The hidden stair climbs through cold stone and opens beneath a moonless sky. Bob emerges from the Archives with the Warden Key, the living ledger, and a black crescent burning in her palm.
Edwin Harrow follows her into the abandoned courtyard. Behind them, the narrow stair seals beneath a skin of dust, leaving the Keeper of Records and the waiting ledgers below.

The Archives let you leave because you carried their authority out. They will come seeking it, or whoever claims it.
The ledger opens against Bob's arm without being touched. Its pages show two empty headings: WARDEN and WITNESS. Beneath them, fresh ink begins forming a third word.

Edwin Harrow
Do not let the mark choose for you. A warden commands the threshold. A witness belongs to what happened. The third name may belong to neither.
Black pages slide from the sealed stairwell and gather across the courtyard stones. Each bears a different version of Bob's name, while the Warden Key points toward the darkest one.

Whatever you carry out of this place, decide what it means before the Archives decide it for you.
