The sanctum shudders with each slow pulse of ember-light. Poppy reaches the broken-ring pedestal, and the floor-runes crawl brighter beneath her boots.
Behind her, Vael’s fire roars at the passage mouth, turning the tunnel into a furnace wall. Far beyond it, metal rings answer with a muffled clatter, as if the shrine itself is straining against chains.

Poppy
The pedestal has three turn notches. One is already chipped.
A black seam opens along the altar’s base. Cold air spills out, carrying the sharp stink of old binding magic and ash.

The Lead Hunter
Poppy, step away from that stone. You cannot break what was forged to hold.
The chain-light in the runes flickers toward the hunter voice, then back toward Poppy’s hands. The shrine is waiting for one clean alignment, one hard turn, to snap the tether or wake its defenses.
✓ Quest Accepted
Align the broken-ring pedestal
“I ignore the hunter and shove the broken ring into the slot to snap the tether.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Strength, rolled +1)

Poppy shoves the broken ring into the slot. Stone grinds, then catches with a hard, final click.
The cold seam flashes pale through the altar base. Ember-runes dim around it, their chain-light snapping loose in a jitter of sparks.
At the passage mouth, Vael’s fire flickers low as the pressure in the shrine shifts, like a held breath breaking.

The Lead Hunter
No. Hold it, hold the line!
The floor-runes gutter, then burst outward in a quick, brittle pulse. Dust shakes from the altar edge.
Somewhere below the stone, a deep chain-answer cracks and goes slack. The hunter voice cuts off in the roar of failing magic.
