Super Hero Rhapsody: 1975

Rain sheets down Front Street, turning the asphalt into a mirror. The drive is slick in Sally’s grip. Trailblazer squares up near the curb, body already hardening, while Psyche Delic drifts a step behind him, calm as a stage magician.

Psyche Delic lifts one hand, and the street seems to tilt and shimmer. Trailblazer blinks hard, briefly thrown off balance, his feet locking wider against the slick pavement.

A red indicator glows over the sealed security entrance behind Trailblazer. Beyond him waits the only way deeper into the Department, and with it the record that could name who Sally is.

Trailblazer lunges one step toward Sally, ready to take the drive by force if he has to. Psyche Delic watches Sally instead, leaving the opening to her.

Sally snaps into motion, and the world blurs around her. Trailblazer’s braced stance means nothing when she slips through the space he occupies, the drive clutched tight as she bursts past his shoulder into the rain.

Psyche Delic’s psychic shimmer catches on her wake, then scatters. He turns too late, one hand lifting in reflex as Sally streaks across the slick street toward the curbside lane.

Sally clears the entrance in a heartbeat. The red indicator keeps blinking over the sealed door behind her, now behind both heroes, while rain hisses off the pavement under her feet.

Trailblazer twists around to give chase, but Sally is already gone down Front Street, the drive secure in her grip and the Department entrance falling behind her.
