The tunnel narrows to a jagged throat of crystal and black stone. Violet light beats ahead like a living pulse, and the air bites with ozone.

Ares leads the way, blade low. Hades keeps one hand on the wall, reading the old stone. Thanatos follows the pulse, quiet and intent.

Thanatos

Thanatos

The rhythm is not random. It is waking.

Far above and behind them, heavy footfalls roll through the rock. Not one hunter, but many, spreading through the Underworld like a net.

Hades

Hades

Kronos is moving his Titans to hunt us. We keep to the fracture, and we do not let them turn us aside.

Thanatos

Thanatos

If Sisyphus's defiance weakened the seals, then every step we take matters. Whatever stirs below is tied to the same wound.

The violet pulse swells. The crystal ahead splits into a wider chamber, and the path drops toward a deeper dark that feels ancient, watchful, and very near.

✓ Quest Accepted

Reach the ancient source below the Underworld

Can we reach the source before the Titans cut off our path?

Ares

The fracture leads directly to the core. If we move now, we can beat them to the source.

Hades

Hades

The path is clear, Ares. The Titans are still navigating the upper tunnels, but they will not be for long.

I let Hades lead while I cover our rear

Ares falls in behind Hades, shield angled back toward the fracture, while the king of the Underworld takes the lead into the crystalline throat below.

Behind them, the tunnel mouth narrows with a grinding sigh, and the distant violet pulse throbs once through the stone.

Ares keeps his footing as the floor shudders, his rear guard stance turning the narrow passage into a choke point.

Hades slips ahead without looking back, shadows gathering low around his hands as if tasting the air for the Titans.

Thanatos

Thanatos

The path is still clear, but it will not stay that way for long.

A sharp tremor rolls up from below, dusting the crystal walls with grit, and the hidden corridor seems to breathe around them.

Far ahead, the fracture opens into a darker hollow, but from behind comes the scrape of pursuit, faint and closing.

Ares

Titans behind us. How many?

Hades

Hades

Enough to matter, but not enough to stop us. Keep moving.

Hades does not slow, but his shadow curls tighter around his heel as he answers, a quick signal that he has heard and understood.

Thanatos

Thanatos

They are testing the passage. If they commit, I will know it.

A low shiver runs through the crystal floor, and the sloped run ahead opens toward a darker throat below.

Behind them, the scrape grows sharper, then breaks into the sound of stone scattering as pursuit finds the narrow track.

Hades

Hades

Ares, hold the rear a little longer. The core is close now.

Are the Titan Hunters close enough to strike?

YES, BUT (Likely, rolled 63)

The Titan Hunters lunge from the shadows, their jagged blades whistling through the air to strike at Ares's exposed back. Ares pivots just in time, his shield catching the heavy impact with a deafening ring that echoes through the narrowing tunnel.

Ares drives forward, shield-first, and the nearest Titan Hunter skids back over the cracked stone. Its blade jerks wide, scraping sparks from the tunnel wall.

The second hunter hesitates at the force of the shove, and that moment breaks their line. Hades presses on without looking back, while dust rains from the ceiling.

Thanatos

Thanatos

Good. Keep them off our heels.

Ares follows through, and the hunters yield ground in a ragged retreat. Their violet-edged shadows lengthen across the floor, then thin as the tunnel opens ahead into a wider hollow.

The pulsing light ahead strengthens, beating through the stone like a buried heart. Beneath it, the floor slopes toward a jagged break where older rock shows through, black and raw.

Hades

Hades

There. The wound is below us. Stay sharp.

The Titan Hunters keep retreating, but the tunnel now narrows behind them, cutting off easy pursuit. The air trembles once more, and the path forward drops into the glow.

I descend into the glowing hollow

Ares steps off the broken lip and drops into the glowing hollow, boots striking black stone with a heavy thud. The violet light washes up over his armor as the tunnel behind him falls away.

Thanatos and Hades follow, their figures shrinking above the slope as dust shakes loose around the opening. The path below bends into darkness, but the pulse keeps beating through the rock.

Thanatos

Thanatos

There is the trail again. It runs deeper than the tunnel.

Hades

Hades

Good. We move while it is open.

A deep tremor rolls through the hollow, and the black stone under Ares answers with a low crack. The slope opens wider, as if the Underworld itself has split to make room for their descent.

Ares

Ares

The stone below is older than the tunnel.

Ahead, the violet glow gathers at a hidden seam in the dark, bright enough to outline a waiting arch of ancient rock. From beyond it comes another pulse, slow and hungry, and the gods angle toward it.

"Uncle, what lies beyond that arch?"

Ares

Uncle, what lies beyond that arch?

Hades

Hades

A prison wound, older than any corridor above it. If the Titans reached this depth, they did not come to flee. They came to open something.

Thanatos

Thanatos

I feel chains in the stone, and rage beneath them. Not fresh rage, old rage, buried so long it has learned to sleep.

Hades

Hades

The pulse we followed is not a lure. It is a heartbeat from below, pressing against a lock that should never have been found.

Ares braces on the black slope as the earth gives another hard shudder. Pebbles skitter past his boots, and the violet glow thins into a cold seam around the arch.

Thanatos

Thanatos

Your question is answered. Now we must decide whether to enter together, or seal it before it wakes fully.

I ask Hades and Thanatos for advice on what to do next.

Ares

What do you think we should do, seal it or go in together?

Thanatos

Thanatos

Together, if we can. A prison wound is never kind to those who study it alone.

Hades

Hades

I agree. If we leave it untested, we leave the realm guessing. If we enter, we do so with purpose, not haste.

Thanatos

Thanatos

The old rage below does not feel awake yet. It feels aware. That is worse, in some ways.

Hades

Hades

And if the seal is failing, we cannot afford hesitation. We go down prepared, or we bind the arch here and now.

The two gods exchange one brief look, a silent judgment passed between them. The violet seam gutters weaker, and dust trickles from the black stone around the arch.

Thanatos

Thanatos

Ares, stay between us. If the way opens, you will see it first. If it closes, you will know before the rest of us do.

Ares steps through first, and the arch takes him with a cold shiver of stone and old power. Hades and Thanatos follow close behind, their shadows folding into the passage as the violet seam gutters overhead.

The slope drops into a crystalline throat below the arch. Dust rains from the cracked black stone, and the deep tremor answers each footfall with a low, living pulse.

Hades

Hades

Good. The seal holds for the moment, but it is not resting. It is listening.

Thanatos

Thanatos

And there. Do you feel it? The pulse is no longer above us. It is beneath our feet.

Ares

Ares

The floor here is older than the arch.

Ares moves with them into the narrow chamber below, and the stone answers by opening out around a jagged, ancient basin. At its heart, the hidden source waits, marked by a wound of dark light.

Thanatos stills, looking down into the basin, while Hades squares his shoulders at the edge of it. The way behind them narrows with a grinding sigh, and the chamber settles into a tense hush.
