Sally gets the same sharp pain in her temples, and it is worse this time. The case is not just signaling, it is calling to her.

A hidden coil clicks alive. Tiny paper strips in the hardcase spit out from a collapsed spool, stamped with handler codes and a clean biological sequence. Not shipping data, not weapon parts, a trigger pattern.

The sedan’s dashboard lights flicker as the code keeps broadcasting, and the pulsing in the case syncs with Sally’s breathing. The setup clicks into place, cold and ugly. Mrs. Vale never needed to find Sally in person, the infrastructure was the weapon.

Sally lunges in, palm first, and red light blooms around her fingers as she crushes the coil flat inside the open case. The pulse stutters once, then dies under her grip.

The code strips spit out in a dead flutter, their printed handlers lines smearing against the damp pavement. The sharp pressure in Sally's temples cuts off at the same instant.

For one bare second, the wiring inside the hardcase opens like a map. Sally catches a clean relay mark and a routing stamp for Mrs. Vale's records division.
