Butch and Sable leave the guild hall behind and slip into a quieter lane, where wet cobbles mute the market’s roar. A squat stone office waits ahead, its signboard plain but solid, covered in pinned notices and wax seals.
The new contractors guild is small, independent, and busy in a low, practical way. Inside, lamp smoke hangs over a wooden board crowded with wanted posters, burglary writs, and bounty chits.
A broad-shouldered woman behind the counter looks up from her ledger. She has ink on her fingers and a silver pin shaped like a key.

The Clerk
New hunters? If you want work, read the board. If you want a payday, bring back proof.
Sable steps closer, scanning the lower rows of notices while Butch’s bulk fills the doorway. The board offers half a dozen names, each tied to theft, arson, or missing coin.

The Clerk
Wanted folk first, questions second. Pick your quarry, and I’ll stamp the claim.
One fresh notice catches the light, sealed in green wax and marked for a river-ferry thief with a reward in hard gold. Sable rests a hand near the paper, waiting for Butch to choose.

“Butch grabs a handful of wanted posters off the board and puts them on the counter, telling the woman behind the desk that they will track down all 4 of these criminals”
SUCCESS (Superb Intimidation, rolled -3)

Butch strips four wanted notices from the board in one rough sweep and slaps them onto the counter. The fresh wax seals crack under his palm.

Butch the Wereboar
We track down all four.
The Clerk of the Board takes the stack, eyes widening at the force of the claim. The stamp comes down hard, and a smear of green wax marks the wood.

The Clerk
All four, then. That is a loud promise. You’ll need proof on each one, and I’ll want the chits back clean.
Sable gathers the accepted notices against her chest, while the shadow-mist residue at Butch’s boots twitches once, then thins.

The Clerk
Too many eyes on this room already. I hope those watchers stay outside.
Butch’s elbow catches the edge of the counter, leaving a shallow notch in the wood. The river-ferry thief notice is gone with the others, and the board looks suddenly bare in that row.

“I tell Sable that we must find an armory so we can buy equipment for the journey”
SUCCESS (Legendary Willpower, rolled -2)

Butch the Wereboar
We need an armory. We should buy what we lack before we leave.

Sable
Agreed. Steel, straps, and anything that keeps you standing are worth the coin.
Sable folds the last notice into her grip and turns toward the door. The Clerk flinches at the words armory, then glances at the hall doors as if expecting them to burst open.

The Clerk
Not here, not now, please... let them take their trouble elsewhere.
Butch shifts his weight back from the counter, and the green wax smear catches on his glove. The shadow-mist residue at his boots thins to almost nothing, while the unanchored tether on the floor gives one hungry twitch.
From the doorway, cold alley light cuts across the bare row on the board and the broken crown seal on the contract. The Clerk swallows hard, staring past Butch toward the street, as though unseen watchers might already be waiting outside.
“Butch and Sable leave the guilde and head towards the local amory”
