Marla Brewer
Thadeus, I found Elias. Library security caught him on camera going in, and two guys in street clothes followed him inside right after.
The truck rolls to the curb beside a stone-faced downtown library. Marla’s voice crackles over the speakerphone while Thadeus and Elizabeth push through the quiet front doors.
Inside, the air smells like old paper and wax. Tall shelves cut the room into narrow sightlines, and the reference desk sits ahead like a checkpoint.

Thadeus Jovanović
Elias came here, and someone followed him.
Two men in nondescript street clothes linger near the desk, not reading, just watching the aisles. One keeps a hand near his pocket while the other scans the stacks for movement.

Elizabeth Bathory
That is him. Thadeus, if Elias is still inside, we move now.
Marla’s footage, the watchers, and the library’s hushed maze all point the same way, the hidden shipment trail is still active, and Elias is somewhere deeper in it.
“Thadeus whispers to Elizabeth to split up, trying to avoid interacting with the two suspicious men. Elizabeth walks over to a nearby bookshelf and opens a nonfiction book, opening it and pretending to read it while monitoring the two men. Thadeus quickly and quietly walks near the back of the library, scanning the aisles for any sign of Elias.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +3)

Thadeus slips off the main line of sight, letting the shelves swallow him as he moves along the back rows.
Elizabeth peels away to a nearby shelf, opens a nonfiction book, and keeps her eyes moving over the pages while watching the two men over the top edge.
Thadeus scans past biographies, atlases, and return bins, then catches a figure in a darker aisle, half-hidden and moving fast.

Thadeus Jovanović
Elias.
The man is not alone. A second shape trails him, and a plastic library cart stands abandoned between them like a misplaced barricade.
Thadeus reaches the end of the stack in time to see Elias duck through a side opening marked STAFF ONLY, leaving the pursuers hesitating in the aisle.
From the front, one of the street-clothes men straightens and starts toward the back, while Elizabeth keeps reading, still hidden in plain sight.
“As a rouse, Elizabeth drops the book she's holding, causing an audible bang as the book hits the hardwood floor, surprising the first suspicious man. Elizabeth looks over to the man, attempting to seduce him. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to startle you. Could you pick that up for me?" Thadeus thinks to himself, "I'll have to talk with her about that later." The rouse seems to work, causing the man to walk towards Elizabeth as she continues to look at him. Thadeus quickly moves past the distracted man and follows Elias into the Staff only room.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -2)
The book hits hard enough to snap both watchers’ attention. One man flinches, turning toward Elizabeth’s apology while Thadeus slips past the blind edge of the shelf.

Elizabeth Bathory
I am so sorry, I did not mean to startle you. Could you pick that up for me?
The first man steps in, distracted, and Elizabeth keeps her gaze on him like a trap held open. Thadeus cuts into the STAFF ONLY doorway behind the shelf and catches the scent of old paper and damp carpet.

Thadeus Jovanović
I'll have to talk with her about that later.
Beyond the door, the corridor narrows between boxed returns and a squeaking service cart. Elias is ahead, moving fast, his shoulders already bent toward another turn.
Thadeus reaches the threshold in time to see Elias disappear deeper into the back route. The floorboards answer the dropped book with a dull echo, and somewhere behind him, the watcher in street clothes is still turning toward Elizabeth.
“Thinking he's close, Thadeus continues to pursue Elias down the staff only hallway. As he turns a corner, the other street clothed man takes a swing at Thadeus, which he reflexively steps past, pulling out Peacebringer, concentrating to change it into a wooden sword form, the weapon glowing blue.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Thadeus follows the service corridor as it tightens around him, the old carpet muffling his steps. Elias’s hurried shape cuts ahead at the next bend, and the hallway feels one turn away from either capture or loss.
A second man swings out from the side passage, aiming a fast punch for Thadeus’s head. Thadeus slips past the arc instead of taking it, the blow cutting only air and shelving paper.

Thadeus Jovanović
The hallway is tighter than it looked.
Without breaking stride, Thadeus pulls Peacebringer free and concentrates. The weapon answers with a blue glow, flattening into a wooden sword in his grip.
The attacker recoils at the sudden light, and the corridor opens for a breath. Ahead, Elias vanishes around another corner, still moving.
The street-clothes man squares up in the narrow aisle, now wary and ready to block, while Thadeus stands between him and the route Elias took.
“The street clothes man reaches into his pocket, presumably for a firearm. Before he can, Thadeus quickly strikes the man in the chest, causing him to double over, dropping the handgun in his pocket. Thadeus picks it up and pockets it. After another minute, Thadeus finally catches up to his friend, Elias, near a fire exit. Elias attempts to open it, but Thadeus blocks it, saying, "Whoa, slow down. You've had Elizabeth, Marla and I all worried about. We need to talk"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled -1)

Thadeus closes the distance in one hard step and drives his fist into the watcher’s chest. The man folds with a sharp wheeze, his shoulder dipping as a handgun slips free and clatters against the carpet.
Thadeus snatches the dropped pistol before the man can recover, then pockets it in one motion. The watcher staggers back, coughing, now empty-handed and glaring down the corridor.
Ahead, Elias reaches the fire exit and yanks at the bar. Thadeus catches up at the door, plants himself in front of it, and blocks the way out.

Thadeus Jovanović
Whoa, slow down. You've had Elizabeth, Marla and I all worried about. We need to talk.
Elias freezes with one hand still on the push bar, breathing fast. Behind Thadeus, the wounded watcher straightens again in the corridor, rubbing his chest and staring at the gun now gone from reach.

Elias
Not here. You need to move.

“Thadeus agrees, "Yes, we need to get out of here fast, but you're coming with us, right?" Elias looks around, then resigns himself, "Yes, of course I'm going with you." Thadeus gives a quick smile, "Good, because we've been driving your truck." Elias follows, looking a little frustrated, "What do you mean you used my truck? You better not have damaged it all." Thadeus chuckles, "Define 'damaged'." Elias's shoulder drops, afraid of what Thadeus is going to show him.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Diplomacy, rolled +2)

Thadeus Jovanović
Yes, we need to get out of here fast, but you're coming with us, right?

Elias
Elias looks past Thadeus, then gives a tight nod. He says yes, he is going with them.

Thadeus Jovanović
Good. Because we've been driving your truck.

Elias
What do you mean, you used my truck? You better not have damaged it all.

Thadeus Jovanović
Define damaged.

Elias
Elias’s shoulders drop a little, like he does not want the answer. He glances toward the corridor, then back at Thadeus.

Elias
I am afraid to ask, but I am asking anyway. Did you at least bring it back in one piece?

Get Elias past his pursuers
“Thadeus and Elias make it out of the Staff Only area and back in the main lobby of the library, to see a litany of law enforcement officers. Two of them are walking one of the suspicious street clothed men out of the library and to a police vehicle. Near the entrance, Thadeus sees Elizabeth and runs to her, "You called the police?" Elizabeth laughs, "Nope. Apparently they were here a different reason, but that idiot decided to try running from them when they tried speaking with him, and then he took a swing at an officer. I didn't have to do anything." Thadeus is in disbelief, "Well, okay then. I found Elias, obviously. Let's get out of here." Elizabeth looks over at Elias, a little disapproving, "I'm glad you're safe. We've got catching up to do."”

Thadeus and Elias step out into the lobby and find uniforms, radios, and a half-formed police ring near the entrance. One of the street-clothed men is being marched toward a patrol car, while the other stays under an officer’s grip by the doors.

Thadeus Jovanović
You called the police?

Elizabeth Bathory
Nope. They were here for something else, but that idiot swung at an officer and made it their business.

Thadeus Jovanović
Well, okay then. I found Elias. Let’s get out of here.

Elizabeth Bathory
I’m glad you’re safe. We’ve got catching up to do.
“Thadeus, Elias and Elizabeth all pile into the truck, with Elias driving. They quickly get past the police vehicles and leave the parking lot. Elias is finally safe from his pursuers.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +0)

Thadeus steers Elias and Elizabeth through the lobby chaos and out the side doors before the officers can sort the scene. Outside, the truck waits under the gray Detroit sky, and Elias takes the wheel with both hands tight and ready.

Thadeus Jovanović
Get in. Elias, drive.
Elizabeth slides into the cab beside Thadeus, still watching the glass doors as they shut behind her. Elias cranks the truck and pulls it forward, easing past the curb where the police vehicles sit angled in the lot.
A patrol car starts to roll, but Elias threads the truck around it cleanly. Thadeus keeps his eyes on the mirrors while Elizabeth glances back once, then forward again, as the library falls away behind them.
The lot opens onto the street, and Elias merges without hesitation. The patrol lights shrink in the rear window, boxed in by morning traffic and the library's brick facade.

Elias
I am gone. Keep them off us a second longer.
The truck clears the last of the police line and gains the road. Elias is finally out of reach, with the watchers left behind at the library and no clear way to follow them into the crowd.
