Mud sucks at Benjamin’s boots as he reaches the transport truck. The cab door hangs half-jammed, and the knocking inside speeds up, frantic and weak.
Dane and Elias spread out behind him, rifles up, eyes cutting the tree line for any movement. The dark woods answer with silence.
A red flare sputters near the rear wheels, then dies to sparks. Duffel bags lie scattered in the mud, half-open and promising supplies.

Please, open it, before they come back.
Benjamin gets his bat under the warped door seam and heaves. Metal shrieks, and the cab shifts just enough to give.
Dane
Move fast. If there is one alive in there, there could be more trouble right on top of us.
Elias
Grab the radio first if you can. That gear may be the difference between a rescue and a body count.

Benjamin catches them under the arms and drags them clear of the cab, boots slipping in the mud.

A small radio set hangs loose on its mount inside the cab, half-wired and still intact. The weak knocking stops.

Good. Now get away from the truck and stay low.

There may be more in the wreckage. Move, Benjamin, but watch the dark.
