Kekona's Story - Deadly Predator in The Village

The wagon gives way under Kekona’s bulk, its broken wheel skidding aside. Straw and apples spill across the mud as the villagers recoil toward the tavern steps, all but stampeded by her shadow.

He plants himself in the doorway, iron poker raised with both shaking hands. His face is white with fear, but he keeps his feet on the threshold.

One villager slips on the scattered apples and falls hard. Another tries to haul her up, eyes fixed on Kekona’s teeth, not on the ground.

The gap is open at last, wide enough for Kekona to press in deeper. Behind the innkeeper, the tavern door shudders, and the village’s last barrier suddenly looks fragile enough to break.

Kekona surges through the breach in one brutal bound. The poker clatters aside as the innkeeper’s back slams the tavern frame, and her jaws close on him before he can shout again.

He goes limp in her grip a heartbeat later, dragged down from the threshold as the doorway opens behind his falling body.

The second villager staggers backward into the dark entry, abandoning the fallen to the mud. Straw and apples kick under their heels as panic breaks the last line.

Inside, the tavern door starts to swing, then jerks halfway closed as hands from within seize it. The gap narrows, but the innkeeper is no longer there to hold it.

Kekona has the man, and the villagers have one desperate breath before the door can be barred or burst again.

Kekona lunges through the narrowing gap, shoulders-first, and the door shudders back on its hinges. Hands inside lose their grip as her bulk drives past the frame, dragging the half-closed slab wide enough for her to enter.

The second villager recoils deeper into the tavern, tripping over a bench leg. The fallen villager outside scrambles in the mud, staring at the open doorway as the last scrap of order breaks.

Inside, the door slams against Kekona’s shoulder instead of the bar, then bounces back. Splinters rain from the latch as the frame groans under the force.

The innkeeper’s blood smears the threshold behind her. A fresh cry rises from the common room, sharp with fear, as the villagers inside lose the chance to seal her out.
