The maintenance shed rattles with distant impacts as the radio hisses out one last update, the extraction zone is close, and the window is closing fast. Benjamin stands at the shed door with his bat and pack, the rail line stretching ahead in rust and moonlight.

Radio Voice
Evacuation point remains active. Final transport window opens now. Civilians, move to the marked perimeter immediately.

Louis
If we wait any longer, we miss it.

Jenny
Benjamin, say the word. We move together or we do not move at all.
Outside, shapes drift between the rail ties, drawn by the sound. A few are slow, but there are enough to turn the track into a choke point. The extraction lights glow faintly ahead, half-lost in haze.

Elias
That light ahead is the zone. The tracks should take us straight in, but only if we clear the line.
Louis tightens his grip and shifts beside Jenny, both of them ready but waiting on Benjamin. The shed door hangs open behind them, the rail line and the undead between them and the only safe exit left.
“I rush the rail line with Jenny and Louis”
SUCCESS (Great Athletics, rolled +0)

Benjamin explodes out of the shed first, bat low, pack thumping hard against his back. Louis lunges after him, and Jenny slips in close on his flank, all three of them hitting the rails as one moving line.
The nearest dead swing toward the noise, but Benjamin barrels through the gap before they can lock in. One body reels off the ballast, and another catches a hard shoulder from Louis, both shoved clear of the path.
Jenny keeps pace without slowing, rifle tucked tight as she drives the trio forward. Elias stays in the doorway a beat longer, watching the opening they make, then steps out into the wake behind them.
Moonlight flashes along the rusted steel as they clear the choke point in a burst of motion. The undead are behind them now, scattered and losing shape, while the extraction lights ahead grow sharp and bright.
Benjamin reaches the marked perimeter first and drags the others into it, boots skidding on gravel. The rail line falls away behind them, and the last wave of hands never quite gets purchase on the open ground.
At the zone edge, a supply crate stands open beside the lights, with bottled water and sealed field rations stacked inside. Louis grabs the nearest case and lets out a breath he has been holding too long.

Jenny
We made it. Benjamin, tell me who needs a pack first.

The four of them stood inside the perimeter, breathing hard beside the supply crate.

Benjamin
We made it. Nobody stops now.

Louis
Thought I'd die on that rail line. Better ending than I deserved.

Jenny
Food, water, and walls. I'll take the miracle.

Elias
Signal's past. We're inside. That's enough.
The extraction zone held, and Benjamin stood with the others under its harsh lights, alive and finally still. Behind them, the rail line and the dead belonged to the chapter that was over. Ahead was only rest, rations, and the hard comfort of having survived together.
