Mara returns alone to the safe house, carrying Veyra’s notes and the clear violet shard. The northern camp, Nera, and the others remain far behind at Ashbridge.
She arranges warded candles, black ink, and tracing stones across the table, then places the shard above the relay evidence without touching either artifact.

Mara
The first comparison remains stable.
Violet lines rise between the stones, reproducing the beacon, sealed cleft, witness thread, and watcher’s withdrawal. The pattern holds without opening any boundary or calling anyone.
For the second experiment, Mara shifts one tracing stone along the withdrawal angle. The shard darkens, then reveals a finer personal mark beneath the watcher’s disciplined method.
The mark is neither Veyra’s relay nor Vaelis’s cleansed craft. It suggests a route toward the observer’s identity, but no contact, summons, or passage follows.
One candle gutters though the wards remain sound. The hidden mark waits in the ink, incomplete and legible, offering Mara a choice of further comparison or careful preservation.
“I shelve the investigation experiments for now. I start working on a way to leave my body in its soul collector form, leaving my body safe or in away to make its self appear as if I am awake.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled +0)

Mara closes the unfinished comparison and shelves the tracing stones. She opens her spell book to a clean page, leaving Veyra’s notes and the violet shard undisturbed.
With measured arcane diagrams, she separates breath, awareness, and soul-collector form, designing the working around her own healed tether rather than any external boundary.

Mara
The body must remain safe, responsive, and visibly awake.
The first circle settles beneath her chair. A second, gentler pattern enters her limbs, preserving warmth, breathing, and the small motions of wakefulness without borrowing another will.
Mara releases the working. Her spirit rises in layered soul-collector vestments while her body remains seated, breathing evenly, eyes open, and fingers resting naturally over the closed spell book.
The tether holds steady between flesh and spirit. From outside, the body appears awake and calm; within the room, no ward is disturbed and no foreign presence answers.
Mara records the completed method in her spell book: a safe bodily sentinel and a controlled soul-collector form, both sustained without opening the shelved investigation.
“I return to my body”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -1)

Mara guides her spirit down the steady tether. The room’s colors gather around her, and the seated body receives her awareness without resistance.
Her spirit settles completely into flesh. Breath deepens, her eyes remain open, and her fingers flex naturally against the closed spell book.

Mara
My body is awake and responsive.
The layered soul-collector vestments dissolve into ordinary robes. The translucent Soulcatcher presence folds back into its familiar form beside the chair.
Both circles fade cleanly from the floor, leaving only faint warmth in the stones. No ward shifts, and the shelved notes and violet shard remain undisturbed.
Mara is fully restored to her body, conscious and steady within the safe house. The completed method remains recorded, while the unfinished comparison waits untouched on the shelf.
Mara leaves Ashbridge safe house behind and arrives at Talon Tower.
“I go to the hall of welcome, and through the portal network I return to talon Tower”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Talon Tower receives Mara beneath its violet warning mark. Cold stone rises around her, carrying dust, old rain, and the faint metallic scent of preserved spellwork.
The portal network seals behind her without turbulence. No companion crosses with her, and the tower’s outer chamber remains empty except for its standing arch and dim floor sigils.
Her arrival stirs the lawful channel keyed to her scarred history. Violet lines illuminate the familiar stair, while a newer angular mark appears beside the permanent warning.

Mara
The new mark was placed after my last visit.
The mark does not open a passage or reach toward Mara. It depicts a sealed chamber below the tower, then folds into a clear sign of permitted inspection.
A low vibration passes through the stones. Somewhere beneath the tower, a dormant record has recognized her return and begun displaying its boundaries.
The stair remains open, the warning mark steady, and the new sign waits in violet light, offering Mara a direct route into the tower’s newly awakened record.
“I walk up to a door that leads down”

Mara follows the violet stair downward, her healed hand passing beneath the angular mark without touching its light. The tower remains quiet around her.
The stair ends at a narrow stone landing. A door stands there, its surface dark and unadorned except for the same sealed-chamber sign.
No latch resists her approach. As Mara walks up to the door, violet lines gather around its frame and reveal a permitted descent.

Mara
The door leads down, and the record has marked the passage for inspection.
The door opens inward without sound, exposing steps descending through cool darkness. A steady violet glow marks each tread, while the landing remains clear behind her.
Beyond the threshold, the newly awakened record continues below the tower. Nothing follows Mara, and no seal changes as the downward way waits open.

Determine what the newly awakened tower record reveals
“Ignoring the records I redo the spell that completely shut down the archive in all of its forms. Adding a necrotic flair to the ritual to the archive because the tower should be now devoid of any power.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Arcana, rolled -1)

Mara leaves the awakened record unread. She opens her spell book on the landing and redraws the archive-shutdown rite, adding a necrotic spiral around its final seal.
Violet light drains from the steps as her magic takes hold. The angular mark, the warning sigil, and every dormant channel beneath the tower answer together.
Necrotic shadow passes through the stone without harming it, extinguishing stored power, active wards, preserved signals, and every alternate form of the archive’s working.
The descending glow dies tread by tread. Hidden chambers lose their resonance, sealed records become inert matter, and no route, summons, or recognition remains in the tower.

Mara
The tower holds no active archive power.
Mara completes the final stroke. The necrotic flair folds inward and disappears, leaving the stone cold, the spell book steady, and the entire archive shut down in every form.
Silence settles through the stairwell. The door behind her remains only a door, while the tower’s violet warning and newly awakened record are both powerless and inert.
