The tannery’s heat rolls over Neko as he comes in with the shell-beast hide and head. Bram pauses at the threshold, measuring the goods one last time.

Bram

Bram

Good haul. Better than most bring me. I have other work, though, and coin to count.

Bram gives Neko a short nod, then slips out into the street and is swallowed by the city crowd.

The Armorer steps forward at once, broad hands scarred by hammer and hide-knife. His eyes lock on the shell head, then the folded hide, already weighing their worth.

The Armorer

The Armorer

That is stout salvage. If the hide stays whole and the head is clean, I can make use of both. Let me see the marks.

He reaches for the pieces with a greedy, practiced care, while the wet cloth near the stove sends up a thin ribbon of steam.

Neko sets the hide down first, then lowers the shell head beside it with a dull thud. The counter takes the weight, and the Armorer leans closer, fingers hovering over the seams.

He turns the hide over once, then again, searching for cuts and rot. His mouth tightens at one torn edge, but his eyes stay sharp.

The Armorer

The Armorer

Whole enough. Not perfect, but better than scraps. This can still take a proper form.

The Armorer hooks a thumb under the shell head and angles it toward the stove light. The wet cloth nearby keeps steaming, the counter neat behind his hands.

The Armorer

The Armorer

The plates are dense, the grain is good, and the hide has clean stretch. With this, I can promise something worth wearing.

If you bring me the rest of the contract proof, I can take this as a masterwork commission. Otherwise, I need a price in silver and a day at the forge.

His hand rests on the hide a moment longer, possessive now, while the ledger waits open at his elbow.

I tell him that im here to just sell the items.

Then silver it is. Straightforward is not the same as lesser, and I can respect that.

He eases one hand off the hide and reaches for the ledger instead of the forge tools. The steam from the wet cloth curls between them, softening the hard angles of the counter.

The Armorer

The Armorer

This hide still has value, even if it does not suit my finest work. Better a clean sale than a proud bargain gone sour.

He scratches a sum into the page, then nudges the coin scale closer with two fingers. The shell head stays angled toward the lamp, its plates catching a dull, honest sheen.

The Armorer

The Armorer

You bring in good salvage, and you do not waste time dressing it up. That is rare enough to remember.

The tally settles, and the Armorer looks back up from the ledger with a measured, approving calm, waiting to see whether Neko has anything more to add before he pays out.
