Anna braces at the rail and helps pull the line. Miles gathers loose fragments into a sling. Julia sorts the salvage beneath the deck lamps, while Emma examines a dented Scro cuirass for signs of danger.

The familiar low rhythm rolls through the Star Streak, the same pulse that has haunted every passage since the unseen tether beneath Close Space Nine. Beneath a torn sheet of black armor, a rune-marked fragment answers with a dull, starless glow.

A thin glow stretches from the fragment into the void, pulling taut toward something unseen. Around it, the collected debris shifts and drifts together, as though the scattered wreckage has heard the same distress signal. The ropes tighten in their coils, and the fragment pulses once more, awaiting a response.
