Elias’s truck rolls into the driveway and settles with a tired sigh. The engine ticks as it cools in the suburban quiet.

On the porch, Marla stops pacing the second she sees Elias. Relief hits her all at once, and she rushes down the steps.

Marla wraps Elias in a tight hug. He freezes for a beat, then folds into it, letting the moment land.

Thadeus and Elizabeth share a look, wordless and worn out, then head inside together while Marla and Elias drift toward the office.

Upstairs, Thadeus’s bedroom is dim and still. Elizabeth closes the door behind them, and the house noise drops away.

For a moment, it is just the two of them, breathing easier. Down the hall, Marla’s voice rises softly from the office, and the quiet feels almost gentle.

Speak with Elias about Trevor

“Elizabeth and Thadeus slide into bed, her head resting on Thadeus's chest. Thadeus stares off into the ceiling, the fan above humming softly. Elizabeth and Thadeus enjoy the silence in the room, as they slowly drift off to sleep.”

Thadeus and Elizabeth slip under the blankets. Her head finds his chest, the fan keeps humming, and the room finally goes still.

Elizabeth Bathory

For a few breaths, this feels safe enough to keep.

Then Thadeus’s eyes stay on the ceiling, and the quiet makes room for the thought that home is only borrowed peace, held together by one more closed door.

“Thadeus opens his eyes, discovering Elizabeth is no longer in the room with him. He gets out of bed and walks toward the bathroom, peeking his head to see her in shower, not sensing his presence. He gently closes the bathroom door.”

Thadeus opens his eyes to a colder strip of bed beside him. The room is dim, the fan turning above, and Elizabeth is gone.

He rises quietly, the mattress barely shifting, and pads toward the bathroom with the old house holding its breath around him.

He leans in and sees Elizabeth under the shower spray, one hand braced on the tile, her hair darkened and her attention elsewhere.

Thadeus pauses at the threshold, then eases the bathroom door shut again, keeping the sound soft.

You are up early.

Elizabeth Bathory

Elizabeth Bathory

At least he is here. That is enough for the moment.

Her voice drifts through the door with the water, small and warm, while downstairs the house stays quiet enough to feel borrowed.

“Thadeus heads downstairs to meet with Elias and Marla. Marla is studying news articles related to a string of robberies involving a team of masked gunmen. Marla finds that the gunmen are all wearing black tactical gear, and a small emblem of the broken star is imprinted on the back of the body armor.”

SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +4)

Thadeus slips downstairs in silence, the hallway cool under his feet. The office door stands open just enough to show Marla hunched over her phone, while Elias sits nearby with a guarded, tired posture.

Marla barely looks up at first, then her screen flashes a headline cluster about masked gunmen and overnight robberies across Detroit. She swivels the phone toward Thadeus, eyebrows drawing tight.

Marla Brewer

These guys keep hitting different places, but the gear is the same. Black tactical stuff, same style, same timing.

She zooms in on a grainy photo, and a broken star imprint shows on the back of the body armor. Elias straightens at that, his face going pale in a way that changes the whole room.

Elias

Elias

That mark again.

Thadeus catches the detail before anyone can bury it, and the house suddenly feels less like shelter and more like a place with a target painted on it.

Marla Brewer

If that emblem is real, then they are not just chasing papers anymore. They are moving openly.

“Thadeus turns to Elias, Thadeus's face with a stoic demeanor, "We know why you've been working with SoD. No need to deny it, Elias." Elias initially finds himself getting worked up, but then slouches back into his chair. "Can you blame me? You didn't get to see your own brother die in front of you, then miraculously reappear, then dissolve from our reality! What was I supposed to do?" Elias begins weeping, causing Marla to drop what she's doing to console him. Thadeus remains stoic, observing Elias.”

We know why you have been working with Stars of Divinity. No need to deny it, Elias.

Elias bristles at first, jaw tight and hands clenched on his knees. Then the fight drains out of him, and he sinks back into the chair like the weight finally catches up.

Elias

Elias

Can you blame me? You did not watch your own brother die in front of you, then come back, then dissolve out of our reality. What was I supposed to do?

His voice cracks. Marla sets her phone down and moves in fast, one hand at his shoulder, the other bracing the edge of the desk as she folds herself into the moment with him.

Elias breaks, wiping at his face with the heel of his hand while Marla murmurs to him beside the monitor glow. Thadeus stays where he is, stoic and still, letting the truth land without pressing harder.

Hey. Breathe. You do not have to carry that all by yourself right now.

“Thadeus presses Elias further, "I might not have known Trevor, but he couldn't have wanted you to go down this path. Elias stammers through his tears, "They...Donny...Donny said he could Trevor back, and that I would reunite with him." Thadeus shakes his head, "Elias, it wouldn't be your brother they would bring back. He would be a mindless zombie, not your Trevor." Elias shoots up from his chair and gets face to face with Thadeus, startling Marla. "You're lying, Thadeus! Why would you want to take this away from me?"”

Elias

You are lying, Thadeus. Why would you want to take this away from me?

Elias jerks upright so fast his chair legs scrape the floor, and he is suddenly in Thadeus's space, red-eyed and shaking. Marla flinches back from the desk, one hand lifting as if to catch the moment before it tips over.

The office goes very still except for Elias's rough breathing and the soft murmur of the house above them. Thadeus holds his ground, and the answer hangs there between them, ugly and plain.

Speak with Elias about Trevor

New Gift: Empathetic Listener

“Thadeus pushes Elias back away from him, then points to living room. "Damn it Elias, you need to collect yourself. Elizabeth and I found the artifacts your brother left you. The Holy Cross, the Holy Water, why do you think he left those for you?" Elias looks away, refusing to hear Thadeus. "You're doing Trevor a disservice, carrying yourself this way." This sets Elias off, who takes Thadeus to ground. As Elias lifts his fist to strike a now prone Thadeus, Marla scrambles behind Elias and pulls him away from Thadeus. "How dare you tell me what Trevor would think, Thadeus!" Elias shouts, "I need some air." Elias runs out the front door of Thadeus's house, sitting on the front steps, tears pouring from his face.”

Thadeus shoves Elias back and points him toward the living room, forcing space between them. The motion lands cleanly, more command than strike, and Elias stumbles into the hallway glare with his anger still burning.

Damn it, Elias, collect yourself. Elizabeth and I found the artifacts your brother left you. The Holy Cross, the holy water. Why do you think he left those for you?

Elias looks away instead of answering, jaw tight and shoulders quivering. Thadeus keeps his hand up between them, steady and hard to move, while Marla watches from the desk with fear and resolve mixed together.

Thadeus Jovanović

Thadeus Jovanović

You are doing Trevor a disservice carrying yourself like this.

That hits wrong. Elias lunges low, drives Thadeus to the floor, and the office air snaps with the impact. Papers skid, the chair rattles, and Marla throws herself in behind Elias to haul him back before the fist can fall.

Elias

Elias

How dare you tell me what Trevor would think, Thadeus! I need some air!

Elias jerks free and bolts for the front door. A second later the deadbolt snaps open, the house stays standing, and the cold outside light spills across the entry as he drops onto the front steps, crying with his face in his hands.

“Hearing the commotion, Elizabeth races downstairs, her hair still wet from the shower, and pulls Thadeus to his feet, asking Thadeus "What happened?" Thadeus shares the confrontation with him and Elias regarding Trevor. Elizabeth frowns, "You could've had a little more tact with him. You know he's hurting." Thadeus nods, but pushes back, "He needed to know the truth, that Donny and the SoD isn't behaving with altruism." Meanwhile, Marla is sitting on the front steps with Elias, attempting to calm and comfort him.”

Elizabeth comes down fast, damp hair clinging to her shoulders, and catches Thadeus under the arm before he can fully gather himself. She hauls him upright and looks him over once, all sharp concern, all business.

What happened?

Thadeus answers her plainly, giving her the shape of it, Elias, Trevor, the way the argument broke open when the names hit too hard. Elizabeth listens without interrupting, her mouth tightening at the edges.

He needed to know the truth, that Donny and the Stars of Divinity are not behaving with altruism.

Elizabeth holds his gaze a beat, then lets the criticism soften instead of sharpen. Her wet sleeve brushes his arm as the room eases back from the edge.

Outside, Marla stays with Elias on the front steps, speaking low until his shoulders stop shaking quite so hard. The house stays quiet, but the calm now feels borrowed, thin enough to see through.

“Elias and Marla walk back inside to see Elizabeth and Thadeus standing together. Elias walks over, unexpectedly, to Elizabeth, and hugs her, Elizabeth's arms still locked to her sides, unable to reciprocate the embrace. She looks over to Thadeus, whispering, "I thought Elias didn't like me." Elias seemingly didn't hear her, while Thadeus relaxes and gives a chuckle, "I'd say he's happier with you than me right now."”

Elias comes back in with Marla a step behind him, rubbing at his face as if he is trying to gather himself. He stops short when he sees Elizabeth, then crosses the room and folds into her in a sudden, awkward hug.
