The Final Jump at the Vestibule

The vestibule shudders under another hit. White glare fades on the torn frame, and dust sifts through the carriage like ash. Beyond the door, boots and shouted orders pound closer.

The Operative

They are closing in. We are out of time, Archer.

Agnes Bell

The charge is live. Once it goes, there is no coming back for the dossier.

Mallory

Mallory

If they get aboard, they take everything. If we jump now, we still have a chance.

The Railway Man staggers in from the platform side, face pale, hands raised. He keeps his eyes on the bundle and then on the dark gap to the station below.

The Railway Man

The guards are on the platform. Jump for the gravel, and move fast. I can only hold them a moment.

The ancient whisper from the dossier seems to press at the inside of Sharp Archer’s skull, faint but urgent, while the carriage rocks hard on its springs. The exit, the explosives, and the enemy surge all meet in the same breath.

Sharp Archer stands at the broken threshold with rifle ready, the live charge in reach, the black platform below, and the choice to make the last move now.

We start running as the enemy is blinded by the flashbang. They charge in after us, disoriented, not realizing the train cart is set to expload.

SUCCESS (Good Agility, rolled -1)

The Final Jump at the Vestibule

Sharp Archer drives through the gap first, boots hitting the platform edge as the flash-blind men surge into the wrong side of the carriage. The others follow on his heels, and the stalled train groans behind them.

The Operative

The Operative

Move. Now.

He lands hard on the gravel below, the M1 Garand clattering against his chest. A hot sting bites his shoulder where he catches the fall, but he stays upright.

Agnes Bell

Agnes Bell

Go, go, go!

Mallory drops beside him with the bundle tucked tight, and the Railway Man stumbles after, one arm still thrown back toward the carriage as a warning.

They still think we're inside.

Behind them, boots crash into the vestibule and a shouted order snaps from the carriage they have already left behind. The train rattles, the live charge ticking their escape into seconds.

The Railway Man

The Railway Man

Keep low, along the wall. If you stop, they spot you.

Sharp Archer reaches the shadow of the station wall with the team, and the whispering mark slips from danger into memory as the dossier stays with Agnes Bell in motion. The platform opens ahead, forcing the next decision on where to run before the guards recover.

I cast shadow magic to keep us hidden and healing magic to close the bullet wound in my shoulder

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcane ballistics, rolled +1)

The Final Jump at the Vestibule

Sharp Archer plants himself against the wall and drags the shadow with a sharp, whispered pull. The platform seems to dim around the team, turning their bodies into thin outlines against the soot and steam.

The shoulder wound is hot, but manageable.

He lays two fingers to the torn cloth and threads healing light into the sting. The ache tightens, then eases as the blood stops wetting his sleeve.

Agnes Bell

Agnes Bell

Good, keep it like that.

Mallory freezes in the shadow line, bundle hugged tight, while the Operative peers back toward the carriage mouth through the gloom. The Railway Man presses flat to the wall, breathing shallow, as the platform ahead loses its sharp edges.

The Operative

The Operative

They will have trouble picking us out now.

Behind them, the open vestibule flickers with movement, but the team is already swallowed by darkness and steam. Agnes Bell keeps the dossier close, its mark hidden with her hand as they wait for the next move.

We keep running as the demolition goes off, killing dozens of nazis

SUCCESS (Good Athletics, rolled +0)

The Final Jump at the Vestibule

Sharp Archer breaks from the wall first, and the others follow in a low run through the steam. Behind them, the charge on the train speaks with a hard, muffled crack.

The carriage door blows light through the haze, and a sheet of metal slams loose across the platform. Men inside go down in the flash and smoke, their shouts swallowed at once.

The blast hammers the station lamps and shakes grit from the bricks. Archer keeps moving, boots skidding on the wet stone as heat licks the back of his coat.

Agnes Bell

Agnes Bell

Move. Now.

Mallory hauls the wired bundle closer to his chest while he runs, jaw clenched against the shock. The Operative glances once over his shoulder, then signals them onward with a sharp hand.

The Operative

The Operative

Keep with the wall. Do not look back.

The Railway Man stumbles, catches himself, and pushes on beside the others as the platform fills with echoing alarm. The marked dossier page stays in Agnes Bell's grip, bent tight against her palm as they clear the blast.

We make it to our extraction point
