Trapped in the Service Route

The service route narrows into wet brick and rusted grate. Ahead, the platform stairs flicker weakly, and every bootstep behind them echoes louder through the station.

Sharp Archer signals the others to slow and stay low. The damp debris patch lies across the path, a slick choke point that can betray them or stall pursuit.

Agnes Bell

If the police round this bend, we are done for.

Mallory

Mallory

We take the stairs now, or we lose the demolition point.

Evans

And if the sweep cuts us off, we will not reach the tracks in time.

A shape in a raincoat leans from the concourse opening above, watching the route below. A second figure, in a greasy railway cap, keeps to the shadow beside the stair rail, eyes fixed on the team’s bag and the dossier page.

The threat resolves at once, the police are closing from behind, while unseen rivals already guard the way forward. To finish the sabotage, Sharp Archer must get the team through this choke point and onto the platform stairs before either side seals them in.

✓ Quest Accepted

Get the team through the choke point and onto the platform stairs

I look around to determine who is around us and if anyone will notice if I silently kill the guards

SUCCESS (Good Perception, rolled -2)

Sharp Archer tracks the choke point in a quick sweep. The stairwell mouth is watched from above, the shadow by the rail from below, and the service bend behind them is too tight for a clean retreat.

Sharp Archer

Sharp Archer

Two watchers ahead, police behind. No clean witness line.

He judges the spacing at a glance. If he moves first, the raincoat can see only the stairs. If he waits, the railway man can warn somebody in the crush.

Agnes Bell tightens her grip on the dossier page, trying to keep it flat against her coat. Mallory and Evans hold still, listening for boots.

The route offers no safe shadow for a body to drop without being missed. Any silent takedown here will need speed, cover, and a clean fall into the blind side of the stair rail.

The Railway Man

If they hesitate, I can call the police down.

A faint clatter from above shifts the balance. One of the patrolmen behind them turns at the sound, and the opening narrows from both ends at once.

I cast shadow to help conceal the area, and arcane pistol to silently kill the guards.

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcane ballistics, rolled +1)

Trapped in the Service Route

Sharp Archer spreads his focus wide, and the darkness answers. The service route seems to swallow the lamp glare, thinning the line between stair, rail, and coat.

His arcane pistol comes up in one smooth motion. The first watcher at the stair mouth stiffens, then drops out of sight without a shout.

The second figure by the rail starts to turn, but the shadow catches him too. He folds into the blind side of the stairs before a word can carry.

That's it. Keep the page flat. Keep moving.

Mallory and Evans surge forward at the opening, boots quick on the slick floor, while Agnes keeps the dossier pressed tight against her coat.

Down there, now. They are looking this way.

Above them, the patrol edge shifts under the new hush, and the stairs to the platform stand open for one fast push.

We push fast using the shadows to be hidden. As we pass through, i have my shadows consume the bodies i left so there's no trace of anyone being there

SUCCESS (Legendary Arcane ballistics, rolled -2)

Trapped in the Service Route

Sharp Archer lets the dark spill off the stair shadow and onto the two fallen watchers. Their outlines blur, then sink flat as if swallowed by soot.

The team moves in that same seam of cover, shoulders tight, feet careful on the slick route, the marked dossier page still pinned to Agnes Bell’s chest.

Agnes Bell

Keep low. Do not make them look twice.

Mallory slips through first, Evans right behind him, while The Railway Man glances once over his shoulder and then commits to the stairs.

Behind them, the patrol’s boots scrape closer, but the darkness hides the team’s shape long enough to buy the crossing.

One of the swallowed forms leaves a smear of cold ash on the floor, a faint trace where a body used to be.

Now. Up, before they see what we’ve done.
