Mysteries of Creation

The opened passage slopes beyond Maelin’s chamber, its walls veined with dim amber lines that answer the three-pronged sign above the basin. Seren follows close behind, charcoal ready, while the Book of Arcana grows warm in Almira’s grasp.

The amber veins pulse beneath their passing, not like a warning but like recognition. Behind them, Maelin’s chamber remains open and silent, its preserved figures turning without pursuit.

At the descent’s end, a circular doorway fills the passage. Its stone surface bears three carved scenes: a figure emerging, a body changing, and the same figure returning beneath Maelin’s mark.

The Book’s warmth gathers into Almira’s palm. Three faint amber lines rise from its cover and settle across the doorway, illuminating the first scene while the other two remain dark.

Almira holds the Book of Arcana steady and traces the first carved scene without touching the door. The amber lines waver beneath their hand, then slip away from the intended figure.

The Book’s three lines flare unevenly. Instead of illuminating emergence, they cross the central scene and awaken the figure’s changing form, which turns toward the sealed circle.

A thin amber fissure appears around the central carving, widening into the outline of a hand-sized opening. Within it, a faint image of Maelin’s mark turns once and points inward.

The Book’s warmth settles, no longer resisting Almira’s grasp. The central scene remains lit, and the small opening waits beside it, offering access to whatever the carving concealed.

Almira bends to the hand-sized opening and peers through. The turning mark resolves into three nested rings, each bearing a different image of Maelin’s changing form.

Beyond the mark lies a hidden chamber, not stone but amber memory. Maelin stands within it, preserved at the moment of alteration, one hand resting against a narrow inner threshold.

Her fingers indicate a small sigil beneath the threshold. As Almira focuses on it, the symbol separates into precise strokes revealing the sequence needed to pass: change, witness, return.

The turning mark answers Almira’s gaze. A second slit opens beneath the first, broad enough for the Book of Arcana to slide through, while the circular doorway remains sealed but understood.

Almira slides the Book through the narrow slit and follows its amber reflection inward with their sight, entering the preserved moment around Maelin’s alteration.

The chamber closes around their awareness. Maelin’s form divides into overlapping stages: flesh becoming radiance, radiance forming unfamiliar structure, and the witness-mark tightening between them.

Almira reaches for the instant of change, but the sequence refuses to hold still. The middle stage folds inward, hiding what Maelin became before return can be witnessed.

The failed grasp leaves a narrow opening behind: a single suspended instant where Maelin’s hand points beyond the changing form, toward a dark space beneath the inner threshold.

Almira steps onto the fourth sigil beneath the inner threshold. Amber light rises around their feet, joining the three marks already awakened into a complete circle.

The preserved alteration steadies. Maelin’s divided form draws together, and the hidden stage beneath the threshold opens as a clear amber image rather than a shifting mystery.

Within the amber image, Maelin’s hand withdraws from the inner threshold. Beneath it rests a small black seed of radiance, pulsing with a slow rhythm like a second heart.

The fourth sigil dims beneath Almira, its purpose fulfilled. A narrow amber stair unfolds beyond the inner threshold, descending toward the black radiance while Maelin’s image waits in silence.
