Sir, we need to know more so we can help. Please, speak to us.

Veil looks at every single one of them. He analyzes them.

After reflecting on it, i will give you what you want. Search and locate the notorious bandit Haldvar. He has an unknown goal and i believe he plans something like 8 years ago. I cannot tell you what for i do not know, but this is what i’ve collected.

The Guardians look at each other and they don’t add anything. After some time, they leave but bring back pieces found on the battlefield, so they can investigate on what happened. As they leave, Veil stares at them, knowing one thing, he cannot trust the governement of Akav’Ren.

“Veil stays by the group side, as they all wake up. Elion finally open his eyes, and sees Veil, his old Butler from Akav’Ren. Elion has tears in his eyes as he hugs Veil. Veil hugs him back, glad to see him. The others, now awake though badly marked from the fight: Lydia has lost a part of her hair, Oskar has a scar on his torso, Saadia as a massive scar on her stomach, and Lioran has lost an Arm, his left arm. They all look at the scene, smiling at seeing Elion reuniting with someone close to him.”

Veil remains beside the sheltered group as consciousness returns. Lydia, Oskar, Saadia, and Lioran slowly open their eyes, battered and marked by the battle, but alive.

Elion finally opens his eyes and finds Veil watching over him. Recognition breaks through his exhaustion, and tears gather in his eyes before he pulls his old butler into an embrace.

Veil

Young Elion. You are awake. I feared I would lose you before you could remember me.

Veil hugs him back, holding him with familiar care. His guarded expression softens completely, and relief replaces the severity he carried before the Guardians.

The others look on from their shelters. Lydia’s hair is partly gone, Oskar bears a scar across his torso, and Saadia carries a massive scar across her stomach.

Lioran rests with his left arm missing, his remaining hand folded over the blanket. Despite every mark and loss, the companions smile as they watch Elion reunite with someone dear to him.

It is good to see you awake, my love. And it is good to see you with someone who has been waiting for you.

For a moment, no one spoke. Bruised, scarred, and diminished, they rested together beneath the sheltering canvas.

You came back to me, Veil.

Veil

Veil

As you came back to us, my lord.

Elion held him tightly. Around them, Lydia, Oskar, Saadia, and Lioran watched with weary smiles, their wounds no longer stronger than their relief.

Rest first. Vengeance can wait until we can stand.

For tonight, we were alive. Together, that was enough.

The battle ended in scars, absences, and truths that could no longer remain buried, but it had not ended them. Beneath the canvas, Elion and his companions found a fragile peace in one another, while the wounded world settled into silence around them. For one hard-won night, they rested together, and the chapter closed.
