The violet pulse under the broken dais falters, then surges again through the cracks in the floor. Ares feels it in his bones, a hard tether pulling at him and at the Underworld itself.

Thanatos
The bond is still anchored. If it is not severed cleanly, the whole chamber may fall with it.

Sisyphus
You cannot kill a chain while your hand is still wrapped in it.
Sisyphus staggers at the edge of the broken dais, half-collapsed but grinning through the pain. The guards keep back, seeing the crackling glow widen beneath every step.

Ares
The core is the lock. The lock is here.

Thanatos
Ares, the tether runs through you now. Break the bond, not the stone.
The chamber groans. Dust spills from the ceiling. The violet light climbs Ares’s arms like living fire, and the pit yawns wider beneath the shattered platform.
All eyes turn to Ares. One strike, one cut, one act of will decides whether the Underworld lives whole, or tears free in pieces.
“I cut the tether from my arm”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +2)

Ares draws the tether tight across his forearm, then cuts through the glowing line with one clean motion. The violet fire snaps free and gutters into sparks that fall into the crack below.
The pull on his bones breaks at once. Dust slides off the dais, and the chamber’s groan drops to a lower, steadier rumble.

Ares
It is cut.

Thanatos
Good. Hold that stillness, Ares.
The sickly light under the floor dims to a thin pulse, no longer clawing at his arm. Thanatos lowers his hand, relief showing through the strain in his posture.

Sisyphus
No, wait, that binding was mine.
Sisyphus recoils as the violet glow abandons the edge of the dais and sinks into the fissures. The guards do not move, watching the king lose his grip on the ruin around them.
For one brief moment, the chamber is almost quiet. Only the settling stone answers Ares now, and the broken path to the abyss lies open in the dimness.

Thanatos
The bond is broken. At last, I can breathe.

Sisyphus
No. No, this was mine to keep.

Ares
Not anymore.
The violet glare gutters out, and the dais settles beneath their feet. The Guards on the Left and Right stand silent as the king's grip on Tartarus falters.
Ares and Thanatos left the shattered heart of Tartarus behind them, while the dark chamber sank into a heavy, uneasy stillness. Sisyphus remained amid the ruin, stripped of the power he had tried to claim. For one brief, hard-won moment, the underworld was no longer bound to his will.
