Kekona hauls herself through the splintered hatch and into the tavern common room. Floorboards creak around her paws. The Innkeeper hangs limp in her grip, and the last villagers freeze near the bar.
Above the hearth, a shadow shifts behind a hanging tapestry. It is not one of the trembling villagers. A slow, deliberate breath answers Kekona from the rafters.

The Hooded Figure
Enough. Put him down, beast.
The nearby villagers flinch at the voice, but none dare move. One clutches the bar, eyes wide, as if waiting for the hidden thing to strike first.

Kekona
Something is up there.
The tapestry parts. A hooded presence leans over the beam, one hand resting on the wood, the other holding a narrow blade that catches the firelight. The true fighting in the tavern has not ended. It has only changed height.

“Kekona stings the hooded figure.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Mauling, rolled +1)

Kekona snaps her tail upward in a tight, precise jab. The hooked sting punches through the hooded figure’s side with a wet, sudden motion, and the blade-hand jerks wide.

The Hooded Figure
Ah! No, wait, the cellar is, it is not yours!
The figure reels back on the beam, one boot skidding against old wood. Below, the two villagers recoil in unison, their pressed-together courage breaking at the sight.

A Second Villager
It came from the hatch, too, gods have mercy! It came from below!
The wounded hooded figure clutches the strike point, breath hitching under the hood. The narrow blade dips, and the tavern’s last wavering defense turns to raw panic.

A Fallen Villager
Run, then, run while it is still on the floor!
No one runs. They only stare at the broken hatch, now clearly a path the manticore owns, and the cellar ceases to feel like shelter.
“Kekona grabs holds of the two villagers while stinging the figure again.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Mauling, rolled +1)

Kekona lunges from the hatch and clamps one villager in each hand, fingers sinking into cloak and sleeve. At the same instant, her tail lashes back up and the sting hammers the hooded figure again, knocking the blade crooked.

The Hooded Figure
No, stop, please!
The beam shudders under the hooded figure’s weight. Their free hand scrabbles for balance, but the wound and the blow fold them inward, and the narrow blade slips from a ready grip to a useless hang.
The two villagers writhe in Kekona’s grasp, trapped before they can bolt for the door or the stair. Their panic turns into helpless, choking noise as they realize the escape routes are gone again.

A Second Villager
She has us, she has us all!

A Fallen Villager
The hatch is death. The cellar is death.
Above them, the rafters creak with a fresh, ugly silence. The last thought of a coordinated defense breaks apart in the tavern air, and every surviving breath belongs to fear.
The broken floor yawns open between them and the cellar, while Kekona’s tail remains cocked over the wounded figure, demanding the next move.
“Kekona begins devouring the villagers she holds while stinging the figure yet again.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Mauling, rolled +1)

Kekona yanks the two villagers together and drives both into her jaws. Cloak and sleeve tear as she bites down, and their struggling bodies jerk once, then slacken under her grip.
Her tail snaps back up at the rafters, and the stinger punches into the hooded figure again. They cry out and fold harder over the beam, blade arm slipping uselessly toward their chest.

The Hooded Figure
Please, enough!
Below, the tavern floor goes eerily still. The last hints of a barricade spirit drain from the room, leaving only the limp Innkeeper and the wrecked hatch under Kekona's weight.

A Fallen Villager
There is no defense left.

A Second Villager
The cellar was a trap all along.
Muffled movement and voices continue above, but no one below answers them now. The hooded figure hangs shaken on the beam, staring down at Kekona through the dark.
