The hunter stumbles, dragged off balance by the blow, and the whole front rank shifts with them.

The captain’s voice cuts through the fluorescent buzz. One rifle comes up, then hesitates, blocked by the teammate Buster has shoved into the line of fire.
The open side exit stays clear for the refugees, but the hunters no longer look organized. Their containment gear skitters uselessly across the concrete.

They cannot get through him.
Above them, the heavy thuds keep battering the broken stairwell, louder now, while the captain looks past Buster and realizes the basement is no longer theirs.

The hunters start giving ground into the dim beyond the stairs, abandoning the breach and the spilled net launcher as they search for cover.
