Warnings Beneath the Quiet Inn
Saadia
Saadia

The inn remains hushed around Elion and Saadia. His shoulder is fully recovered beneath its uncovered shirt while the worn road book lies open between them, its blue marker resting on the waystation note.

Beren Holt enters with a wooden tray and sets two cups of water beside the book. In the adjoining room, Lydia checks her sword and shield while Lioran sorts the party’s packs.

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

Quietly, now. Several travelers asked about Karof over the past month. None of them returned to this inn.

Saadia

Saadia

Did they leave by the eastern bypass, or did they take the higher trail toward the ruined caravan road?

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

I cannot say. One group hired a guide beyond the stream, and another left before dawn. The road kept their answers from returning.

Beren withdraws toward the stairs. Through the thin adjoining wall, Lydia’s shield buckle clicks shut and Lioran lowers his voice, preparing the companions for an early departure.

Saadia

Saadia

The warning makes the waystation more important, not less. We should learn what happened before we place everyone on that road.

✓ Quest Accepted

Determine whether the waystation is safe for the group

“Can we reach the waystation without committing to the eastern bypass?”

Beren pauses at the stair, then glances back toward the open road book. His weathered expression tightens with recognition before he returns to the room.

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

Yes. You can reach the waystation without taking either road. Follow the stream past the last cottages, then use the old mill path. It joins the waystation from behind.

Saadia turns the book toward Beren. His finger traces a faint line hidden beneath the newer ink, stopping at a small square beyond the stream.

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

More than that, I still have the waystation key. Its rear door has not been used since the last keeper vanished, but the lock should hold.

Saadia

Saadia

Then we can inspect the waystation before choosing the bypass. We learn what happened there without placing Lydia or Lioran on the dangerous road.

Behind the thin wall, Lydia’s equipment falls silent and Lioran stops sorting the packs. Beren removes a dark iron key from his belt and sets it beside the blue marker.

“Would that be all the information we need?”

Would that be all the information we need?

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

Enough to reach the waystation, perhaps. Not enough to trust what waits inside. I never saw the vanished keeper leave, and I cannot tell you who last held that key.

The innkeeper turns the dark iron key in his palm. A pale crust clings inside its teeth, and a faint odor of river mud rises from the old metal.

Saadia

Saadia

Then our question has changed. We can reach the waystation, but we cannot assume the key proves it is safe. We should inspect the entrance before anyone crosses the threshold.

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

There is another detail. The rear door opens beneath the old mill’s grain chute. If the key fails, the chute’s maintenance ladder reaches a shutter above the storeroom.

Behind the wall, Lydia’s sword belt creaks as she rises, and Lioran quietly closes the packs. The waystation is no longer merely a destination, but a place with two possible entrances.

Saadia

Saadia

That is enough to choose our next step, not enough to choose the road beyond it. We inspect the waystation first, then decide whether the bypass deserves our trust.

“Then it is decided Saadia. Let’s take some rest and in the morning, let’s head to the waystation. Let us take ourselves to the bedroom”

Then it is decided, Saadia. Let us rest, and in the morning we will head to the waystation. Let us return to the bedroom.

Saadia closes the road book and lifts the iron key from the table. Elion follows her upstairs, while Lydia and Lioran finish securing the adjoining room for the night.

Saadia

Saadia

Sleep while we can. At first light, we inspect the waystation together and leave nothing unexplored before choosing the road beyond it.

The inn settles into silence. Beyond the shuttered windows, rain swells the stream through the night, drumming against the roof until dawn turns the clouds silver.

At breakfast, Beren Holt arrives with an anxious face and mud on his boots. The old mill path has flooded, and part of its bank has collapsed beneath the grain chute.

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

You cannot reach the waystation from behind the mill today. The stream is too high, and the maintenance ladder is buried under the fallen timber.

Saadia

Saadia

Then our departure is delayed. We will inspect the damage from a safe distance, learn whether another approach remains, and keep the others out of the water.

✓ Quest Accepted

Reach the waystation

FAILURE (Mediocre Agility, rolled -2)

Saadia
Saadia

Morning rain has swollen the stream beyond its banks. From the inn’s edge, Elion can see the old mill path buried beneath brown water and broken timber, with no safe crossing toward the waystation.

Beren Holt

Beren Holt

The bank gave way before dawn. Anyone trying to cross would be pulled into the millrace. We must wait for the water to fall, or find another approach.

Saadia

Saadia

Then we do not force the crossing. We can study the waystation from this side, search the streambank for a safer route, and learn whether the collapse exposed anything useful.

Lydia steps beneath the inn’s awning with her sword secured and shield ready, while Lioran follows carrying the travel supplies. Both stop when they see the flooded path.

Lydia

Lydia

We can inspect from dry ground, but nobody approaches the broken bank. If the waystation is compromised, we return here before dusk.

Lioran

Lioran

I will bring the medicines and rope. The flood may have changed the path, but it has not made caution unnecessary. We should learn what we can without entering the water.

Then it is decided, Saadia. Let us rest, and in the morning we will head to the waystation. Let us return to the bedroom.

Saadia nods and gathers the road book and iron key. Elion turns from the flooded stream with the others, leaving the ruined mill path for safer shelter.

Saadia

Saadia

Agreed. We will inspect the waystation at first light, but tonight we remain together and dry.

Lydia leads them beneath the awning while Lioran carries the medicines and rope inside. Beren watches from the doorway, then closes it against the rain.

Lydia

Lydia

Get some sleep, Elion. We can study the flood again when the weather settles.

Upstairs, Saadia places the key beside the closed book. Elion enters the bedroom with her, and the adjoining room grows quiet as Lydia and Lioran settle in next door.

The rain drums steadily over the inn. With the waystation chosen as tomorrow’s destination, the companions rest behind dry walls while the swollen stream rushes through the dark.

“As we install ourselves back into the bedroom, i ask Saadia if i can ask her a question.”

SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled +0)

Back in the bedroom, Saadia sets the road book and iron key on the bedside table. Rain mutters against the shutters while Lydia and Lioran settle quietly beyond the adjoining wall.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Saadia, may I ask you a question?

She pauses with one hand resting on the closed book. The simple request draws her attention fully from the rain and the distant sounds of the inn.

Saadia

Saadia

Of course. Ask me what you need to ask.

The permission is given, but the delay has cost the evening’s quietest stretch. The rain has strengthened, and the inn below has begun closing its common room.

Saadia

Saadia

Whatever troubles you, say it plainly. I would rather answer you honestly than let the question grow in silence.

“I worry a bit for you. Are you afraid? You’re very cautious about this whole thing, but deep down, i feel like you’re afraid of something. Am i wrong?”

Elion Draemnor

I worry about you. Are you afraid? You have been so cautious about this, and I feel there is something beneath it. Am I wrong?

Saadia’s guarded expression falters. She looks toward the rain-dark shutters, then back to Elion, choosing honesty over the safer answer.

Saadia

Saadia

No. You are not wrong. I am afraid, Elion. Not of the flooded path, or even of what might be waiting at the waystation.

Saadia

Saadia

I fear what the sealed object may reveal when we understand it. I fear that its danger is tied to me, and that helping you could place all of you within its reach.

Her admission gives the caution a shape: not cowardice, but knowledge withheld because she does not yet understand the object’s connection to her. Below, the common room finishes closing.

Saadia

Saadia

I should have told you sooner. I do not know whether I am being pursued by its danger, drawn toward it, or both. But I will not hide that uncertainty from you again.

The answer leaves no time tonight to question the inn’s remaining travelers; the common room is silent now. Saadia reaches for the road book, her fear spoken but not dismissed.

“Before she can reach the book, i gently grab her hand. Being taller than her, i kneel before her and look at her straight in the eyes. Saadia, let’s talk this through, you don’t need to be afraid. Who’s after you and what sealed object are you talking about? I say gently”

SUCCESS (Good Reasoning, rolled +1)

Before Saadia can reach the book, Elion gently takes her hand. He kneels before her, meeting her eyes as rain whispers against the shutters.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Saadia, let’s talk this through. You don’t need to be afraid. Who’s after you, and what sealed object are you talking about?

Saadia

Saadia

The one following me is Kareth Voss, a blood-hunter. He tracks the archive signal, and he believes I am protecting what was sealed.

Saadia does not pull away. Her fingers remain within Elion’s, and the guarded distance in her posture loosens as she finally gives the danger a name.

Saadia

Saadia

The object is an ancient sealed archive, older than the kingdoms that now divide Eryn. I found its trail among records from my family’s fallen estate.

Saadia

Saadia

I do not know what lies inside, or why its signal follows me. But Kareth will keep hunting until he reaches it, and anyone beside me may be treated as its protector.

The confession settles between them without breaking the quiet. Saadia lowers herself beside the bed, still holding Elion’s hand, while the sealed archive’s mystery becomes shared knowledge at last.

“Touched by what she’s revealed, i gently embrace her in my arms. Even though my injury aches, it is nothing compared to the stress she must go through, i think. Saadia, i say gently, now be honest with me. For how long this Kareth Voss has been chasing you, how powerful is he, and do you have any leads on this sealed object? And why are you necessary for this sealed object? Does he think you know how to open it? Again, do not be afraid, i’m here for you, as i embrace her tighter”

SUCCESS (Great Reasoning, rolled +1)

Elion embraces Saadia gently, then holds her closer. She stiffens for a breath before relaxing against him, her hands gripping the back of his shirt.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Saadia, be honest with me. How long has Kareth Voss been chasing you, how powerful is he, and do you have any leads on the sealed archive? Why are you necessary to it? Does he think you know how to open it? Do not be afraid. I am here for you.

Saadia breathes slowly within his arms. The rain softens beyond the shutters, and when she raises her face, uncertainty has given way to a careful, resolved honesty.

Saadia

Saadia

Kareth has followed me for six months, since I found the first record beneath my family’s ruined estate. He is not merely a skilled tracker. He has blood-magic training, and he can sense the archive’s signal through distance and concealment.

Saadia

Saadia

I have three leads. The first is the record that named the archive. The second is a crest from my family’s vault, matching the seal described in older accounts. The third is the waystation’s connection to a forgotten route used by archivists.

Saadia

Saadia

He believes my bloodline is part of the lock. My ancestors may have carried the knowledge needed to open it, but I do not know the rite, and I have never opened the seal. That is why he considers me necessary.

Saadia presses her forehead lightly against Elion’s shoulder, no longer hiding the danger or her uncertainty. Her answer gives the archive a trail, a reason for the pursuit, and a clearer threat.

“Blood magic? But generally those who use this type of magic are vampires and/or possess Blood Mana. Is he…? Is he a vampire? If he’s one, that means it’s gonna be even more troublesome… If someone as skilled as you Saadia is telling me he’s no joke, it means we must watch out. I’ll train to protect you Saadia. I embrace her tighter and i thank her for telling me everything”

SUCCESS (Great Reasoning, rolled -1)

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Blood magic is usually tied to vampires or Blood Mana. Is Kareth Voss a vampire? If someone as skilled as you says he is no joke, we must watch him carefully. I will train to protect you, Saadia. Thank you for telling me everything.

Elion embraces Saadia more tightly, his thanks carried in the gesture as much as in his words. She rests against him, but her expression remains grave.

Saadia

Saadia

No, Kareth is not a vampire. He is a living man with Blood Mana training, taught to shape a person’s blood as a weapon and to follow what it remembers.

Saadia

Saadia

That distinction does not make him safer. A vampire may have instincts and limits we understand. Kareth has discipline, assignments, and a purpose that keeps him moving when fear would stop another hunter.

Saadia’s arms tighten around Elion. His question has earned a clear answer, but the discussion costs the remaining quiet of the night; the group will have less time to rest before dawn.

Saadia

Saadia

I believe you will grow stronger, but do not train from fear alone. Protecting me means learning when to stand between danger and the group, and when to keep us beyond its reach.

She lifts her face, her guardedness softened by his reassurance. The sealed archive remains uncertain, yet Kareth’s nature is no longer a mystery between them.

Elion tightens his embrace around Saadia and thanks her for telling him everything. She accepts the gesture, but the tension in her shoulders does not fully ease.

Saadia

Saadia

No. Kareth Voss is a living man, not a vampire. His Blood Mana is trained, deliberate, and dangerous precisely because he does not rely on instinct.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Saadia rests against him for another breath, then gently places both hands against his chest. Her expression softens, though her fear remains too solid to be quieted by reassurance alone.

Saadia

Saadia

I believe you want to protect me. But training from fear will not prepare you for Kareth. We need discipline, distance, and a plan that protects the whole group.

Saadia

I believe you want to protect me. But training from fear will not prepare you for Kareth. We need discipline, distance, and a plan for the whole group.

Saadia

Saadia

Your question uncovered something useful: Kareth’s Blood Mana cannot follow the archive signal through running water. The flooded stream gives us a safer path to study the waystation.

“I must question you before on a crucial matter Saadia. A relative of mine is the Grand Mentor of the Mana Academy, Orythiel Draemnor. So i learned a lot about mana and magical stuff. Mana conduits cannot be learned or thaught by the exception of restorative mana. So i need you to think carefully, was he born with the blood mana? Or is he an hybrid? Or is it something else entirely?”

SUCCESS (Fair Arcana, rolled +0)

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

I must question you on a crucial matter, Saadia. My relative Orythiel Draemnor is the Grand Mentor of the Mana Academy, so I know conduits cannot simply be learned. Was Kareth born with Blood Mana, is he a hybrid, or is it something else entirely?

Saadia grows still. Her hands remain against Elion’s chest, but her attention turns inward, weighing what she knows against the rules of mana he has invoked.

Saadia

Saadia

You are right to challenge that assumption. Kareth is not a hybrid, and he did not learn Blood Mana as someone might learn a craft. His records describe him as born with the conduit.

Saadia

Saadia

His training refined its control, range, and ability to follow the archive signal. The discipline is learned. The conduit itself is not. That is why his power is deliberate without violating the law you described.

The answer settles the contradiction, but recalling the arcane structure leaves a sharp pressure behind Elion’s eyes. Saadia notices his brief pause and steadies him by the shoulders.

Saadia

Saadia

The cost of understanding this is clear enough: Kareth was born dangerous, then made precise through years of practice. We should treat his skill as deliberate, not improvised.

“So he is not a vampire but he has blood mana? That is so rare… Saadia, i say while looking her straight in the eyes, still embracing her, Thank you for telling me all this. You can trust me, i want you to know that. I care for you and i want you to know that. Even though we’ve not known for very long, i hold you dearly within my heart. I don’t know why i’m saying all of this but i wanted you to know… i say now shy”

Still holding Saadia, Elion meets her eyes until the last words leave him. His practiced composure falters afterward, and the hesitation shows in his lowered gaze.

Saadia

Saadia

You are saying it because you mean it. That is enough. And yes, Blood Mana is rare, but your trust is rarer to me than Kareth’s conduit.

Saadia’s hands rise to either side of Elion’s face. Her expression softens, and the fear she has carried since naming Kareth no longer keeps her at a distance.

Saadia

Saadia

I trust you, Elion. I care for you too, more than I expected to care for anyone again. You do not need to be ashamed of telling me.

The admission steadies the room, though Elion’s strained composure leaves him briefly quiet and uncertain what to do with the tenderness returned to him. Rain continues beyond the shutters.

Saadia

Then let me answer you plainly. I trust you, Elion, and I care for you more deeply than I expected. You do not need to hide behind uncertainty now.

She rests her forehead against his and closes her eyes. The warmth of her breath replaces the chill that had lingered between them since Kareth’s name entered the room.

Saadia

Saadia

Whatever comes at the waystation, I will face it beside you. Not because you promised to protect me, but because I choose to remain with you.

Saadia draws back only far enough to meet his eyes. Her fear has not vanished, but it no longer stands alone; trust now shares the room with it.

Saadia

Saadia

Sleep, Elion. At dawn we will study the flooded path and decide how to reach the waystation safely. Tonight, let this be enough.

She squeezes his hand once before releasing it, then places the iron key beside the road book. The room grows quiet around them, no longer burdened by what remained unspoken.

Saadia

Saadia

You need not apologize. But not again tonight, Elion. If I hold you now, I fear I will forget the rest we both need.

Sleep takes him without struggle. The inn stays quiet around them, and dawn remains safely beyond the rain-dark shutters.

Vaelith

Vaelith

Be well, Haal’vur.

Vaelith smiles, and the dragon’s golden eyes become the last thing Elion sees. He wakes in the inn bed, drenched in sweat as though he has lain beneath a merciless sun, with the words and the name of his draconic heritage burning through his confusion.

The final phrase fades, but its meaning settles into Elion with startling clarity: Vaelith is his reflection, and the blood of Old runs through him. The knowledge arrives without a translation he can repeat.

I carry draconic blood. Draconic heritage. But how did I understand any of that?

Vaelith

Vaelith

Be well, Haal’vur.

Vaelith smiles. Its golden eyes remain fixed on Elion as the grey void folds inward, carrying the dragon and every unanswered detail beyond reach.

Elion wakes in the inn bed, drenched in sweat as though he has lain beneath a merciless sun. The room is dim, rainwater ticking faintly beyond the shutters.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Vaelith was me. The message was real, but I can hold only its meaning, not the words themselves.

The effort to understand consumed the remainder of the night. Elion has gained certainty about his heritage, but the untranslated phrases and Vaelith’s warning leave their precise meaning beyond his grasp.

“i woke up at around 4 in the morning. I went to train outside, awaiting Saadia to wake from her deep slumber so i could tell her about my dream. With my longsword and shortsword, i practice my swordsmanship, while also trying to incorporate my fire magic into my fighting style. All of this while trying to make sense of this dream”

At four in the morning, Elion steps into the rain-washed yard with his longsword and shortsword. The inn sleeps behind him while he begins measured forms beneath the paling sky.

The longsword cuts a broad line, the shortsword guards close, and fire gathers along Elion’s movements without breaking their rhythm. Each pivot feeds the next strike, turning flame into timing rather than spectacle.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

Vaelith was not warning me about a place. He was showing me what I am, and telling me the blood of Old is already awake.

The realization steadies his practice. Fire wraps the longsword’s edge, then withdraws as the shortsword turns beneath it, leaving the blades unharmed and the sequence clean.

A hinge whispers behind him. Saadia stands beneath the inn’s eaves, a young vampire woman with dark curls and a travel cloak over her sleeping clothes, watching the final form.

That was not ordinary sword practice. Your fire answered the movement instead of fighting it. Everything's alright?

I had the strangest dream Saadia, im confused, i don't understand...

“I continue and explain to her that i met an individual made of glass. It was made of glass because it was suppose to reflect me. So when i looked at it, i could only see me. Then, it transformed into a dragon Saadia. I don't understand. It was enormous. Dragon's are known to be only a tale now, but Saadia, it was all real. They're terrifying looking. How did the Hero Kheros even exterminate them hundreds of years ago? The glass individual called itself Vaelith and said that i have a draconic Heritage Saadia. She doesnt scream but Saadia's just as shock and confuse as me. i continue and tell her how it then spoke an unknown language to me but i understood it all... It called me Haal'vur and Eliq. As i say this, her eyes widen. I tell her that i understand her reaction but before i could finish, she tells me that it's not that, she continues and tells me that my voice just echoed, just now. Im baffled.”

I met an individual made of glass. It reflected me, so all I could see was myself. Then it became an enormous dragon. Vaelith said I carry draconic heritage. Dragons are supposed to be only tales. How did Great Hero Kheros exterminate them?

Saadia does not scream, but the color drains from her face. Her dark eyes remain fixed on Elion, caught between disbelief and the certainty that his fear is genuine.

Elion Draemnor

Elion Draemnor

It spoke an unknown language, yet I understood everything. It called me Haal’vur and Eliq. I know how that sounds, Saadia, but it was real.

Saadia’s eyes widen further. She lifts one hand toward him, then stops before touching him, as if even a careful gesture might disturb what the dream has awakened.

Saadia

Saadia

It is not the dragon that frightens me most. Your voice just echoed, Elion. Not across the yard, but from somewhere behind it, as though another voice spoke through the same words.

The rain-washed stones hold only the ordinary hush of dawn. Then the final syllable of Saadia’s warning returns from the empty yard, faint and deeper than her voice.

Saadia

Saadia

Haal’vur and Eliq may be names, titles, or words from Vaelith’s language. I do not know which yet, but your heritage is no longer something we can dismiss as a dream.

“you're right, but let's head to the inn. we must prepare to- before i could finish, a screeching, gut wrenching sound is heard in the sky. Elion and Saadia freeze. Elion freezes. Saadia also. they look in the sky and its a dragon. it spots them and rushes on the ground, exploding the area, destroying about 99% of the inn, killing many and injuring most. Elion cannot hear anything. Him and Saadia are covered in blood. Elion vomits blood and is gravely nauseous. he looks around and he sees Lydia drenched in blood, alongside Lioran who despite seeming to have lost an arm and is losing blood, casts a healing spell that is so vasts, it covers the are of the inn. it is a catastrophe. Elion unsheathe his longsword that is lying on the ground, While saadia unsheates her Steel Dagger and Lydia joins them, limping, carrying her cursed mace and cursed shield. the three of them are ready to terminate this dragon”

SUCCESS (Fair Willpower, rolled +0)

Before Elion can finish, a screech tears across the dawn. A vast dragon plunges from the clouds and strikes the inn, reducing nearly all of it to shattered timber, smoke, and silence. Saadia and Elion survive amid the catastrophe; many travelers do not, and most survivors lie injured.

Sound vanishes behind the impact. Elion staggers, violently sick, while Saadia rises through the dust. Nearby, Lydia is bloodied but standing, and Lioran, gravely injured, raises one trembling hand toward the ruined inn.

Lioran

Lioran

Stay back! I can still reach them.

Restorative light floods outward from Lioran, covering the wreckage and the wounded. The spell steadies countless lives, but his face tightens with exhaustion as the magic drains him.

The dragon lands beyond the ruins, its black wings folding over a long, horned body plated in dark bronze scales. Golden eyes fix on the survivors as its breath rolls through the dust.

Elion finds his longsword among the broken boards and closes his hand around its hilt. The terror remains, but he forces his attention through the ringing silence, accepting the cost of a visible hesitation.

Saadia draws her steel dagger. Lydia limps beside them with her cursed mace and shield, and the three survivors form a line before the dragon, ready to end its assault.

“Elion tells Saadia and Lydia that though massive, this one is probably an infant. Then it speaks up, in a deep voice, but less deep thanb Vaelith's voice: So it is you, Haal'vur... it opens its jaw and breathes out a wave of fire. Elion, Lydia and Saadia barely dodge. Lets move all synchronically, screams Elion. Saadia, using her vampiric magic, becomes a bunch of bats and travels at an impressive speed in the sky. She then Bring her hand out and a blood mana tornado engulfs the dragon while bats are swarming it. the dragon swings at the spell and cancels it but Saadia was descending the sky. With her momentum, she slashes the dragon's right eye, planting her dagger deep into it's eye socket. As she was about to cast a blood spike ball into the dragon's eye socket to reach its brain, it trashes her so bad it sends her flying on the ground. The dragon is fast and instantly runs to counter attack. Then Lydia open's her closed eye and it becomes a glowing blue”

Elion Draemnor

Move, all synchronically!

Saadia bursts apart into a storm of bats and races skyward. She reforms above the dragon, thrusting out her hand as blood mana twists into a violent tornado around its wings.

The dragon sweeps one immense wing through the spell, breaking the vortex apart. Saadia descends through the scattered bats, turning her fall into a slashing strike that buries her dagger into the dragon’s right eye before its furious motion hurls her across the earth.

The dragon charges toward Saadia with terrifying speed. Lydia steps between them, opens her previously closed eye, and reveals a glowing blue light as the cursed power within her awakens.

“as her glowning blue eye is open, ghostly blue translucid spirits come from underground and grab one of the dragon's leg firmly interrupting it's charge. Then Lydia runs and without wasting time, uses the dragon's confusion on why his charge has been interrupted. Before it could even comprehend, lydia strikes it with her mace, unleashing the stored agony within it, sending a shockwave at the same time she hit the dragon in the jaws. In a split second decision, elion rushes and imbues his sword of his fiery magic. Using his mana knowledge, he overwhelms his weapon with fire magic and throws it inside the dragon's open mouth. by being overwhelmed, the long sword of Elion explodes in the Dragon's throat. The dragon vomits blood and is now stumbling. Extremely weak on its legs.”

SUCCESS (Fair Arcana, rolled +3)

Ghostly blue spirits surge from the earth around Lydia, their translucent hands locking around the dragon’s leg. Dragon’s charge breaks with a thunderous stumble.

Lydia rushes through the opening. Her cursed mace crashes into the dragon’s jaws, releasing stored agony in a concussive shockwave that snaps its head sideways.

Dragon

Dragon

What have you done, little shield-bearer?

Elion seizes the instant. Fire floods through his longsword until the blade blazes white-orange, mana roaring beyond its safe measure as he hurls it into Dragon’s open mouth.

The overloaded weapon detonates deep in the dragon’s throat. Dragon convulses and vomits blood across the shattered stones as the blast tears through its breath.

Smoke pours between Dragon’s teeth. The immense dragon staggers, legs buckling beneath its weight, while Lydia’s spirits cling firmly and Saadia rises amid scattered dust.

“seeing that its losing, it screams: I Larkaal cannot lose! it tries to get up, thrashing the ground causing earthquakes. Elion anchors his feet and with his fire magic, propulses himself in the sky. Saadia runs in the mean time and uses her bat teleportation to pass by the dragon's intact eye as she stabs it too, blinding it completely. Lydia Strikes another time with the same agony the Dragon suffered, the weapon absorbed and unleashed it again, sending another shockwave snapping the dragon's head. Seeing its gonna die, it tries to flee, but Elion still in the sky boosts himself and attaches himself on its back. As its flying chaotically, Elion climbs the dragon's back mid-flight and reaches its head. He Puts his hands into the right eye socket, and with a single attack where he put all of his mana, he sends a fire wave that passes througb the dragon's brain, melting it, and going out through the other socket. Dragon thrashes upright, shaking the ruined ground with violent quakes. Elion anchors his feet, then drives fire beneath himself and launches into the smoke-filled sky.

Saadia becomes a rushing storm of bats, reappearing beside Dragon’s intact eye. Her dagger strikes, and the dragon reels as darkness takes both eyes.

Lydia’s cursed mace crashes into Dragon’s jaw again. Stored agony bursts outward, snapping its head sideways and breaking its attempt to find a direction through the dust.

Dragon beats its wings and flees blindly. Elion catches its back, clinging to the scales as chaotic flight throws him across its shoulders toward the wounded head.

He reaches the eye socket and pours every remaining measure of fire into it. The wave tears through Dragon’s skull, but the aim breaks before reaching the brain, bursting from the neck in a blazing plume.

Dragon’s flight collapses. Elion is thrown clear as the blinded dragon crashes hundreds of meters away, alive but stunned and unable to rise, while the scorched path separates him from Lydia and Saadia.

FAILURE (Fair Arcana, rolled -1)

Elion catches Dragon’s back as it flees, but the chaotic flight tears him sideways. He claws up the dark scales, reaching the wounded head while fire gutters around his hands.

He drives both hands into the eye socket and releases every remaining measure of mana. Fire surges through Dragon’s skull, but the arc breaks short of the brain and erupts from the neck in a blazing plume.

The failed strike still destroys Dragon’s balance. Its wings fold unevenly, and Elion is hurled clear as the blinded creature crashes far beyond the shattered inn, alive but unconscious.

Elion hits the muddy ground and rolls to a stop, breathless and drained. Between him and the others, the scorched earth marks Dragon’s fallen path.

Saadia

Saadia

Elion! Answer me. Are you hurt?

Saadia crosses the debris-strewn distance in a storm of bats and reforms beside him. Lydia follows more carefully, keeping her cursed mace raised toward the distant, motionless Dragon.

Lydia

It is down, but not dead. We need to decide whether we bind it, flee, or learn why it came for Elion.

“As Larkaal stands, wobbling, it screams in a gurgled voice, choking on its own blood: Haal'vur!!! with nothing but hatred. It tries to charge at Elion and Saadia. Saadia stands up, ready to protect Elion. She raises her dagger as the beast is coming. Lydia runs to try to come to aid her two friends. She throws her shield desesperately towards the dragon, But it never reaches it. In its charge, Larkaal falls, and slowly dies. The beast has lost too much blood. the hole in hi throat from Elion's attack makes his blood go everywhere as he never stopped vomitting blood from the explosion in its throat earlier. in its last breath, Larkaal says, voice echoing this time: Zu draal ghen mor, Haal’vur. then, it dies.”

FAILURE (Mediocre Health, rolled +0)

Dragon lunges. Saadia rises with her dagger ready, placing herself before Elion, while Lydia runs through the debris and throws her shield toward the charging beast.

The shield falls short. Dragon’s charge carries it almost to them, but its strength fails first; the immense body collapses heavily, stopping the attack before it reaches either companion.

Dragon struggles once, then goes still. Its injuries have taken too much, and its fading breath leaves the battlefield quiet except for the settling ruins.

Dragon

Dragon

Zu draal ghen mor, Haal’vur.

The final words echo across the shattered inn before Dragon dies. The phrase remains unexplained, but its hatred was unmistakably directed at Elion, and the fallen creature can no longer pursue him.
