a soft crackle, the ward line hums, and the room feels held together by quiet trust.

Learn what the archives' freedom may cost Phandelver
“" why do you ask Nhal?" Trying to guage her intentions.”
SUCCESS (Superb Persuasion, rolled +1)

Slaan
Why do you ask, Nhal?
Nhal lifts their head from the necklace, then turns that same careful attention toward Slaan instead of the fire.

Nhal
Because I think the archive was not only a prison. It was a sorter. It kept what could be shaped into hunger, and it hid what could leave and still want things.

Nhal
I want to know if my leaving changes the balance, or if the town only feels safer because it has not yet learned my shape.

Bren
If the archive taught wanting badly enough, then yes, that matters. A lesson like that does not stay behind cleanly.
Bren’s brows knit as she glances toward the ward line. Its soft glow seems smaller for a breath, like the room is listening.

Nhal
I am free, but freedom can still leave a footprint. I do not know whether Phandelver is reading mine yet.
“I ask Nhal what changed in the archive”
SUCCESS (Superb Persuasion, rolled -1)

Slaan’s question settles into the room, and Nhal does not answer at once. They look from the hearth to the ward line, then back to Slaan, as if measuring how much truth the common room can hold.

Nhal
The archive changed when it learned I could leave. It stopped sorting only for hunger, and began sorting for spillover, what might carry memory, habit, or appetite into the town.

Nhal
It used to keep curiosities in place. Now I think it was also keeping people from becoming doors without knowing it.

Bren
That is the part no one writes down, the cost after the lock is gone.
Bren’s grip tightens on her cup. The ward line gives a slow, uneasy pulse, then steadies, like the room has heard enough to be cautious.

Nhal
If my freedom leaves a trace, Phandelver may feel it in small ways first. A memory slipping loose. A secret surfacing. A place that once held grief deciding to answer it.
Nhal lowers their hand to the necklace again, then looks straight at Slaan, waiting to see whether this new truth changes what trust is for.
“" here's the thing. In Myth Drannor, we have no archive. Memories, secrets and knowledge is kept in the shappor. It's a moonelf archive per say however not like here. It's a large cave with crystals. The memories are held in the crystals can not be tampered with, and all memories are shared never stolen or asorbed. And never altered. The void-kin and void-fed are tasked with keeping things sorted like a library. And they are feed memory shards. Feely given and shared momeries." I explain”
SUCCESS (Superb Persuasion, rolled +3)

Slaan speaks plainly, and the hearth room seems to widen around the idea. She explains the shappor of Myth Drannor, the crystal cave where memory is held, shared, and never stolen.

Slaan
In Myth Drannor, memory lives in crystal. It is shared, not taken. Nothing is altered, nothing is absorbed.
Nhal goes still at that, one hand resting against the necklace while Bren’s brows lift in sharp, thoughtful surprise.

Nhal
So there are places where knowledge is kept without being fed on.

Slaan
Yes. The void-kin there keep the shards sorted, like librarians. They are given memory willingly, and that giving matters.

Bren
That is a gentler law than the archive’s. If it exists, it proves hunger is not the only shape of order.
Nhal’s shoulders loosen, but their gaze sharpens with a new, uneasy clarity. For the first time, the room does not feel only safe, it feels informative.

Nhal
Then my freedom may not only leave a trace. It may teach the town a different way to keep what it fears losing.
