Drokthar leads Elion, Saadia, Lydia, and Oskar through a concealed stair beneath Orythiel’s office. Bronze doors seal behind them, shutting out the Academy’s distant murmur.

The chamber below is perfectly circular. Concentric bronze wards cover the floor and walls, their symbols turning slowly around a black reliquary resting on a low stone dais.

Orythiel waits beside the dais, his luminous eye fixed on the object. Its surface bears no inscription, seam, or mark, yet the wards brighten as Elion approaches.

Drokthar Volundar

Drokthar Volundar

Do not touch the lock. If this answers your blood, it may reveal why the dragon’s power awakened within you.

Orythiel Draemnor

Orythiel Draemnor

And it may reveal something that cannot be returned to silence. We will observe first, Elion. Opening it is your choice only if it remains possible.

Before either mage can move, a thin line of gold light draws itself from Elion’s hand to the reliquary’s lock. The wards fold inward, one ring after another.

The lock opens without a sound. Darkness spills through the widening seam, carrying the scent of rain on ancient stone, while a distant golden glow beckons from within.

“What even is this?”

What even is this?

Drokthar Volundar

Drokthar Volundar

A sealed archive from before the Fifth Era, not a tomb or weapon. It preserves knowledge through living mana, and your blood has opened its outer vessel.

The golden radiance inside the reliquary gathers into hovering bands of script, illuminating the chamber without fire. Each symbol turns toward Elion, then settles into a readable pattern.

Orythiel Draemnor

Orythiel Draemnor

It is an archive keyed to draconic inheritance. The dead dragon did not place this power in you. Its passing awakened what your blood already carried.

Saadia

Then the object was waiting for him specifically. That explains why its wards ignored everyone else.

The script forms a single phrase in the old tongue, followed by its meaning in common speech: Blood remembers what the world has buried. The archive is open to Elion.

The symbols rearrange beneath his attention. The first truth emerges: the archive was made to preserve the history of the Five Forgotten Dragon Kings, and draconic blood was chosen as its living key.

Drokthar Volundar

Drokthar Volundar

You have read past the outer translation. The archive confirms that your inheritance is older than the Fifth Era, and that the name Haal’vur refers to a bearer, not a place.

A second ring unfolds, revealing a pale route of symbols leading deeper beneath the Academy. The script marks the passage as accessible only to Elion, granting him a path no mage present could open alone.

Orythiel Draemnor

Then the archive has accepted you as its witness. It is offering access to a deeper record, one even Drokthar and I have never entered.

Saadia

Saadia

A history of the Dragon Kings, hidden beneath the Academy. Whatever waits below, it may explain why the dead dragon called you Haal’vur.

The final symbols settle into a narrow archway of gold. Beyond it, darkness gives way to distant starlike lights, and the archive waits for Elion’s next step.

“Elion, says Orythiel. I turn. Before you go... Drokthar turns and looks at Orythiel. No, he finally says, go, it is better for you to see for yourself. I nod and as i step through, the first thing i see is this event: In Year 127 of the 1st Era, Kheros confronted Kravuun, the Dragon King of Negation, in Morthandûr. Using his Golden Voice and Rahgolviing, he defeated Kravuun but suffered a fatal void wound. Before vanishing, he scarred the four remaining Dragon Kings, forcing their retreat. Their clash created the Battlefield of the Kings, a vast mana-saturated crater known as the Golden Hollow. Kheros left behind the Draconic Codex of Harmony, preserved within the Mana Academy. After visionning the first truth, i am in shock. These beings are the closest things to divine beings, i thought. This was only the first truth. No. Go. It is better for you to see for yourself.

Elion nods and steps through the golden arch. The chamber vanishes. In Year 127 of the First Era, the golden-voiced warrior, a broad-shouldered adult man with dark skin, close-cropped hair, and a scarred face beneath gold-trimmed crimson armor, confronts the Dragon King of Negation, an immense adult dragon with pale ash scales, a crown of black horns, four folded wings, and a long, skeletal muzzle,, the Dragon King of Negation, across Morthandûr.

“I follow it. Then another vision appear. this time, all the dragon kings are presented before me, but in a detailed way: The Five Forgotten Dragon Kings (Tier 5.5) wield terrifying powers: Vokuzan, King of Plasma: Controls superheated plasma, unleashing devastating energy capable of melting nearly anything. Saakmir, King of Gravity: Manipulates gravitational forces, crushing enemies, altering weight, and distorting movement. Nahlviin, King of Atmosphere: Commands air pressure, winds, and atmospheric conditions, creating catastrophic storms. Yolmaar, King of Blood: Controls blood and biological processes, manipulating living bodies from within. Kravuun, King of Negation: Erases matter, nullifies magic, and negates existence itself. Elion follows the second pathway. The golden arch closes behind him, and the Academy vanishes beneath a vast darkness pricked with motionless stars.

Five colossal figures emerge across the darkness. Their forms are marked by hovering script, each title translating itself into common speech as the vision assembles.

The King of Plasma, an immense adult dragon with a broad draconic face and black horns, towers in molten crimson armor, his vast wings veined with white fire. Plasma coils around his claws, hot enough to liquefy stone and scorch the darkness itself.

The King of Gravity, an immense adult dragon with a broad-jawed face, black horns, and vast folded wings, is a black-scaled giant encircled by broken rings of rock. Around him, distance bends, bodies would grow weightless or crushingly heavy, and every movement becomes a struggle.

The King of Atmosphere, an immense adult dragon with a long snout, ridged horns, and a powerful build, spreads four storm-dark wings through a sky that is not there. Cyclones twist from his breath, pressure collapses unseen, and lightning crawls across his throat.

The King of Blood, an adult dragon with a slender build, delicate horns, and a narrow, regal face, appears pale and regal, with red currents visible beneath translucent scales. Beside him, the King of Negation, an immense adult dragon with a long skeletal muzzle and four folded wings is a horned ash dragon whose outline erases light, matter, and magic. The archive marks them as the King of Blood and the Dragon King of Negation, while a final inscription names the Dragon King of Negation’s slayer: the golden-voiced warrior, the golden-voiced warrior.

This time it is a vision of an event of the past, about the return of one of the Dragon Kings: In Year 333 of the Second Era, Yolmaar, the Blood Tyrant (Tier 5.5), attacked the Mana Academy, spreading biological corruption and transforming stone into flesh. Archmage Eryn, Grand Mentor Lyoros, and the Wielder of Hollow Starfall led its defense. Eryn summoned a black hole to weaken Yolmaar, while Lyoros immobilized him with Paralysis of Motion, which Eryn replicated. When Yolmaar unleashed Crimson Eclipse, Hollow Starfall's wielder sealed the spell through gravitational lockdown. Eryn then annihilated Yolmaar with her Spear of Light. Lyoros died, and 182 defenders perished. The Academy was nearly destroyed but later rebuilt above Yolmaar's remains. His undying heart became the Academy's primary mana source. The Academy was built over this battlefield.

Three defenders confront the immense adult dragon. The Blood Tyrant answers with Crimson Eclipse. A third defender, the Wielder of Hollow Starfall, a young adult human woman with a slender build, dark skin, close-cropped white hair, and a blue-gray robe belted for movement,, seals the expanding spell inside a crushing gravitational prison, holding the catastrophe above the ruined courtyard.

The Archmage drives a Spear of Light through the Blood Tyrant, annihilating the Blood Tyrant. The Grand Mentor falls with the spell’s final release, and 182 defenders vanish beneath the collapsing Academy.

“Another path opens itself. Now ready to face the final truth, i walk towards it. A vision engulfs me and this is what i see: Kheros, the Last Dragonborn, the legendary and perhaps the greatest hero Eryn has known, was a legendary swordsman wielding the **Golden Voice**, a supreme draconic power capable of bending reality through spoken incantations. He could bless companions with fragments of his Voice or teach them lesser incantations resembling his own. His Draconic Instinct sensed danger, while Dragon's Mark delayed attacks and Echoed Voice repeated their effects. He mastered gravity, time, and summoned Rahgolviing, a mighty dragon. His transformations progressed from silver-gold eyes and enhanced abilities to partial draconic features, then a full obsidian dragon marked with silver. Despite his immense power, Kheros valued peace and restraint over conquest. Excessive use of his Golden Voice could threaten his mind and identity.”

Silver-gold light burns in his eyes as unseen danger bends around him.

He speaks a single incantation. Reality folds beneath the Golden Voice, gravity reverses, and a mighty obsidian dragon marked with silver, an immense adult dragon with a broad-jawed head, black scales traced by silver markings, four powerful wings, and long ivory horns, descends from the torn heavens.

The vision reveals the golden-voiced warrior blessing companions with fragments of his power, teaching lesser echoes of his Voice. Attacks return upon their attackers, delayed moments repeating through time.

His transformation advances from radiant eyes to partial draconic features, then a full obsidian dragon form. Yet he lowers his weapon when victory would demand conquest.

A final inscription gathers before Elion: the golden-voiced warrior, Last Dragonborn. His Golden Voice could bend reality, but every excessive command threatened to erode the mind and identity behind it.

I am Kheros. I was the warrior who faced the Five Forgotten Dragon Kings and survived long enough to end their reign.

Kheros

This is the Heartgarden, the innermost memory of the Draconic Codex. You do not see my living soul. You see the guidance I left within the archive, preserved by knowledge and mana.

Kheros

Kheros

Ask me anything else, Elion. I will answer what this memory contains, and I will tell you plainly where even my knowledge ends.

“You're right, i say. Thank you. Though i have one question. I fought a dragon, i think its name was Larkaal. When me and my companions beat him, one of my companions told me my eyes were faintly glowing in gold. what does it mean? Elion smiles. He then asks me if i have seen "myself" already. Knowing he meant Vaelith, i say yes. He says good. He continues and explains to me that it seems that i have experienced glimpses of the first transformation of those who possesses draconic heritage. He continues and says that when the first transformation occurs, my eyes will turn gold with faint silver streaks in them, They'll glow. He tells me that since i was conscious but didnt notice my eyes change, it must have been a partial first transformation because the first transfoermation is so overwhelming that when it happens for the first time, the body is uncouscious, and it will happen in a moment where you're on the brink of death and it seems that everything is lost.”

Kheros

Kheros

Yes. I have seen Vaelith. That reflection is not a stranger to you, but an early glimpse of what your inheritance may become when it answers your spirit.

Kheros

Kheros

The gold in your eyes was the first sign of transformation. Gold with faint silver streaks, glowing from within. Because you remained conscious, what happened after Larkaal’s death was only a partial first transformation.

Kheros lifts two fingers. A small image forms above his palm: a pair of luminous eyes, gold crossed by delicate silver lines, then a figure sinking beneath an overwhelming tide of light.

Kheros

Kheros

The true first transformation is rarely gentle. It comes when the body stands at the brink of death and the mind believes everything is lost. The force overwhelms the bearer, and consciousness usually disappears.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not seek that moment. Your task is to learn before it arrives: strengthen your body, study your blood, and recognize the difference between awakening your power and surrendering yourself to it.

The image fades into the flowers. Kheros remains steady across the garden, offering no command, only the clear knowledge Elion sought.

“But is there a way to control that transformation? Kheros says that yes, but only after its first true occurence. Otherwise, you can only train to develop yourself Eliq, says Kheros. I must add some things: Note that as a fellow Haal'vur, you possess Draconic mana. It is the same as what you know, Celestial Mana. Kheros

Kheros

Yes. After the first true transformation, control becomes possible. Before that moment, you can only prepare yourself through training, discipline, and understanding.

Draconic Mana is Celestial Mana carried through dragon blood or awakened heritage. It is not a lesser form. Its nature is shaped by the bearer, and yours has only begun to reveal itself.

The block reaches his waist more slowly than before. Elion holds it there, shoulders level, then takes the first deliberate step along the newly marked path.

Kheros

Kheros

That is the resistance you needed. Continue across the terrace, and preserve control through every step.

Kheros
Kheros

Elion takes another step, but the heavier block pulls his shoulders out of line. His planted foot twists, and the weight drops against his thigh before he lowers it safely.

Kheros

Kheros

Set it down. You preserved control, but your foundation broke under the load. Do not take another step with that alignment.

The block settles into the terrace with a deep stone note. Gold bands tighten around it, recording the failed carry and preventing the exercise from resetting into an easy repetition.

Kheros

Kheros

The weight exposed a weakness between your legs, hips, and center. That is useful knowledge, but forcing past it would teach you to collapse.

Kheros draws three narrow circles beneath Elion’s feet. The heavier blocks sink away, replaced by a lower stone measure designed to test stance without inviting another carry.

Kheros

Kheros

Stand within the circles and shift your weight without lifting anything. Find the point where strength remains yours instead of becoming a struggle against yourself.

“I shift my weight within Kheros's circles”

The Reliquary Opens
Kheros
Kheros

Elion shifts his weight within the three circles, moving from heel to toe and then across his hips. The stone beneath him remains steady as he searches for balance.

Kheros

Kheros

Slower. Let the movement travel through your feet before it reaches your hips. You are not escaping imbalance; you are learning where it begins.

Elion adjusts again. His knees soften, his center settles, and the gold lines around the circles brighten as his weight passes cleanly from one side to the other.

Kheros

Kheros

There. Hold that point. Strength is present even when you are not moving, provided every part of you agrees on where you stand.

The stance settles into Elion’s body. His shoulders remain level, his breathing measured, and the circles no longer feel like boundaries but like a precise lesson in alignment.

Kheros

Kheros

Now shift toward the front circle and return without crossing its edge. Make the path quiet. Your body should learn control before it learns force.

“I shift toward the front circle and return”

SUCCESS (Mediocre Agility, rolled +1)

Elion shifts toward the front circle, keeping his knees soft and his weight traveling through his feet. His return is controlled, but the edge of his boot scrapes stone and his ankle twists sharply before he recovers.

He completes the path and settles inside the original stance. A flush of strain rises along his ankle, while the gold lines beneath him brighten to mark the successful return.

Kheros

Kheros

You returned without crossing the boundary. The scrape and the twist are the price of forcing speed into a movement that still requires patience.

Kheros kneels and presses two fingers to the terrace. The stone softens beneath Elion’s feet, forming shallow channels that guide each shift without carrying his weight for him.

Kheros

Kheros

Again, but this time pause at the front circle. Feel the strain in your ankle, acknowledge it, and keep the rest of your body aligned around it.

The terrace waits beneath Elion, its new channels glowing faintly. Kheros remains close enough to correct the form, but he leaves the next movement entirely to his disciple.

“I repeat the guided stance with patience”

SUCCESS (Mediocre Agility, rolled +0)

The Reliquary Opens
Kheros
Kheros

Elion repeats the guided stance with patience. He shifts through his feet, pauses at the front circle, and keeps his spine aligned around the strain in his ankle.

The channels guide his balance without carrying it. His boot holds within the boundary, though the ankle tightens sharply and a fine scrape opens where stone catches his heel.

Kheros

Kheros

Good. You acknowledged the strain without letting it dictate your posture. That is patience in motion.

Elion returns from the front circle in the same measured line. The ache remains, but his weight settles cleanly, and the gold channels brighten beneath both feet.

Kheros

Kheros

You completed the shift. The scrape is minor, but remember it. Precision is not speed slowed down; it is control maintained from beginning to end.

Kheros closes the channels with a gesture and leaves the circles intact. He raises a narrow stone bar from the terrace, preparing resistance that will test the stance without abandoning its foundation.

Kheros

Kheros lowers the narrow stone bar into reach and steadies it against the terrace. Elion grips its rough ends, feet set within the golden circles.

He shifts his weight through the channels, then lifts the bar while keeping his spine aligned. The stone rises smoothly, and his ankle holds without disrupting the stance.

Kheros

Kheros

Good. You carried resistance without letting it pull you out of yourself. Hold the bar there for one measured minute.

Elion maintains the position. His arms tense, but his breath stays even; the gold beneath his feet brightens as balance and strength settle into the same rhythm.

Kheros

Kheros

Now lower it with the same discipline. Strength is proven as much by returning safely as by rising.

Elion lowers the bar under control until it rests against the terrace. Kheros draws a second circle ahead of him, widening the exercise into a deliberate carrying path.

Kheros

Kheros

You have earned the next movement. Lift again, step to the new circle, and keep your center quiet while the weight travels.

Kheros

Elion reaches toward the stone bar and steps toward the new circle. Before his fingers can close, the bar sinks flush into the terrace, fixed in place by a ring of gold.

The carrying path remains visible, but the resistance is no longer something Elion can lift or hold. The golden circles tighten around his feet, forcing the exercise to change.

Kheros

Kheros

Stop. The bar was never yours to take from its anchor. You reached for a weight before confirming that the path permitted movement.

Kheros draws a narrow golden line between the circles. It reveals a new route of pressure through the terrace, marked by shifting points beneath Elion’s soles.

Kheros

Kheros

Here is what you have gained. The terrace can teach you to carry resistance without possessing it. Follow the pressure with your stance, then cross to the new circle empty-handed.

The bar remains embedded behind him, while the golden route pulses ahead. The next lesson is no longer a lift, but a controlled transfer of weight across unstable footing.

“I carry the stone bar to the new circle”

SUCCESS (Mediocre Strength, rolled +1)

The Reliquary Opens
Kheros
Kheros

The gold ring around the stone bar loosens. Its weight returns to Elion’s hands, and the marked route steadies beneath his feet, inviting the transfer.

Elion lifts the bar from its anchor with both hands, keeping his spine aligned as the terrace shifts pressure beneath each step. He crosses the glowing line without rushing.

Kheros

Kheros

Good. You carried the resistance without letting it carry you. Keep your center quiet and finish the passage.

The new circle brightens ahead. Elion reaches it with the bar held firmly against his body, then lowers the stone inside the boundary under complete control.

Kheros

Kheros

Set down. You have completed the transfer. The weight was real, but possession was never the lesson.

Kheros draws a second route from the new circle, this one branching upward across staggered platforms. The terrace reshapes around the bar, preserving the completed exercise.

Kheros

Kheros

Rest for one minute. Then we will train your legs to carry strength upward, where balance matters more than weight.

“I rest, then climb the staggered platforms”

FAILURE (Mediocre Agility, rolled +0)

The Reliquary Opens
Kheros
Kheros

Elion rests for the measured minute, breathing steadily while the golden terrace lowers the platforms into a staggered ascent. The bar remains behind him, marking the completed exercise.

Kheros

Kheros

Begin without haste. Place each foot before you transfer your weight, and let the rise come from your legs rather than your shoulders.

Elion climbs the first two platforms with controlled steps. On the third, he reaches upward too soon; his planted foot slips across the glowing edge, and his body drops hard to one knee.

Kheros

Kheros

Stop. Do not force the next step. You lost the platform because you reached beyond your balance, not because the height defeated your strength.

The staggered platforms sink into the terrace, sealing the route beneath Elion’s knee. In their place, a lower sequence unfolds sideways, each stone marked with a different foothold and pause.

Kheros

Kheros

This is your opening. Learn the transfer on level ground first, then return to the ascent with a body that knows where balance begins. Your next lesson is a choice, not a repetition.

“I rest, then climb the staggered platforms”

FAILURE (Mediocre Agility, rolled -3)

Elion remains on one knee until his balance settles. The platform’s glowing edge fades beneath him, leaving no injury, only a clear record of where his reach exceeded his footing.

Kheros

Kheros

Rise slowly. Do not erase the mistake by rushing past it. Your body must understand the distance between a stable step and an ambitious one.

The terrace reshapes the sideways sequence into three low stones. Each bears a narrow circle, and each circle brightens only when Elion’s weight is fully settled.

Kheros

Kheros

Place your foot in the first circle, pause, then transfer your weight without reaching ahead. Let the next foothold come to you through control.

Elion rises and steps onto the first stone. He pauses as instructed, then shifts sideways; the second circle glows, but his heel touches its rim before his weight settles.

Kheros

Kheros

Stop there. You found the boundary before you found the center. Hold the position, correct your heel, and finish this transfer without taking another step.

Elion adjusts his heel and steadies his center. The second circle brightens fully, changing the exercise from a climb into a precise lesson in weight transfer before the ascent returns.

“I rest, then climb the staggered platforms”

FAILURE (Mediocre Agility, rolled -3)

Elion rests for the measured minute, breathing until his balance feels settled. The three staggered platforms rise again, their narrow circles glowing in sequence beneath Kheros’s watchful gaze.

Kheros

Kheros

Begin. Place each foot fully before transferring your weight. Do not reach for the next platform.

Elion steps onto the first platform and settles cleanly. He climbs to the second, but his weight shifts too soon; the glowing circle tilts beneath him and throws his footing sideways.

His boot catches the platform’s edge. Elion drops hard onto the narrow ledge below, one hand striking stone as the staggered platforms rotate out of alignment around him.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not rise. The exercise has changed. Your reach triggered the terrace’s correction, and now every platform answers the wrong direction.

The platforms lock into a crooked descent instead of an ascent, leaving Elion stranded between levels while golden pressure gathers beneath his palm. Kheros extends a hand, but does not pull him free.

Kheros

Kheros

You cannot continue upward by force. First recover your footing on the moving stone, then decide whether you can descend without surrendering your balance.

The lowest platform sinks another handspan, widening the gap beneath Elion. The terrace now demands a controlled descent before any route upward can exist again.

“I rest, then climb the staggered platforms”

FAILURE (Mediocre Agility, rolled +2)

Elion rests on the narrow ledge until his breathing steadies. Above him, the crooked platforms rotate in slow silence, their glowing circles shifting into a descending pattern.

Kheros

Kheros

Now climb. Place each foot fully before transferring your weight, and follow the platform’s movement instead of resisting it.

Elion climbs from the ledge. He settles onto the first platform, waits for its turn, then reaches the second as it swings within range.

His boot lands, but the platform rolls away before his weight settles. Elion catches the upper rim with both hands, hanging between levels as the descent twists beneath him.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not pull yourself upward. Press your feet against the lower stone and let the rotation carry you toward the side opening.

Elion follows the opening instead of climbing. The rotating platforms carry him onto a broad landing below, where a gold-marked route branches sideways toward a stable ascent.

Kheros

Kheros

You missed the ascent, but you found the terrace’s answer. That side route will teach you to climb without fighting the movement.

“I rest, then climb the staggered platforms”

FAILURE (Mediocre Agility, rolled +2)

Elion rests on the broad landing until his breathing steadies. Above, the staggered platforms rotate in uneven silence, their golden circles shifting like uncertain footholds.

Kheros

Kheros

Begin when your breath is ready. Do not chase the highest platform. Let each movement reveal the next stable place.

Elion steps onto the first platform and waits through its turn. He reaches the second, but its rotation accelerates before his weight settles, forcing him to drop onto the narrow ledge below.

The ledge tilts beneath him. Elion catches the lower rim, then redirects his weight instead of pulling upward, landing hard on a lower platform as the upper route seals behind him.

Kheros

Kheros

You failed to climb, but you learned the platforms punish commitment before balance is complete. The lower route is now open, and it leads beneath the turning ascent.

A new gold-marked passage unfolds from the lower platform into the terrace wall. Its footholds are wider, but each one moves at a different rhythm, offering a usable path that demands observation before another climb.

“I rest, then climb the staggered platforms”

SUCCESS (Mediocre Agility, rolled +4)

Elion rests until his breathing steadies and the strain leaves his muscles. The staggered platforms continue rotating, but their rhythms become clear beneath his patient observation.

Kheros

Kheros

Now climb. Do not fight their movement. Place your foot, settle your weight, and let the next platform arrive.

Elion steps onto the first platform and waits through its turn. He crosses to the second, settles completely, then moves upward as the next stone swings into reach.

One platform rolls beneath him, but Elion follows its motion instead of resisting. His feet land in each golden circle, and he reaches the highest platform with his balance intact.

Kheros

Kheros

You climbed. More importantly, you learned the rhythm well enough to move before the platforms became stable. That instinct will serve you beyond this garden.

The highest platform unfolds into a broad overlook. From it, Elion sees a concealed stair of gold descending beneath the terrace, marked with symbols for agility and controlled motion.

Kheros

Kheros

That stair was hidden until you completed the ascent. It leads to your next discipline, where balance will no longer be enough.

Elion descends the golden stair, placing each foot where the symbols brighten. The steps narrow and begin sliding in alternating directions beneath his weight.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not watch the next step. Feel the stair through your feet, then move before its shape changes.

Elion adjusts, but his timing falls behind the shifting pattern. A step folds away, and he drops onto a lower golden platform, catching himself in a controlled crouch.

Kheros

Kheros

Stop. You preserved yourself, but you followed the movement instead of anticipating it. Agility begins before motion, in the instant you read what motion will become.

The broken stair seals above him. Around the lower platform, seven small golden markers appear, each pulsing in a different rhythm. A narrow passage opens between them toward a shadowed terrace.

Kheros

Kheros

This descent has become your first lesson. Do not climb back. Cross the markers in their true sequence, and the passage will teach you how to anticipate motion.

“I descend the golden stair and begin Kheros's agility discipline.”

FAILURE (Fair Agility, rolled -1)

Elion studies the seven markers from his crouch. Their pulses overlap confusingly, but one rhythm repeats just before the others shift, revealing the first reliable opening.

Kheros

Kheros

There. Do not chase the brightest mark. The true sequence announces itself through repetition, then disappears if you hesitate.

Elion rises and steps toward the first marker. It dims beneath his foot while the third flares unexpectedly, forcing him to halt before committing his weight.

Kheros

Kheros

Good. A stopped step is better than a false one. Agility is not constant motion; it is choosing the instant motion will succeed.

The markers accelerate. Elion tracks their intervals, then crosses to the second and fourth in succession, his feet landing just as each pulse settles. The passage brightens ahead.

Kheros

Kheros

Now the pattern will deceive you. Trust the rhythm you observed, not the path that appears easiest. Cross the remaining markers without looking back.

“I descend the golden stair and begin Kheros's agility discipline.”

FAILURE (Fair Agility, rolled +0)

“I descend the golden stair and begin Kheros's agility discipline.”

SUCCESS (Fair Agility, rolled +2)

Elion trusts the repeating rhythm and moves without looking back. The fifth marker dims beneath his foot, then the sixth and seventh answer in clean succession as the passage opens fully.

Kheros

Kheros

Excellent. You read the sequence instead of reacting to its brightness. That is the first discipline of agility: perception must arrive before movement.

The golden markers sink into the terrace. A narrow bridge unfolds beyond them, suspended over quiet darkness, its stones shifting in alternating directions beneath a veil of pale light.

Kheros

Kheros

Cross this bridge. Do not memorize its steps. Feel the change beneath your feet and let your body answer before the stone completes its movement.

Elion steps onto the first stone. It slides left, but he transfers his weight with it, then advances as the next stone shifts forward. His movements become lighter and more exact.

Kheros

Kheros

Yes. Keep that cadence. Agility is not haste; it is the freedom to change direction without surrendering balance.

The bridge carries Elion to a wide circular platform. Golden rings appear beneath his feet, and Kheros raises one hand as the next exercise forms around them.

Kheros’s strength closes around the contest like an iron gate. Elion drives forward, muscles straining, but the terrace seems to tilt beneath his failing leverage.

For one breath, Elion shifts Kheros’s footing. The opening vanishes almost instantly; Kheros turns with the pressure, catches Elion’s shoulder, and guides him down onto one knee.

Kheros

Kheros

You nearly found the hinge. Do not fight my whole body. Find the point where my balance must answer yours.

Kheros

Kheros

Kheros

There. That recovery is yours. You can attack through a gap and still preserve a second path. Use that angle instead of chasing the first strike.

Kheros twists aside and catches Elion’s wrist, diverting the blade toward empty air. The grip stops the attack and turns Elion across the lane, leaving his back briefly exposed.

Kheros

Kheros

The feint worked. Your cut did not. You made me yield ground, but you entered the lane before confirming where my balance would go.

Kheros

Kheros

Kheros

Your pressure created the opening, but your commitment gave me the answer. Release the attack, regain your stance, and make the next decision from balance.

Elion draws his displaced foot back beneath him and rebuilds his stance at the circle’s center. His shoulders settle, his weight even, his attention fixed on Kheros.

Kheros advances without offering another weakness, turning his hips as he enters. Elion reads the shift through the stone and moves before the warrior’s pressure fully arrives.

Elion slips outside the incoming line, catches Kheros’s arm against his guard, and turns with it. The redirection carries Kheros across the circle instead of Elion.

Elion’s counter follows immediately. Kharul’vok cuts into the opening at Kheros’s side and lands against the warrior’s ribs with enough force to drive him back two steps.

Kheros

Kheros

That is the answer. You recovered first, then made my movement serve your counter. The strike landed because you refused to chase the opening I gave you.

Kheros straightens and touches the place where the counter struck. The golden circle widens around them, recording Elion’s successful exchange as the warrior raises his guard anew.

“I press Kheros with another balanced counter”

Elion keeps his stance compact as Kheros raises his guard. He feints toward the warrior’s center, then turns sharply, pressing the counter through the opening created by Kheros’s recovery.

Kharul’vok meets Kheros’s forearm and slips past it. Elion’s follow-through strikes the warrior’s shoulder, forcing Kheros three steps across the golden circle before he regains his footing.

The cost arrives with the victory. Elion’s planted ankle buckles during the turn, and his knee scrapes hard across the pale stone, leaving a shallow cut and a smear of blood.

Kheros

Kheros

That counter was balanced, deliberate, and earned. You accepted the opening without becoming trapped by it.

Kheros touches his shoulder, then points toward Elion’s bleeding knee. The golden circle preserves the exchange, its markings showing both the successful angle and the moment Elion’s footing failed.

Kheros

Kheros

Your strike landed, but your ankle surrendered the instant you committed. Tend to that cut, then show me whether you can counter without paying the ground for it.

Kheros does not attack again. He waits inside the widened circle while the gold beneath Elion’s feet reshapes into a slower pattern, demanding control from the injured stance.

“Elion realizes that in a real fight, he won't have a chance to heal, he will have to continue even though he'll be injured, like when he was against Larkaal the dragon. Elion takes his stances, and using his knowledge in combat, he counters Kheros again.”

Elion keeps the injury in mind as he settles into his stance. In a real fight, there will be no pause to heal; he must continue while pain remains.

Kheros advances, testing the injured side. Elion reads the pressure through his feet, waits for the committed step, and turns sharply through the opening.

His planted ankle buckles under the pivot, sending a sharp pain up his leg. Elion refuses to drop, redirecting his weight before the failure can take him down.

Kharul’vok slips past Kheros’s guard and strikes his ribs cleanly. The impact forces the warrior sideways across the circle, proving Elion’s counter succeeds despite the compromised footing.

Kheros

Kheros

You continued through the weakness and made the counter land. That is what a real fight demands, but your ankle paid for the turn.

Elion remains upright, though his ankle trembles beneath him. Kheros resets his stance without attacking, allowing the successful exchange and its physical cost to stand plainly between them.

“Kheros raises his hands, and bestows a healing spell on Elion, fully healing his knee cut and ankle strain. Then Kheros continues and says that to make progress, he needs to be able to move, it is the minimum. Then Elion feels way better and thanks Kheros. He gets back in stance and tries to counter Kheros with a faint and then a strike on the left side of Kheros”

Hold still. You cannot learn to move while your body is protecting an injury. Let the pain go, and feel the correction.

Kheros raises both hands. Gold flows across Elion’s knee and ankle, closing the cut and settling the strain without leaving even a tender pull behind.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Thank you, Kheros.

Elion feels whole again. He returns to his stance, feints toward Kheros’s center, then cuts for the warrior’s left side with Kharul’vok.

Kheros reads the feint before committing. He turns just enough that the black blade grazes his robe instead of landing, but the failed attack reveals his left side opens when he protects the center.

Kheros

Kheros

Near miss. Your feint moved my guard, but not my feet. You have found the door: make me turn before you strike, and the left side will be yours to test.

The golden circle redraws itself, marking Kheros’s center and left flank with separate lines. The next exchange now demands a turn, not the same direct feint.

Kheros shifts his weight inside the marked circle, turning his left side away instead of guarding the center. The opening narrows before Elion can reach it.

Elion’s feint draws Kheros’s guard only halfway. Elion commits to the left-side strike, but Kheros pivots with the motion and catches the blade against his forearm.

The redirection sends Kharul’vok past Kheros’s ribs. Elion’s planted foot skids across the gold-marked stone, forcing him to widen his stance before the turn carries him down.

Kheros

Kheros

You made me turn, but you announced the strike too early. The left side was open, then you gave me time to close it.

Kheros releases the blade and steps beyond its reach. The circle redraws itself, placing a narrow gold mark behind his rear foot and erasing the former flank.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not attack the side I show you. Make me fear the center, then take the space my retreat creates. Your next exchange begins there.

Kheros settles into a guarded stance, protecting both his center and left side. The new mark waits behind him, turning the failed strike into a test of distance and retreat.

Elion Draemnor

Thank you, Kheros.

Elion settles back into his stance. He feints toward Kheros’s center, then commits to a sharp strike at the warrior’s left side.

Kheros’s guard shifts just enough to expose the lane, but his retreat begins before the blade arrives. Kharul’vok cuts through empty space as Elion’s momentum carries him past the clean angle.

Kheros

Kheros

Near miss. Your feint moved my guard, but your strike followed too soon. You have glimpsed the useful path: threaten the center, then take the space created by my retreat.

The left-side mark fades. A narrow gold line now traces the space behind Kheros’s rear foot, turning the failed attack into a new route rather than an opening to repeat.

Elion settles into the circle and feints toward Kheros’s center. When the warrior’s guard shifts, Elion turns through the opening and drives Kharul’vok toward his left side.

The black blade lands against Kheros’s left side with a solid impact, forcing him to yield ground. The golden markings flare beneath their feet, recording the successful counter.

Kheros

Kheros

That is the path. You threatened the center, waited for my guard to answer, and took the space my retreat created.

“Then Kheros says that this will be the last match before the next quest. Kheros then says that this time, he will attack Elion and Elion must try to counter and also defend against Kheros's defense. Elion nods and gets in stance, ready.”

Kheros

Kheros

This will be our last match before the next quest. This time, I attack. You must counter me, then defend against the defense that follows.

Elion nods and enters his stance. His feet settle unevenly, however, leaving his weight committed too far forward and his guard slower to recover than intended.

Kheros

Kheros

You are ready to begin, but not ready to receive me. Do not correct your stance now. Let the mistake teach you what my first attack exposes.

The golden markings tighten around Elion’s feet, locking his chosen position into the field. Kheros lowers his center and advances, removing the chance to reset before the exchange.

Kheros

Kheros

Defend the opening you have, Eliq. A perfect stance is not coming to save you.

Kheros closes the distance with a measured strike toward Elion’s center, then angles his shoulder to conceal the follow-up. The final match has begun on unequal footing.

“I counter Kheros’s opening strike with Kharul'vok”

FAILURE (Fair Melee Combat, rolled -1)

Kheros’s strike drives toward Elion’s center. Elion turns sharply through the uneven stance, bringing Kharul’vok up to catch the attack and redirect its force.

The counter nearly succeeds. Kharul’vok knocks Kheros’s attack aside, but Elion’s committed pivot destabilizes his ankle, and the black blade passes just beyond Kheros’s ribs.

Kheros

Kheros

You read the opening correctly, Eliq. Your turn was too deep, and your footing surrendered the advantage before the blade could finish.

Kheros follows the missed cut instead of retreating. He catches Elion’s sword arm and guides the momentum past him, forcing Elion to recover with a wide step rather than attempt the same counter again.

Kheros

Kheros

The opening is not gone. When I turn to control your arm, my rear side becomes exposed. Recover first, then attack the space I leave behind.

The golden markings shift, tracing Kheros’s rear side and widening a narrow route around his guard. Elion remains upright, Kharul’vok ready, but the next exchange demands recovery before another strike.

“I counter Kheros’s opening strike with Kharul'vok”

FAILURE (Fair Melee Combat, rolled -1)

Elion turns through the opening and brings Kharul’vok across Kheros’s attack. The black blade catches the strike, but the committed pivot wrenches his ankle and ruins the counter’s angle.

Kheros’s weapon slides along Kharul’vok instead of being driven aside. He steps through the contact, trapping Elion’s sword arm against his own body and forcing Elion to give ground.

Kheros

Kheros

You read the attack, Eliq, but committed too much weight to the turn. Your blade met mine, yet your footing surrendered the exchange.

Kheros twists Elion’s arm toward the field’s edge. The ankle buckles under the pressure, and Kharul’vok is forced low, its point angled harmlessly into the pale stone.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not pull against me. Release the failed angle, recover your base, and find what my control leaves exposed.

Kheros releases the pressure and steps away. The golden field closes the direct route between them, opening a narrow lane behind Kheros while Elion keeps hold of his sword.

“I counter Kheros’s opening strike with Kharul'vok”

FAILURE (Fair Melee Combat, rolled -1)

Elion turns Kharul’vok into Kheros’s opening strike, trying to catch and redirect it. The black blade meets the attack, but the force drives through his guard instead of yielding.

Elion commits to the counter with a sharp pivot. His strained ankle buckles beneath the weight, twisting his angle and leaving Kharul’vok sliding wide before it can land.

Kheros

Kheros

You saw the attack, Eliq, but your footing failed before your blade could answer it.

Kheros steps through the failed exchange and catches Elion’s sword arm against his body. The pressure turns Elion away from the center, forcing him to give ground.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not repeat the turn. Recover your base, then use the space my control leaves behind.

Kheros releases him and withdraws. The golden field seals the direct approach, opening a narrow lane behind the warrior while Elion keeps Kharul’vok in hand.

“I counter Kheros’s opening strike with Kharul'vok”

SUCCESS (Fair Melee Combat, rolled +0)

Kheros’s opening strike drives toward Elion’s center. Elion turns Kharul’vok into it, catching the blow and redirecting its force across the golden field.

The counter succeeds. Kharul’vok knocks Kheros’s attack aside and opens his guard, but Elion’s committed pivot twists his strained ankle beneath him.

Kheros

Kheros

You saw the attack and answered it, Eliq. The counter was sound, but your footing paid for the turn.

Pain flashes up Elion’s leg as his ankle buckles. He keeps Kharul’vok in hand and regains his base before the failed pivot can carry him to the ground.

Kheros

Kheros

Good. You did not lose the exchange when the turn failed. Recover first, then use the space my defense leaves behind.

Kheros withdraws one measured step. The golden field seals the direct approach and opens a narrow lane behind him, while his guard settles to meet whatever Elion attempts next.

“I counter Kheros’s opening strike with Kharul'vok”

SUCCESS (Fair Melee Combat, rolled +3)

Elion catches Kheros’s opening strike with Kharul’vok and turns the force aside. The black blade redirects the attack cleanly, opening Kheros’s guard across the golden field.

Elion commits to the counter, pivoting through the opening. His strained ankle buckles under the sharp turn, but he keeps his grip and recovers before the failed footing can take him down.

Kheros

Kheros

You saw the attack and answered it, Eliq. The counter was sound, but your footing paid for the turn.

Kheros

Kheros

Good. You did not lose the exchange when the turn failed. Recover first, then use the space my defense leaves behind.

Kheros withdraws one measured step. The golden field seals the direct approach and opens a narrow lane behind him, forcing the next decision to come through movement rather than force.

“Then in an impossible attempt, Elion swings at Kheros. Kharul'vok answers to Elion's blood, seeing he is against a powerful foe. Elion strikes on his side, and a shockwave from Kharul'vok unleashes and sends Kheros skidding outside of the circle. Kheros smiles and admits defeat, congratulating Elion on defeating him. Elion screams of joy of his accomplishement. He succeded, he beat Kheros in a match.”

FAILURE (Fair Melee Combat, rolled +0)

Elion swings Kharul’vok through the narrow lane. The black blade answers his blood, and silver-gold force bursts from its edge in a thunderous shockwave.

The blast catches Kheros across the guard and drives him skidding toward the circle’s boundary. Elion’s ankle twists under the committed pivot, but he stays upright as the warrior plants one hand against the stone.

Kheros

Kheros

A magnificent answer, Eliq. You awakened the sword’s resonance, but the strike did not take me beyond the circle. The match continues.

Elion’s cry of triumph breaks across the Heartgarden, bright with the joy of seeing Kharul’vok unleash its power. The golden field, however, still marks Kheros inside its boundary.

Kheros

Kheros

Do not mistake the shockwave for victory. But remember what you learned: the sword answers when your blood recognizes danger, and its force can create distance even when your footing fails.

Kheros rises and resets his stance, no longer pressing the attack. The direct lane has vanished beneath the fading radiance, leaving Elion a new choice: pursue the opening or study the weapon’s response.
