Dust sifts through the cave light as the silence after the ritual settles at last. Outside, somewhere far below, the mountain answers with a low, wounded groan.

Vael sits with his back to the stone, tired but steady now, his torn sleeve showing no active glow, only the memory of scales beneath skin. He looks up at Poppy, measuring the cave, the exit, and the road beyond.

They saw me. I cannot put that back into the dark.

Vael

Vael

If I stay hidden forever, they still win.

He draws a slow breath, then opens one hand toward the mouth of the cave, where pale mountain mist curls like a path waiting to be chosen.

Vael

Vael

Come with me, or leave me here. Either way, I will not be their weapon again.

The cave holds still around them, every loose stone and drifting mote caught in the same fragile pause. The future waits in the cold air between them.

Id love to go with you. But! I wanna see more of your dragon form if i do. You look better like that than like this.

Poppy lets the silence sit a moment, then answers Vael with a small, crooked smile. She steps closer to the cave mouth, where the mist silvering the dark makes his shadow seem half-born already.

I’d like to go with you. But I want to see more of your dragon form if I do. You look better like that than like this.

Vael huffs once, almost a laugh, and the tired lines in his shoulders ease. The cave light catches the old scale-marks under his torn sleeve as he looks down, then back up at her.

Vael

Vael

That is a dangerous thing to say to a dragon.

Vael

Vael

Still... he does not turn away.

He reaches for the ruined edge of his sleeve, then lets it fall, choosing not to hide. The air stirs around him, warm and bright with a faint amber sheen.

Vael

Vael

You saw the worst of what they made me. If you want the truest shape, I can give you that too.

He changes, not in a rush, but like a name being spoken correctly at last. Horn and scale bloom from him in the cave light, and the broken ritual stones nearby flash once with trapped gold before going still.

When the transformation settles, Vael lowers his great head toward Poppy, steady and unhunted. For the first time since the chamber, the mountain cave feels like a place that can hold a future.
