The Spire Cracks Under Fire

The white flare still burns in the trio's eyes when the necrotic lattice buckles below the Iron Spire. Frost hisses up the seam, and shadow jitters like a torn veil.

The Second Cloaked Figure, blinking hard through tears, drops one hand to the inside of their robe and draws a small ankle-hidden crossbow.

The shot cracks out and sinks into Kamakulzar's right shoulder, high near the chest. The impact jolts him, and the spellwork beneath the summit shudders harder in answer.

Kamakulzar

Kamakulzar

The lattice is losing its grip.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

Bind him now, before the light fades!

Zhurrem lunges in with bronze scales sparking, while the broken anchor seam spits frost and dark vapor. The entity below strains upward, trying to harden itself through the spire before the opening closes.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

Keep him on the line. If he falls, the whole knot breaks!

I put my arms out fingers straight and through demonic force not arcane release internal flames at them

FAILURE (Good Fire arcana, rolled -2)

The Spire Cracks Under Fire

Kamakulzar throws both arms wide, fingers rigid, and drives his demonic heat outward. The flames answer, but they snag on the shattered seam and burst sideways in a sheet of white steam and blackened frost.

The Second Cloaked Figure jerks back as the fire misses cleanly, their robe hem singed instead of their body. The crossbow in their hand slips loose and skitters against the iron crown.

The heat hits the seam first. It is hooked into the spire.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

The mark is waking under him. Drive him off the summit!

Zhurrem slams into the line, and the impact sends a crack racing through the frozen rim. Frost peels away in plates, and the erratic pulse beneath the spire stutters.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

Too late. The lattice is showing.

For one sharp instant, Kamakulzar sees it, a dark vein under the iron, lit by his own failed flame. It runs toward a lower seam on the far side, a reachable break if he can move the heat there.

I close my hands together, thumbs touching, hands open palms down, arms straight in a dive position and concentrate the flames and increase them

SUCCESS (Good Fire arcana, rolled +0)

The Spire Cracks Under Fire

Kamakulzar snaps his hands together, thumbs touching, and flattens them palm-down as he dives his focus straight into the cracked seam. Heat gathers between his wrists, tight and controlled, then surges down into the iron vein.

The exposed dark line answers at once. Flame sinks into it instead of bursting free, and the seam glows from within with a harsh, trapped red that crawls along the break.

Zhurrem keeps driving into the line, shoulder and foreleg hammering the rim as frost splinters away in sheets. The lattice beneath the summit stutters harder, its pulse turning ragged.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

He is feeding it into the break. Cut him off!

The Second Cloaked Figure lunges to recover the dropped crossbow, but the iron crown shudders under their hand and the weapon skids out of reach again. Their bindings wobble, stretched thin by the heat.

Kamakulzar keeps the flame pinned inside the vein, but the strain bites back at him. His shoulder wound throbs hot, and the red berry stain on his fingers smears black against the iron as the seam opens wider.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

The lower seam is lit. Hold him there, now!

For a sharp moment, the spire’s pulse climbs toward a crackling peak, and the whole summit leans into the next strike.

I target the trio with the internal flames

SUCCESS (Good Fire arcana, rolled +0)

The Spire Cracks Under Fire

Kamakulzar drives the gathered fire deeper, and the red vein inside the spire spits it outward in a vicious pulse. The summit flashes from within, then the backlash slams into the trio’s linked casting line.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

Break the line! He is burning through the anchor!

The Hooded Figure jerks hard as the binding spell snaps unevenly, one arm thrown wide to keep balance while frost plates burst from the rim behind them. Zhurrem bears down again, and the fractured edge gives with a grinding shriek.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

The summit is failing, pull back, pull back!

The Second Cloaked Figure finally gets fingers on the dropped crossbow, but the weapon is wrenched sideways by the shaking crown and slips free again. Their shoulder jerks as the heat inside the seam scorches the tethered magic around them.

Kamakulzar

Kamakulzar

The seam is open.

A fresh burst of internal flame leaps through the crack, and all three cloaked figures reel at once as their formation breaks apart. The red wreath berry stain on Kamakulzar's fingers blurs against the iron while the spire keeps pulsing, louder now, with the lower vein blazing red.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

Name yourselves, if you mean to die here!

The question hangs over the summit as the spell line shatters, the frost rim crumbling in sheets, and the trio loses its clean grip on Kamakulzar.

I continue the flames, digging deep from darkness

SUCCESS (Good Fire arcana, rolled +2)

The Spire Cracks Under Fire

Kamakulzar keeps the flame fed, and the crack answers with a deeper red glow. The iron around the seam softens, then splits open enough to show a black channel beneath the spire's skin.

The Third Cloaked Figure stumbles back from the blast, robe snapping in the wind. "That vein, it is the anchor, tear it open!"

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

The line is gone, fall back before it takes us with it!

Zhurrem slams into the broken rim again, and the edge collapses in a loud shower of frost and iron flakes. The summit tilts under him, exposing more of the glowing channel.

The Second Cloaked Figure

The Second Cloaked Figure

No, no, keep the mark sealed, keep him from seeing it!

Kamakulzar

Kamakulzar

Kamakulzar drives the fire lower into the seam, forcing the hidden vein to flare bright and bare.

The spire shudders hard. For one raw instant, three separate names or seals flicker across the exposed magic before the light tears apart and the assault line dies.

I channel myself, releasing my darkness through my flames

SUCCESS (Good Fire arcana, rolled +1)

The Spire Cracks Under Fire

Kamakulzar lets the darkness run through the flame, and the fire turns heavy, black at the core. It spears straight into the exposed vein.

The hidden channel bursts open, and the spire’s pulse stutters hard. Frost peels back from the seam in smoking sheets.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

No, the seal seal breaks. It knows us now!

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

Leave the summit. Move!

Zhurrem hammers the rim one last time, and the broken edge gives way beneath him. Iron shards and ice tumble outward into the wind.

The Second Cloaked Figure

The Second Cloaked Figure

The line is dead. We are exposed.

The three flickering names in the vein gutter out as the black channel caves in on itself. The coordinated assault dies with the crack.

I run leap onto Zhurrem

SUCCESS (Good Athletics, rolled +1)

The Spire Cracks Under Fire

Kamakulzar drives off the shattered edge and lands hard against Zhurrem’s back, one hand clamping into bronze hide while the other catches his own weight. The spire shrieks below them, then starts to slump inward.

The Third Cloaked Figure

The Third Cloaked Figure

Don’t let them get clear. Cut the mark off him!

Kamakulzar rises into a low crouch on the dragon’s spine, braced for motion. Zhurrem snaps his head around and banks away from the collapsing summit, wings hauling them out over the drop.

The Second Cloaked Figure

The Second Cloaked Figure

The line is gone. It is falling apart!

Below, the trio’s casting breaks into stray sparks and dead gestures. Frost and iron flakes spill into the wind where the seal was, and the black vein collapses deeper into the spire’s wound.

The Hooded Figure

The Hooded Figure

After them. Do not lose the demon!

Zhurrem’s turn opens the distance, and the summit shrinks behind them in a shower of splinters. The Iron Spire’s pulse gives one weak stutter, then falters under the tearing cold.
