Vaelira slips from the stone marker into the black seam of trees, the cache tight in her grip. Pip darts ahead on a narrow game trail, tail low, ears pricked. Behind them, branches whip and snap as the hunter keeps pace through the brush.
The note and the dark glass charm are real. So is the warning about the wards.
Pip veers left at a root web and vanishes under a bramble arch. Vaelira follows, feet skimming wet leaves, as the trail drops toward a slick ravine choked with fern and stone.
A shape crashes into the clearing behind them, fast enough to be more than a woodsman and quiet enough to be worse. The hunter does not shout. He only closes the distance.
Vaelira catches a glimpse through the moving dark, a familiar cut of cloak, a profile half-swallowed by shadow. Someone from her past. Someone who knows how to follow her.
Pip skids at the ravine’s edge, looking back once. Ahead lies a fallen log over black water, the fastest path out. Behind, the hunter forces the choice closer with every step. Vaelira now has the clue to the estate’s wards, and the man hunting her is trying to take it before she escapes.

Break the hunter’s line of sight
“Can I use the light-absorbing charm to vanish into the shadows?”
NO, AND WORSE (Likely, rolled 98)
Vaelira presses the glass charm against her palm, willing it to swallow the light and shroud her in shadow, but the artifact only pulses with a cold, rhythmic thrum that mirrors her own heartbeat. Instead of fading, the charm flares with a harsh, violet luminescence that clings to her skin and illuminates the surrounding trees like a beacon.

Dalen
There you are, little thief.

Vaelira
The charm is not a cloak, it is a lure.
“"Fuck fuck fuck...." Vae curses under her breath. Prior to all of this she would have gotten rid of the glass charm, but given everything they've learned.. who knows if this is important. Her nose twitches in annoyance and at the drop of a dime the elven woman turns on her heel to face the hunter. If there's one thing Pip knows about her, she does love a good fight when needed. Maybe this is a sign to blow off some steam from the emotional night. "Little thief?" She asks in an innocent voice as she pockets the precious items and trades them for her paired elven daggers. "I'm sorry, but if you were too drunk to let me take your virginity then that's on you baby...."”
SUCCESS (Great Melee Weapons, rolled -1)
Vaelira snaps around, the violet glow streaking off her blades as her hands bury the charm and note away. One dagger clears its sheath in the same motion, then the other, both points angling toward the trees.

Dalen
Still counting on charm and nerve, little thief?

Vaelira
You talk too much for someone trying to sneak up on me.
Pip darts back from the ravine lip, fur fluffed, keeping low to Vaelira’s heel. The charm’s light remains trapped in her grip, but it throws jagged flashes across her daggers and the fallen log behind her.

Dalen
Hand over the cache, and I let the fox run.
Vaelira plants her feet at the edge of the drop, blades steady. The hunter’s outline wavers between the trunks, and a deliberate footstep sounds from deeper in the woods, answering his approach.

Vaelira
Come closer, then.
“"Pip, don't let him touch those items." Vae commands as she tightens her grip on the daggers. Her eyes dart up into the trees for a brief second, scanning for anything she can use to her advantage before locking back with the hunter. "A handsome man like you into fox fur? Such a shame, you know fake fur is where it's at now, right?" The bold woman quips before using her agility to dash forward and push herself up over the fallen log to gain height and come slashing down at the figure”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +1)

Vaelira
Pip, don’t let him touch the cache.
Vaelira’s gaze flicks up through the branches, hunting for height, cover, anything useful, then snaps back to the hunter. She drives forward in a blur, boots striking the log as she vaults it.
Her daggers rise with her momentum, and she slashes down from the broken trunk’s crest.

Dalen
Bold little thief.
Pip darts wide below, keeping clear of the hunter’s reach, while the violet charm-light flashes off bark and blade.
Vaelira lands above the ravine lip in the hunter’s path, forcing him to look up toward her instead of the items below.
“"Little thief this, little thief that.... you don't know my name, do you?" Vae snaps at the stranger, while angling one of the daggers to catch the sunlight and shine straight into his eyes”
SUCCESS (Good Diplomacy, rolled +3)

Vaelira
Little thief this, little thief that. You do not know my name, do you?
Vaelira tilts the dagger’s polished edge toward the sun, and a hard flash knifes into the hunter’s eyes.

Dalen
No. But I know your blood.
He recoils a half-step, blinking against the glare. The ravening focus in his face fractures, and the low slash of the ravine is suddenly between him and the cache below.

Pip
Chitter.
Pip springs from the shadow of the log and steals the folded note clean from the ground, vanishing with it toward the roots.

Dalen
Clever. Too clever.
He squints upward, hand raised to shield his face, while the violet charm-light trembles across his boots instead of Vaelira’s outline.
