The three companions gather on the lower landing as the sealed alcoves fall dark one by one. Retreating script fades from the walls, leaving only Hadrik’s lantern.

Hadrik trims the lantern wick and watches the last golden letters withdraw into the stone. The light catches his weathered face, solemn beneath the archive’s vast silence.

I used to think every journey ended when the map was complete. Now I suspect the map only proves how much of the world remains willing to surprise us.

Seren closes his record book and rests both hands upon its cover. For once, he does not look toward the walls or the darkened alcoves, but toward Almira.

Beyond Fishing and the Ashen Fells lies the citadel of the Original Order. Whatever knowledge waits there, I want to seek it with you, not merely record that someone else did.

The old road will not care whether you seek wisdom, mastery, or an answer about yourselves. It will test what you carry into it.

The landing falls quiet again. The sealed archives offer no further sign, leaving the citadel ahead, the kind of knowledge it may contain, and Almira’s next answer suspended in the lanternlight.

“Using seduction I ask the two men to work together to help establish a safer root to the citadel, my plan is to turn the once great fortress into a center of learning, where the magics and secrets of creation can be shared instead of possessed”

Work together with me to make a safer route to the citadel. I would turn that fortress into a center of learning, where Creation's secrets are shared rather than possessed.

Almira lets the proposal rest between them with a knowing smile and an open hand. Lanternlight warms their silvery hair as the two men consider the invitation.

A safer route, a living school, and knowledge that no single keeper can lock away. Yes. I will chart it, and help build what follows.

Then I will guide the first travelers from Fishing, and teach them which ground deserves trust. A fortress should shelter wisdom, not bury it.

Seren offers Hadrik his hand. The ferryman clasps it firmly, and their agreement gives the silent landing a new purpose beyond retreat.

We begin with the route, then the records, then the doors that can safely welcome others. I want my maps to serve that future.

And I will find the people willing to learn without claiming what they learn. The citadel will have guardians, but not masters of every secret.

First we enter the citadel and secure it. We cannot bring people into an unknown situation.

The ascent ends beneath the citadel’s black outer gate. Almira reads the stone, the air, and the faint ward-lines beyond it, finding no concealed threat that would prevent entry.

Their amber mark answers the gate. Ancient locks withdraw, and Almira leads Seren and Hadrik through empty halls into a broad central court, where dust lies undisturbed beneath a roof open to the sky.

No living presence, no active ward, and no sign of recent passage. I will map every entrance before anyone follows us here.

Almira’s perception traces the citadel’s defenses through towers, galleries, and sealed chambers. The outer approaches can be watched, the inner doors can be barred, and no hidden pattern threatens the three explorers.

Hadrik Pell

Then it is secured enough for a first welcome. I will keep the gate and tell Fishing that no traveler enters until you judge the place ready.

Together they bar the approaches, mark the safe halls, and establish the citadel as their guarded base. Only after its silence has been tested will they invite others to learn within it.
