Adventure of Tuiwen 2

The basin breaks at last, and the shelter answers with a crimson flare. The wall runes do not dim, they blaze harder, as if the room has been lying to them from the start.

For one stunned breath, the seal is plain to see. It is not a ward of refuge. It is a binding, sunk deep in the wood and stone to hold something below the earth.

The floor gives a hard shudder. Sap-dark liquid streaks between the boards, and the ceiling groans overhead, dust spilling in jagged sheets.

Boards warp under her feet as Tuiwen scrambles for the failing way out, while Eldred backs toward the threshold, fear finally stripped bare on his face.

Tuiwen springs backward as the boards heave apart beneath her. Her boots leave the floor just as the break opens where she stood.

She lands hard on safer timber near the threshold, blade up, while a seam of sap-dark liquid surges through the gap she escaped.

Above them, rafters crack with a sharp report and a fresh spill of dust sheets down over the rune-lit walls.

Its smoky shape recoils from the shattered basin, no longer anchored, while the chamber behind Tuiwen sinks another breath lower.

Eldred shoves back toward the opening, eyes fixed on Tuiwen and the falling roof beyond her. The exit is clear, but only if she takes it now.

Tuiwen drives through the doorway as the chamber drops behind her, and the threshold catches the worst of the collapse. Broken boards slam down where she stood a breath ago.

The passage beyond is narrow, but open. She clears it in a single bound, the sap-dark flood and choking dust left inside the ruin.

Behind her, the basin light gutters out, and the Entity spills after the failed seal in a torn smear of smoke and panic.

A slab of roof timber crashes into the opening, then skids aside, revealing Tuiwen already beyond its reach.
