A Stranger in the Rain

Rosmira slips into the narrow side street, rain ticking off brick and neon pooling in the puddles. At the far wall, a lone man in a charcoal hoodie is already there, half-hidden in shadow.

He is not watching the street. He is watching her.

You picked a bad place to hide. Or a good one, if you wanted privacy.

He straightens a little from the wall, hands loose, cautious but not scared. The tired look in his eyes matches the loneliness in the alley.

Leon Wolfe

Leon Wolfe

I am Leon. You look like you just got here, and like you do not want to be followed.

A distant footstep fades at the mouth of the street. Leon notices it too, then glances back to Rosmira as if weighing whether to pretend he saw nothing.

Leon Wolfe

Leon Wolfe

If you need a minute, stay here. I will not call anyone.

I nod at him, leaning against the wall to catch my breath catching a small hint of wet fur in the rain

SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled -2)

A Stranger in the Rain

Rosmira gives Leon a small nod and lets her shoulder settle against the brick. The wall is cool through the damp, and the breath she catches carries a faint wet-fur scent in with the rain.

Rosmira

Rosmira

Wet fur. Not from the street.

Leon notices the shift in her attention. His eyes flick toward the alley mouth, then back to her, more careful now.

You smell it too, huh. I thought I was imagining it.

A thin drip slips from the fire escape above and lands on Rosmira’s hand. Leon pushes a half-step away from the wall, making room without crowding her.

If you want, I can keep watch while you catch your breath. You do not look like you should be alone out here.

From the street entrance, a shape pauses under the neon spill, then continues out of sight. Leon lowers his voice, waiting for Rosmira to answer.

i let leon keep watch while i better mask myself as human

SUCCESS (Good Willpower, rolled +1)

A Stranger in the Rain

Rosmira lets the damp air roll over her, then eases her aura down until it sits quieter against the world. The sharp wrongness of her presence softens, and the alley seems to accept her a little more easily.

Rosmira

Rosmira

Better.

Leon watches her face, then gives a small exhale of relief when her posture settles instead of tightening. The rain keeps tapping the bricks around them, steady and private.

Leon Wolfe

That helps. You look less like someone being hunted, and more like someone who just needs a minute.

His voice stays low, but the concern in it shifts toward something gentler. The stranger at the alley entrance is gone from sight, yet the memory of that pause still hangs there.

I know what it is to feel out of place. If you want, we can just stand here until the street calms down.

Rosmira’s new disguise holds. Leon’s shoulders loosen a fraction, and the space between them feels less like cover and more like company.

I smell something or someone new coming fast we have to move now!!!

SUCCESS (Legendary Perception, rolled +3)

A Stranger in the Rain

Rosmira’s head snaps toward the mouth of the alley. A fresh scent cuts through the rain, fast and deliberate, and the calm in the air breaks at once.

Rosmira

Rosmira

Someone’s coming.

She moves first, slipping deeper under the overhang and angling for the side street. Leon turns with her, immediate and alert.

Leon Wolfe

Leon Wolfe

That’s not the same person from before.

He reaches down, hooks two fingers under a rusted service gate, and pulls it open just enough for them to pass. Water drips off the frame in cold silver threads.

Inside the narrow passage, the rain noise dulls. Through the gap, a figure’s shadow slides past the alley entrance, searching but not stopping.

Leon Wolfe

Leon Wolfe

In there, quick. I think this side path leads around the block.

As Rosmira squeezes through, her muted aura finally catches the stranger’s attention just long enough for the shape outside to hesitate. Leon catches that hesitation too, and looks back at her with surprise, as if he has noticed there is more to her than plain bad luck.
