Marla’s tires scream on wet asphalt as the black sedan slides up beside them. The city smears into neon ribbons. In the back seat, the recovered ledger thumps against the floor with every hard turn.
The sedan matches speed, close enough to see the driver’s side window lowering. A familiar face from Knight’s End, calm and cold, stares straight at Thadeus and the others.
The Guarded Figure
You took the wrong papers.
Marla clenches the wheel and swerves around a puddle, keeping the car alive by inches. Elias twists around from the passenger seat, pale with recognition, while Elizabeth shifts forward, eyes fixed on the sedan.
Thadeus Jovanović
They know the ledger matters. That means it points straight at the people behind Knight’s End.
The sedan lingers at Thadeus’s window, trying to force a handoff or a crash. Behind them, the service hallway and the broken-star stamp are already falling away. Ahead is the only clean path left, get the names out, or lose the trail.

Evade the pursuing black sedan
“Thadeus once again closes his eyes and concentrates. Peacebringer's for twists and contorts, settling into a handgun. Elias recoils at the sight, "Thadeus, how is that possible?" Thadeus responds, "It's a long story, I'll explain after we make it home." Thadeus aims Peacebringer at the sedan's rear driver side tire, and pulls the trigger. Because of its form, instead of a bullet, a small ball of blue energy launches from the barrel, connection with the black sedan, causing it to burst into flames. Marla quickly speeds away as the sedan is unable to maintain speed with the destroyed tire.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Agility, rolled +2)
Thadeus closes his eyes for a beat, and Peacebringer shifts in his hand with a tight metallic pull, folding down into a handgun shape.
Elias
Thadeus, how is that possible?
Thadeus Jovanović
It is a long story. I will explain after we make it home.
He brings the barrel up through the rain-streaked glass and sights along the sedan’s rear driver-side tire.
The shot snaps out as a blue flash, strikes true, and the tire blooms into fire and shredded rubber.
The black sedan jerks hard, its chase line broken, while Marla seizes the opening and surges ahead through the slick lane.
Behind them, the sedan drops back on a burning rim, and Elias turns forward again as the road opens in front of Marla.
