Ares and the King of Lies

The doors give way under Ares's push, and the throne room erupts in violet glare. Cold stings his skin. Shadow-chains pin Hades to the throne, while Sisyphus stands below it, arm raised as he goads the Titans.

Three Titans loom in the violet wash, their hands sunk into the air around Hades as if drawing out his power by force. The light pulses brighter with each pull, and the room shudders with it.

The nearest Titan turns toward Ares, violet light spilling over its face as the stolen power gathers between its hands. Hades strains once against the dark bonds, and the throne room feels one heartbeat from breaking.

Ares lunges through the violet glare, past Sisyphus, straight at the shadow-chains biting into Hades.

His reach finds the dark links at the throne, and the nearest binding snaps under his strike, the broken chain recoiling in a hiss of cold shadow.

The throne shudders as one clasp falls free, and Hades's shoulders lift with a sharp breath, though the violet siphon still churns in the air.

The Titans turn at once, stolen power pooling in their hands, while the cold room tightens around the exposed throne.

The three Titans cease their siphoning, their hands glowing with concentrated violet energy as they pivot in perfect unison to face Ares, preparing to unleash a devastating strike.

Ares throws himself in front of Hades as the violet blast breaks loose. The flare slams into his shield and armor, bursting sideways in a wash of light that skitters across the floor instead of striking the king.

Hades stays behind him, still trapped where the shadow-chains pin him, but the nearest chain goes slack as the strike is turned aside. One broken link drops smoking to the stones.

The cost hits at once. The impact drives Ares back a half-step, and a crack of violet heat crawls over his forearm beneath the shield.

The Titans stagger their hands, the siphoned light flickering between them. For the first time, Hades is no longer fully pinned by their pull, and the throne room’s shadows jerk unevenly across the floor.

The air keeps vibrating with spellfire, and the next wave is already gathering in their glowing palms.

The shadow-chains binding Hades pulse with a sickly, rhythmic dimming, their grip on the King of the Underworld visibly fraying as the Titans struggle to maintain the connection.

Before Ares can take a single step, the three Titans lunge with unnatural speed, their massive hands closing around his throat and arms like iron vices. The violet energy from the central pillar surges, binding Ares in the same shadow-chains that held his uncle, pinning him helplessly against the cold stone floor.

Ares twists once, then again, and the smoky chains crack apart under his strength. The Titans lose their grip as he tears free, slamming a boot into the stone to drive himself upright.

The violet glare floods the chamber, throwing hard shadows across the throne as the siphon trembles. Hades remains bound in place, but the hold on Ares is gone.

Titan One reaches for Ares again, but Ares has room now, and the nearest chain snaps back uselessly into the blaze of the pillar.

Hades pulls hard against his remaining bonds, the shadow-chains flickering thinner for a heartbeat. The central pillar still burns violet, waiting for the next blow.

Ares drives the blade into the central pillar. Violet fire flares, then splits with a sharp crack that shakes the whole chamber.

The siphon gutters at once. Shadow-chains lash loose from Hades, and the king’s arms jerk free as the binding power drains away.

The three Titans stagger back from the blast, their glow stuttering. The throne room darkens by degrees as the pillar’s blinding pulse thins.

Hades drops one hand to the throne arm and steadies himself, no longer pinned. The last of the shadow-chains crumble into smoke around his shoulders.
