The Debt is Broken

Butch and Sable climb out of the broken hollow into cold moor air. Behind them, the chamber sags inward, and the black water mirror is gone. The ground no longer throbs underfoot.

Across the heather, old scare-crows lean at fresh angles, as if the land has forgotten how to hold its debts. The wind runs clean for the first time in ages, but it feels wary, not kind.

Sable comes up beside Butch, breathing hard, shield lowered. Her eyes track the moor, then flick back to him, relieved to still be standing.

Sable

Sable

It is done. I can feel the pull gone.

At the shattered threshold below, the Hooded Figure remains in the ruin, half-lit by the fading gloom. They do not step forward. They watch the empty chamber with disbelief, as if waiting for the debt to crawl back from the stones.

So this is the end of it... or the beginning of something worse.

The moor answers with one last shiver, then stills. Sable turns toward Butch, steady and ready, while the Hooded Figure lingers below in silence. The path home lies open.

Butch the Wereboar leaves Beneath the moor behind and arrives at a new home.

I take Sabke by the hand and tell her it is time that we journey far away to find a new home where our love can flourish without the weight of the past

The Debt is Broken

A low stone cottage crouches at the edge of the moor, its roof dark with lichen and its windows warm with lamplight. Inside, the air smells of peat smoke, bread, and clean rushes laid across the floor.

Butch and Sable cross the threshold together, and the door settles shut behind them with a soft wooden thud. The old hunger of the moor feels far away here, muffled by thick walls and a steady hearth.

Then we leave it behind. No more looking back.

She closes her fingers around his, and the black burn of the old tether gives one faint, harmless pulse before going still. On the threshold stone outside, a smear of shadow-mist lingers, then thins in the draft.

The Hooded Figure

I never thought I would see a debt end cleanly. I was wrong.

The Hooded Figure remains by the hearth, staring at the empty floor where the writhing tether once lay, disbelief softening at last into quiet acceptance. Sable leans against Butch, weary and steady, while the new house waits around them like a promise kept.

The Debt is Broken

The moor wind eased as the last tremor passed through the stone cottage.

Sable

It is gone. The pull, the ache, all of it. We are ours again.

Aye. No more chains. Just you, me, and a door that stays shut behind us.

So it ends. Quietly, then.

Outside, the old moor held its silence, and the ruin beneath it kept its secrets.

Butch and Sable remained in the small stone cottage, no longer pulled by debt or dread. Behind them, the hooded figure faded into the settled night, and the moor took back its broken history. What was owed had been paid, and their new life began in hard-won peace.
