Beyond the bronze threshold, the circular chamber widens around a sunken basin filled with slow amber radiance. Maelin Voss’s three-pronged mark shines at its center.
Preserved figures turn along the walls in silent cycles, their translucent bodies shifting through stages of emergence, alteration, and return. One gathers itself near the basin’s far side.
Seren stands beside Almira with vellum ready, charcoal poised above the page. The amber light catches his face as the forming figure raises one hand.
Seren Arcal
That is the beginning of her gesture. I know it, but the chamber is showing more than a memory this time.
The figure’s arm completes its outward turn. Amber threads descend from its fingers into the basin, and the radiance answers with widening rings around Maelin’s mark.
Seren Arcal
I will record every change. If she left an instruction here, we must not mistake it for an invitation.
The preserved figure turns its indistinct face toward Almira and Seren. Its gesture pauses above the glowing basin, waiting while the chamber’s amber light deepens.

Interpret the chamber's instruction
“I trace Maelin’s mark in the air, pausing before I touch the basin.”
SUCCESS (Fair Agility, rolled +1)
Almira traces Maelin’s three-pronged mark in the air, each gesture measured and clear. They pause with their hand suspended just above the amber basin.
The unseen pattern answers before their fingers descend. Amber lines rise from the basin, mirroring Almira’s tracing, and the mark at the chamber’s center opens into three turning rings.
Seren Arcal
It recognized the gesture without requiring touch. Maelin intended the next witness to understand the mark, not merely repeat it.
Seren lowers his charcoal and watches the rings widen. Within their amber light, the preserved figure becomes distinct enough to show Maelin’s braided white hair and narrow, familiar frame.
Seren Arcal
That is her. Almira, you have opened the instruction she left beneath the gesture. I can see a second mark forming below it.
A second three-pronged sign appears within the basin’s glow, joined to a descending line of amber light. The chamber’s far wall parts silently, revealing a darkened passage beyond.
Seren Arcal
She left a way forward for someone who could read her beginning.
