The frost-light settles over Hhannvis and answers the gift. His spear swells into a heavier war-head, jagged and dense, while his red bow thickens into dark, hard wood. Cold warmth rolls through his chest in one pulsing beat.

Under his feet, the black pebbles begin to hum. Faint geometric etchings flare across them one after another, as if the ground itself is waking up from a long burial.

So. The shelf remembers.

The pebbles shift in place, not as loose stone but as fitted fragments. A few roll aside and show smoother faces beneath, scarred with old lines and worn angles that look made, not broken.

Those are not river stones. We have been standing on old cast-offs all along.

Then the Pit keeps its dead tools where it keeps its living people. I do not like that.

Around the blockhouse, the tribe folk hold still, no longer a mob of rough shapes but guarded people measuring the revelation with wary eyes. The smoke sigil above them widens, and the hidden road into the basin feels older, safer, and stranger all at once.

Hhannvis lowers his free hand to the etched stone and casts harmonize. The frost-light on his gear steadies, then threads outward in pale rings.

The nearest black pebbles answer at once. Their lines brighten, and the fitted shapes beneath the surface lock into a larger pattern like gears finding teeth.

A low tone rises from the shelf, not a voice, but a held note that runs through the blockhouse wall and up into the widened smoke sigil.

There. The old power wakes cleanly for you.

By the roots... they are not just stones. They are part of the holding.

If that foundation stirs, we should all decide quickly whether to stand on it or away from it.

One etched seam opens with a dry click, showing a deeper channel of dark, polished material under the pebbles, and several tribe folk step back as if the ground has become a tool in waiting.
