Knight's End glows ahead of them, purple neon humming against wet brick and empty asphalt. Thadeus keeps the car tucked in the shadows, while Elizabeth watches the service entrance like it owes her answers.

Thadeus Jovanović

The lot is too quiet for a place this busy.

Donnie Ramirez is real, which means someone real is using him. We just need the right door.

Her gaze shifts to the side alley, where a guarded figure stands near the service door, half hidden by the neon spill. Not an attack, just a warning sign with a human face.

Marla Brewer

Marla Brewer

I can confirm the pattern on the receipts again, if you want. Donnie's club is the hinge. Whoever is behind this is working through him.

Elias leans forward between the seats, uneasy but focused, eyes tracking the entrance and the figure by it. The club's front is a show, but the back door looks like the real conversation.

Elias

Elias

If that guard knows us, or knows your face, we need to learn it before we walk in. Donnie may be the name on the door, but he is not the whole answer.

Thadeus and Elizabeth sit with the engine idling, the neon strobes cutting across the windshield. The path is clear enough to read, enter through the front, try the service side, or wait and watch one more beat.

“Thadeus examines the service door and the guard watching it. "We should avoid as much confrontation as possible. I think it would be wiser to enter in the front." Thadeus drives into a parking spot near the front doors and shuts off the car. He and Elizabeth exit the vehicle. Thadeus leans in the rear windows and looks at Marla, "You and Elias stay in the car for now. I'll give you a ring if we need additional help, just watch if anyone suspicious leaves after Elizabeth and I get inside." Elias and Marla nod in agreement.”

Thadeus takes the front row of spaces, easing the car nose-in beside the lit entrance. The engine dies, and the sudden quiet makes the music from inside the club feel sharper.

We should avoid as much confrontation as possible. I think it would be wiser to enter through the front.

Elizabeth glances once toward the service door, then turns with him and gets out. Their footsteps land on wet pavement in step with each other.

Thadeus leans back to the rear windows, and Marla lowers her phone to listen. Elias has already gone still, watching the lot through the glass.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

You two stay in the car for now. I’ll ring if we need help, just keep an eye out for anyone suspicious leaving after we go in.

Marla Brewer

Marla Brewer

Got it. I’ll watch the exits.

Elias

Elias

Yeah. We’ll stay put.

Marla nods once, Elias follows with a quick, tense nod, and the two of them settle back into the car as Thadeus and Elizabeth angle toward the bright front doors.

“Before entering the front doors of the building takes hold of Peacebringer and closes his eyes. Elizabeth looks at Thadeus and gasps as she sees Peacebringer's form change into a fountain pen, dimly glowing blue. Thadeus opens his eyes, and puts Peacebringer in his pocket. He forgot Elizabeth has never seen his new control over this weapons physical form, until now anyway.”

At the edge of the neon wash, Thadeus closes his hand around Peacebringer and shuts his eyes. The sword shrinks with a soft, impossible glimmer, folding itself into a fountain pen that still hums faint blue in his palm.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory

Oh.

Elizabeth’s breath catches, her stare fixed on the pen as if it has changed the shape of the night with it. Thadeus opens his eyes and slips it into his pocket.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

She has not seen this before.

The tiny glow dies behind the fabric, but the movement draws a little too much attention from the curb. A guard by the entrance shifts his weight and looks their way.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory

That was new.

The club’s front doors stay closed, the purple light steady over the lot, while the guard keeps watching from under the awning.

“Thadeus and Elizabeth walk up to entrance and approach the bouncer in front of glass doors. Thadeus smiles pleasantly at the guard "My fiancé and I were ask to see the owner, may we come in?" The bouncers studies Thadeus and Elizabeth carefully, grunts, and open the door for them. Thadeus nods his head, and turns to Elizabeth, "Ladies first". Elizabeth feels her face flushing again, then calms herself, turning back to Thadeus, "Not the time for that". Thadeus chuckles to himself, then follows behind her.”

Thadeus and Elizabeth cross the lot together, purple light sliding over the hood of the car and the glass doors ahead. The guard watches them come, then steps aside as Thadeus gives him a calm smile and asks to see the owner.

The guard studies both of them for a beat, then grunts and pulls the door open. Warm club light spills across the pavement, cutting through the neon wash.

Ladies first.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory

Not the time for that.

Elizabeth’s cheeks color, then she smooths it away and goes in ahead of him. Thadeus follows, the door easing shut behind them.

From the curb, Marla and Elias remain in the parked car, watching the entrance. The guard’s attention lingers on the pair as the club swallows them whole.

“Thadeus and Elizabeth walk down the hallway, dimly light, with all of the decorations you'd think to see in a medieval themed dance club. Metal shields and large claymore swords are pinned to the walls in the hallway. As they walk further in, the hallway opens to a larger room. A dance floor is at the center, currently unoccupied. In the corner is the staging area for a DJ to set up their music equipment, also quiet. At the far end of the room, Thadeus sees a door cracked open, with a soft-white light coming from underneath the door. Thadeus points this out to Elizabeth and they walk towards it, sensing no one is currently following them.”

The corridor narrows around them, all faux-medieval stone and ironwork, then opens into a hush of dim velvet space. Thadeus and Elizabeth slow at the edge of the empty floor, and he spots a cracked door at the far end, white light leaking beneath it.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

The room is quiet. The light is coming from there.

Thadeus points, and they cross the room without drawing attention. No one steps in to stop them, and the club’s next door waits ajar as they reach it.

“Thadeus walks up to the door and sees a placard near the top of the door. It has "Manager's office" plastered on it. He opens the door, he and Elizabeth walk into fairly large room with a desk near its center at the back. There are several purple leather couches up against all the walls of the room, along with a CCTV camera at each of the four corners of the room. Sitting at the desk is a short, sticky man in a black suit, stained white shirt and a crooked red tie. The gentleman introduces himself as Vinnie, and asks Thadeus and Elizabeth to please take a seat, pointing to an ornate table with finely crafted wooden chairs with purple plush seating”

Thadeus and Elizabeth reach the door, the placard reading Manager's Office. He pushes inside, and the room opens around them in purple leather and polished wood.

Vinnie

Vinnie

Please, take a seat.

At the center desk sits a short, sticky man in a black suit, white shirt stained at the front, crooked red tie hanging loose. He gestures to the ornate table and its plush chairs while the CCTV lenses watch from every corner.

“Thadeus and Elizabeth comply with the manager and each sit in the wooden chairs. Thadeus looks over to Vinnie, "Thank you for the invitation. I'm not exactly a celebrity, so why did you want to see me?"”

SUCCESS (Superb Diplomacy, rolled -1)

Thadeus lowers into the wooden chair with Elizabeth beside him, and the office settles around their pause. The desk lamp throws a warm pool over Vinnie’s stained shirt and the purple leather beyond, while the cameras keep their silent stare.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

Thank you for the invitation. I am not exactly a celebrity, so why did you want to see me?

Vinnie

Vinnie

Because people talk when they think they are choosing the room, not being led into it. You and your lady friend arrived with a little more weight than most.

Vinnie folds his hands on the desk and glances once toward the monitors, as if checking who is listening. Elizabeth stays still, but her attention sharpens on him.

Vinnie

Vinnie

I wanted a calm conversation before the floor downstairs gets noisy. If you are here for paperwork, favors, or names, say so cleanly.

The office feels smaller now, not hostile, just measured. Vinnie waits, inviting an answer while the club hums faintly through the walls.

“Thadeus is about to speak when he hears an audible click behind him. Looking behind, he sees two more guards in black suits standing in front of door, firearms poking from under their sport coats. Thadeus turns back to Vinnie, "This seems like more than a calm conversation. Any reason you felt like locking us in here?"”

A hard click snaps from the door behind him. Thadeus turns, and the room narrows around two black-suited guards blocking the exit, firearms tucked under their coats.

This seems like more than a calm conversation. Any reason you felt like locking us in here?

Vinnie

Vinnie

Because I wanted you talking to me before anybody downstairs decided to start guessing. Doors can stay closed for a minute.

Vinnie does not rise. He tips his chin toward the guards, then back to Thadeus, keeping his voice level while Elizabeth’s posture tightens beside him.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory

You have a strange way of asking for calm.

Vinnie

Vinnie

I have a business way. Surprise is expensive here.

The guards hold their ground at the door, and the office settles into a locked, waiting silence. Vinnie folds his hands again, clearly expecting the next move.

“Thadeus, focusing on avoid a physical altercation, relaxes. "I can appreciate the need to protect yourself." Vinnie grins, the smile giving Thadeus a sense of unease. Thadeus continues, "So Vinnie, is there more to your business than running a dance club?"”

SUCCESS (Superb Diplomacy, rolled +0)

Thadeus lets the silence loosen first, and Vinnie’s grin gives just enough to say he heard him.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

I can appreciate the need to protect yourself.

The smile on Vinnie’s face stays put, but it sharpens the room. Elizabeth’s eyes narrow at the desk.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

So, Vinnie, is there more to your business than running a dance club?

Vinnie

Vinnie

Depends what you call business. Club receipts, private rooms, names that never hit the books, that all counts where I stand.

He slides a folder halfway across the desk. A broken-star ring stamp flashes on the corner before his hand covers it again.

Vinnie

Vinnie

If you came for the clean version, you already know this place does not have one.

“Thadeus reaches for the folder. In it is pages of the Knight's End's bookkeeping, nothing Thadeus can really make sense. What he can make sense of in the folder, is a list of names of clients. The title of this ledger says Special Projects, and Thadeus is surprised to see one particular name there. It's Elias. Thadeus, anger sneaking on his face and rising in his voice, "What is this about?" pointing to his friend's name on the ledger?”

Thadeus hooks the folder with two fingers and draws it into his side of the desk. Vinnie does not stop him.

Inside are cramped columns of numbers, rooms, and dates, but one tabbed page stands out, a ledger titled Special Projects.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

Elias.

The name sits in the client list like a clean cut through the page. Thadeus’s jaw tightens, and the room seems to go still around that single line.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

What is this about?

Vinnie

Vinnie

It is about jobs that do not go on the public side of the books. Private bookings, favors, names, little arrangements people pay to keep tidy.

Elizabeth leans in from Thadeus’s side, her focus hard on the ledger, while Vinnie keeps one hand near the folder and the other relaxed, as if the answer is ordinary.

Get past the guards at the office door

“Thadeus, sensing the guards at the door shift closer to him and Elizabeth, calms himself. He looks back to Vinnie, "You'll have to explain that a bit better." Vinnie takes the folder back and reviews it. He looks back to Thadeus, "You see, Elias had a contract with us, supplying us with our electronics and surveillance equipment, as I'm sure you noticed." Thadeus nods. Vinnie continues, "We've determined that he has been overcharging us for some time, and we're not going to let that slide. As we've been talking, he and that other friend of yours are now in our custody." Vinnie turns around the monitor at his desk, showing surveillance footage ofElias and Marla being dragged out of the car, and pulled into the service entrance to the club.”

Thadeus reins himself in, and the office stops feeling like a trap for one breath. He looks straight at Vinnie and asks for the explanation, plain and unhurried.

Vinnie

Vinnie

Elias had a contract with us, electronics and surveillance supply. He started charging above the agreed rate, for a long time.

Vinnie takes the folder back and flips to the marked pages, his tone still businesslike. Thadeus gives a small nod, letting him keep the floor.

Vinnie

Vinnie

We are not letting that slide. While we have been talking, Elias and your friend are in custody.

Vinnie turns his monitor around. On the screen, Elias and Marla are hauled from the car and pushed through the service entrance under club lighting.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory

Marla too. This just changed shape.

Elizabeth stiffens beside Thadeus, her attention snapping from the ledger to the footage. The closed office now carries a new weight, as if the door and the screen are making the same point.
