Veteran Hoplomacha reels inside the marked boundary, her spear lowered and shield wavering after Valeria’s reversal. The crowd surges toward a finishing exchange, hungry for the promised humiliation.
Marcus Flavius
There is the opening, but not yet the victory. Make her yield the ground, Valeria, and leave her no safe recovery.
The veteran’s forward foot skids, and her guard opens beside the shield. Her spear remains between them, though its point no longer commands the center.
Decimus Severus
Remember the seal. Concession or inability to continue ends this bout. No blow after either endpoint.
Veteran Hoplomacha
Do not mistake a stumble for surrender, Myrina. Come closer, and force me to say the word before Rome.
She drags the spearhead back into line and braces behind her shield, but the movement is slow. The opening remains narrow, dangerous, and entirely within Valeria’s reach.
“Dodging the spearpoint, she rushes her opponent and attempts to stun her with a blow to the helmet.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled +1)
Valeria slips outside the returning spearpoint and surges forward before Veteran Hoplomacha can rebuild her guard. Her gladiator armor turns the shaft aside as she drives into the opening.
Marcus Flavius
Now, Myrina! Take the center and finish the exchange cleanly.
Spear-Turning Showmanship carries Valeria through the bind: she twists the shaft across her shield, clears her sword, and closes before the veteran’s point can return.
The blunted sword snaps against Veteran Hoplomacha’s helmet with a sharp, controlled crack. The blow stuns her, and her knees buckle as her spear drops harmlessly within the boundary.
The crowd erupts, recognizing the decisive rush and the theatrical helmet strike as Myrina’s promised humiliation. Gladiator armor, footwork, and the safe blade have made the finish fierce without turning it lethal.
Decimus Severus
The opponent is unable to continue. The bout ends here, under the sealed terms, with no further blow.
Veteran Hoplomacha remains upright only for a breath before settling to one knee, dazed but breathing. The roar rolls through the Colosseum as the officials mark Valeria’s clean victory and lawful full purse.
