The Medium snatches the Hanged Man card from the table and presses it to the chalk line, fingers shaking. The walls answer with a low, wet murmur, as if the house is breathing through old plaster.

The Medium
Bob, finish it. Speak the last reading. Now.
The Paranormal Investigator backs toward the desk, staring at the sealed floorboards. Pale light tightens around the cards in a trembling ring.

The Paranormal Investigator
If she speaks the wrong word, we lose the binding. If she speaks the right one, it may still answer.
Ozone rides under the smell of wet earth. The card feels cold enough to burn.

The Caretaker
Turn it. Name it. Hang between, and keep the door shut.
The study shudders. Dust lifts from the shelves, then freezes in the lantern light as the hidden voice presses closer through the walls, waiting for Bob’s final word.

“Speak the last reading”
SUCCESS (Superb Willpower, rolled +1)

Bob
Turn it. Name it. Hang between. Keep the door shut.
The last reading leaves Bob’s mouth, and the study answers at once. The suspended dust drops in a single hush, as if the room is holding its breath.
The chalk circle flares thin and white. The cards on the table lift their corners, then slap flat as a cold pressure recoils from the walls.

The Medium
It heard her. It heard the right word.

The Paranormal Investigator
Seal it, now. Keep speaking.
Bob’s staff trembles in her hand. The hidden voice in the plaster thins to a whisper, dragged backward through the seams of the room.

The Mourning Woman
No, no, wait, I can feel it letting go. Do not stop.
The windows frost from the inside. One of the wall panels creaks outward a finger’s width, revealing darkness packed tight behind it.
Then the pressure breaks. The circle holds, but something in the study knocks once from beneath the floorboards, slow and deliberate, as if asking to be admitted.
