Neko ducks into the culvert first, boots skidding on wet stone. Behind him, Sister Elowen clutches the satchel as the relic gives a low, hungry hum. Harrow squeezes in last, eyes on the entrance.
The tunnel narrows fast. Moss slicks the walls, and the air turns sour with ozone and rot. From outside, heavy boots hammer gravel, then hands start ripping at the masonry.

Harrow
They found the yard. Keep moving, the hill is waking up.
Deep inside the hill, a machine thuds once, then answers with a wet, grinding churn. The relic in Elowen's satchel brightens against the dark, tugging toward the sound like a compass finding north.

Sister Elowen
It is reacting again. Neko, this leads straight to it.

Neko
Then we follow it.
Stone dust rains from the ceiling as the entrance begins to break. Ahead, the culvert bends toward a faint seam of light and a stink of old flesh, the hidden making place opening at last.
“I follow the relic toward the inner workshop”
SUCCESS (Great Athletics, rolled +1)

Neko moves with the relic's pull, driving through the bend as the tunnel tightens around his shoulders.
The satchel brightens in Elowen's grip, and she hurries after him, boots slipping on the wet stone.

Harrow
The pull is strongest now. If the seal breaks here, we are all exposed.
Neko catches the lean of the current, plants hard, and surges through the last narrow stretch.
The culvert opens into the hidden workshop at last, a rough chamber stained with resin and old blood.

Sister Elowen
We made it. Neko, it found the way.
Beyond them, in the workshop shadows, something shifts once, and the smell of damp flesh thickens the air.
“Is something moving deeper in the workshop?”
YES, BUT (VeryLikely, rolled 75)
A heavy, wet thud echoes from the darkness, followed by the sound of something large dragging itself across the stone floor.

Harrow
It is not just one thing in there, and it has already caught our scent.
“Is the thing in the dark already aware of us?”
YES, BUT (VeryLikely, rolled 69)
The creature is indeed aware of the intruders, but it remains motionless in the gloom, waiting for them to step further into its reach.
“I hold my sword out and approach the center.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled +1)

Neko advances with his greatsword leveled, crossing the workshop floor in measured steps. The relic stirs behind Elowen, but the chamber does not lunge at him, it yields a narrow lane toward the center.

Harrow
They are letting us in on purpose... or showing us where they want the strike to land.
He reaches the middle of the room and sets his feet. Resin-dark stains shine on the stone around him, and the back wall quivers with a slow, breathing weight.

Sister Elowen
Neko, the satchel feels hotter. It is pulling toward that dark.
Harrow stays low near the wall, tracking the shifting shadow while keeping clear of Neko's blade. The hidden chamber ahead seems to hold its breath.

Harrow
You have the center now. If something comes through, it comes through you first.
The far gloom thickens, and a larger shape starts to gather behind the pale limb already pressed to stone. The workshop changes with it, as if the room itself has chosen a side.
“I hold the center and strike first”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled +0)

Neko cuts first. His greatsword flashes into the swelling dark, and the thing behind the pale limb jerks back under the blow.
Stone grinds. The limb tears free from the wall, and a ribbed mass spills into view, slick with resin and dust.

Neko
There is more of it than the wall showed.

Harrow
That is the heart of it, strike it again!
Sister Elowen staggers one step forward, the iron-bound satchel tugging hard against her hand, its broken seal glowing faintly against the dark.
The chamber shudders, and the path behind the creature opens wide, no longer hidden.
“I press into the opened passage determined to kill it.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled +1)

Neko drives forward into the opening, boots grinding resin dust, sword rising again before the thing can gather itself.
The pale, many-limbed mass twists under the threshold and takes the hit head-on. Its body jerks sideways, scraping stone and yanking loose more of the wall behind it.
Behind the torn place, the hidden passage breathes cold air and old stink. Resin and blood hang thicker there, like a workshop left open too long.

Harrow
Push it back, Neko, before it seals the way!
Sister Elowen braces herself at the edge of the room, satchel clenched tight, the broken seal flickering as if it senses the open dark ahead.
Neko follows through, forcing the creature deeper through the breach and into the exposed chamber. The path is his now, but something beyond the opening shifts in answer.
“I demand the creature reveal itself.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Neko
Come out. Show yourself.
The dark answers by scraping itself open. Resin dust shakes from the ceiling as the pale mass peels free of the wall, all jointed limbs, slick shell plates, and a wet, breathing sheen.
It pushes into view, and the hidden chamber beyond it is no longer hidden. Crates, stains, and carved stone lines sit under the sour reek of resin and blood.

Harrow
So that is what the relic was leading us to.

Sister Elowen
It heard you. Neko, the seal is reacting again.
The satchel jerks against Elowen’s grip, and a brittle crack runs across the broken seal. The creature flinches at the sound, exposing a narrow path around its flank.
Neko’s blade bites the stone as he holds his ground, and the creature shudders back, revealed at last. The cost lands in the same breath, a ringing jar through his arms from the hard stop.
“Is the creature capable of speech?”
NO, AND WORSE (Unlikely, rolled 93)
The creature lets out a wet, rattling hiss that vibrates through the floor, but no words follow. It is a mindless, thrashing engine of shell and resin, and it lunges forward with a speed that defies its bulk.

Harrow
It has no mind to bargain with, Neko. It is only a weapon.
“I brace and strike the lunging beast killing it.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Melee Combat, rolled +1)

Neko plants his boots, takes the beast’s rush on his blade, and turns its momentum aside. Steel bites through shell and resin, and the thing jerks hard in his grip.
The lunging mass drops in a heavy, spasming heap. Its limbs scrape once against the floor, then go slack.

Harrow
Down.
Harrow snaps a hand out toward Elowen, and the priestess ducks under the flicker of torchlight as the satchel jerks against her hip.

Sister Elowen
It is pulling again.
The broken seal on the iron-bound satchel cracks wider, and a thin drift of resin dust sifts from the torn wall behind them.
Ahead, the chamber no longer feels hidden. The fallen creature’s body lies between Neko and the deeper passage, while the air beyond it shivers with a second, heavier movement.
“I ask Harrow how to stop the relic”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled +1)

Neko
How do I stop the relic?

Harrow
Not by striking it. You bind the reaction, or drown it in something older than blood.

Harrow
Salt, ash, and resin can hold a waking thing still for a while. If the seal is broken, you need a fresh ward over the mouth of the satchel.

Sister Elowen
Then we can do that here. I have wax, thread, and a prayer strip in my pack.

Harrow
If Neko helps me, we may keep the relic quiet long enough to move it. If he hesitates, the chamber will answer first.
The fallen creature lies between them like a broken door, but the room does not rush. Harrow kneels by the satchel, already working out the shape of a ward, while Elowen opens her pack with careful hands.
Dust keeps falling from the torn wall, and beyond the body the deeper passage shivers once, as if something inside has heard its name and decided to wait.
“I help ward the satchel with salt and ash and ask what do we do with it now”
SUCCESS (Good Crafting, rolled -1)

Neko crouches in, pinching salt and ash into the broken seal while Harrow holds the satchel mouth steady. The grains catch the resin light, and the torn edge stops twitching under their hands.

Neko
What do we do with it now?

Harrow
We keep it quiet until the next town. Then we find someone with a proper ward table, or a priest who still remembers how to bind a waking thing.

Sister Elowen
I can carry it if it is sealed. I would rather not be the reason it wakes again.
Elowen threads waxed thread through the prayer strip while Neko presses the fresh mixture into place. The satchel gives a faint, stubborn pulse, then settles under the new ward.

Harrow
Good. That buys us time. Not safety, just time.
Harrow ties off the last knot and lifts the satchel by its strap. Resin dust sifts from the wall behind them, but the deeper passage holds still, as if listening to the ward take.
“I seal the satchel tighter and keep moving”
SUCCESS (Good Crafting, rolled -2)

Neko adds a final layer of ash to the seam and thumbs the prayer strip flat. The broken seal stiffens under his touch, and the satchel’s restless pulse dies into a hard, contained weight.
He rises with the bag in one hand and his sword back in the other. Resin dust sheds from the torn wall as he steps toward the darker opening, the workshop air thick with resin and old blood.

Harrow
If it stirs again, we cut the strap and run. Keep it close, but do not trust it.

Sister Elowen
I am ready. Let us keep moving while it is quiet.
Neko takes the first step into the passage, and the ward holds. Behind him, the workshop dims; ahead, the tunnel opens into a lower chamber lined with rough stone and shell dust.
Something shifts just out of sight below, not a lunge, only a deliberate scrape against rock. The quiet is gone, but the path is open.
“We leave and head to the next town to see the priest about keeping the relic safe.”
SUCCESS (Good Agility, rolled +3)
