The warehouse district lies dead under a low gray sky, puddles slick with oil and stagnant water. Mara slows beside Buster as the red-check code points them to a warehouse marked by fresh, black paint over old graffiti.

Buster Jones
The mark is new. Someone has been here recently.
A side door hangs open a crack. Inside, a dim apartment kitchen and living room have been carved out of the warehouse shell, lit by a single lamp and the blue blink of a monitor.

Mara
This is not a hideout. It is a signal.
On the monitor, a file opens by itself, showing Buster's apartment address, the route to the church, and the neighborhood meeting. Every place they tried to make safe is mapped in red.

Buster Jones
They are tracing us.
A speaker crackles from the dark back room, and a familiar voice comes through calm and remote. The code was never a meeting request, it is a summons. Buster and Mara stand at the edge of another trap, and this one points straight at the life they are trying to build.
“I check the back room for whoever spoke”
SUCCESS (Great Perception, rolled +2)

Buster steps past the kitchen edge into the back room, and the blue monitor glow thins into a narrow spill across stacked crates and a worktable. A chair sits turned away from the door, still warm from recent use.

Buster Jones
Someone just left this room.
On the table, a radio handset lies beside a paper strip marked with the same red check pattern from Mrs. Bell’s list. A coffee cup is half-full, steam gone cold.
Buster reaches the far corner and finds a second doorway, open into a narrow office. The wall inside is covered with route maps, apartment numbers, and copies of his face clipped from different flyers.
A speaker on the shelf crackles once. The Unknown Voice stays hidden, but the room answers for them, a tiny screen lighting up with a live feed of the warehouse entrance and the street outside.

Unknown Voice
You came on time. That means the message worked.
Buster’s eyes catch one pinned note near the maps, and the name on it matches the contact number from the flyer. The back room is no empty den, it is the handlers’ control point, and they know he is here.
