Miles kneels over the recovered chest. Her picks find the unfamiliar tumblers, but each one slips back with a dull click. Beneath the deck, the rune-marked cannons brighten in the same slow rhythm as the Star Streak's vibration.

Sophie steps beside her. Red light gathers around her fingers as she casts an unlocking spell. The chest answers with a deep pulse, echoing through the hull and into the fragment held by Kael.

The spell yields. The lid opens onto the robed keeper's luminous star chart, once believed to be a guide toward the ship's power. Its silver path now redraws itself, leading from the Star Streak toward the hidden source of the tether. At the route's end, a bright symbol folds shut like a waiting snare. The map was never a way out. It was an invitation into the trap.

The snare-symbol tightens around the chart's far end. Kael's black blade rises into view, its star-speckled edge catching the chart's cold light.

He swings once. The blade passes through the folded symbol with quiet, effortless force.

The hidden tether breaks. Its pressure vanishes from the Star Streak, and the silver route collapses into harmless sparks.

A violent crack runs through the cannon deck. One rune-lit cannon gutters, and a fresh split opens across the planks beneath the chest. The victory costs the ship a damaged firing sigil.

The last sparks gather above the fragment in Kael's grasp, forming a darkened emblem while the cannons resume their uneasy rhythm. Sophie reaches for her crystal ball, waiting to see whether the emblem answers.

Kael directs the repair with swift gestures, guiding Sophie toward the damaged firing sigil and Anna toward the split planks.
