Zhurrem beats hard into the night, his wings thumping like war drums over the black marsh. The Iron Spire falls behind them, but the cold does not, a pale mist still clinging to the caster in his jaws.
For many minutes they fly in silence, only the wingbeats and the caster’s faint freezing breath marking the way. Below, the marsh opens into darker water and twisted trees glazed in unnatural ice.
At last Zhurrem drops into a distant hollow, far from the shattered spire. His claws bite into frozen mud, and the ground answers with a brittle sheen of frost.
As Kamakulzar slides down, the unconscious caster in Zhurrem’s grip exhales a thicker plume of cold. The mist crawls over the ice at their feet, not fading, but feeding it.

Kamakulzar
The frost is spreading on purpose.
The trapped caster’s chill threads into the clearing like roots, trying to take hold of the living ground. Zhurrem’s spine crackles with warning static as he lowers his head and keeps the body pinned.
The three cloaked figures are not gone from the story, only beaten back. This frost bears their work, and the anchor it makes is meant to return.
“I cast remove curse”
SUCCESS (Great Arcana, rolled +0)

Kamakulzar draws the curse-thread off the caster with a low rite, and the frost jerks as if something clamps shut inside it. Ice film cracks back from the hollow floor, and the spreading sheen slows at once.

Kamakulzar
The frost is tethered.
The caster’s body spasms in Zhurrem’s jaws. A blackened line, thin as wire, flashes from their chest into the frozen mud, then gutters and thins under the spell.

Zhurrem
You felt that too. It was not only a chill, it was a latch.
The caster coughs out a ragged breath of white and slumps heavier, no longer feeding the ice with the same force. The hollow still glitters cold, but the crawl of frost loses its hunger.

The Caster
It... holds the mark. Break me, and it comes back hungry.
The words land with a sour cost. Kamakulzar’s hand burns where the rite leaves it, and the red wreath berry stain on his fingers darkens against the cold. Behind them, the ruined spire’s far-off pulse seems to answer once, faint but stubborn.
“I interrogate them”
SUCCESS (Great Persuasion, rolled -1)

Kamakulzar
Then say it plain. What is the mark, and why does breaking you wake it?

The Caster
A latch. A hungry one. It is tied into the tether they laid beneath the ice, and my breath keeps it fed.
Zhurrem loosens his jaws just enough for the caster to speak, but keeps one massive paw braced over their chest. The hollow’s frost continues to lose ground while the ruined spire pulses faintly in the distance, like a slow heartbeat through stone.

The Caster
I am not the source. I am the seam they fasten to. Cut me away clean, and the line snaps back to them... if they are still alive to hold it.

Kamakulzar
The tether is the anchor.

The Caster
You want a name? Not mine. The one who bound this was the binder. The drow struck. The elf fed the ward. I only carried the chill.
The confession costs them, a shiver running through their body as the black thread in the mud gutters thinner. Kamakulzar’s stained fingers smoke with strain, and the cold on the hollow floor no longer spreads, it waits.
