Cold mist parts ahead of Captain Arnold Runner’s bow. A black, armored Fun Police vessel rises out of it, square and ugly as a prison cell, cutting off the harbor mouth.
At its prow stands Captain Funbain, scar running bright beneath the spray. He fixes Arnold with the look of a hound that has finally cornered the scent.

Captain Funbain
Halt there, Runner. Your cargo and your crew are under review.
The Fun Police guns swing toward Arnold’s deck in a slow, disciplined arc. His own ship shudders as the helmsman snaps it hard to starboard, trying to break the line of fire.

Captain Arnold Runner
Hold course. We are not waiting for their paperwork.
Canvas bellies fill, ropes groan, and the chase begins in earnest across the choppy gray water. The newly hired hands move fast, while the ledger and cargo below suddenly feel a great deal more watched.
If Funbain catches him, every treaty, trade, and recruited deckhand becomes leverage. If Arnold slips the trap, he keeps both his profit and his growing network one step ahead of the law.

Outrun the Fun Police blockade
“Captain Arnold struggles to conceal the hurt and panic in his voice. "Full sails ahead! Load chicken shot in the stern guns! All hands on deck!"”
SUCCESS (Legendary Communication: Command, rolled +1)

Captain Arnold Runner
Full sails ahead! Load chicken shot in the stern guns! All hands on deck!
The shout snaps through the deck like a whip. Men scatter to stations, canvas strains tight, and the stern gunners lunge for their weapons as the ship starts to claw for speed.

The Harbor Master
That is a fighting order if I have ever heard one. Move, you idle dogs, move!
Below, the loaded cargo groans while the deck tilts under fresh wind. The harbor mouth narrows behind them, but Arnold’s ship now answers the helm with a harder, faster run.

Captain Funbain
Steady guns. He thinks he can sprint past judgment.
Funbain’s vessel swings to keep pace, yet the gap opens a little as Arnold’s crew gets the war gear ready. The stern guns are primed, and the chase has become a race with teeth.
“"Fire chicken shot! Aim directly for their captain!"”
SUCCESS (Good Fencing, rolled +0)

The stern guns cough as one. Iron pellets rake Funbain’s rail and smash through the spray, punching his line of advance off its smooth tack.
Captain Funbain jerks back, one shoulder clipped by flying splinters, and his officers duck for cover. The blockade’s front edge falters for a heartbeat.

Captain Funbain
Bowmen, blind them! Cut that captain off from his own wake!
But the shot has already done its work. Arnold’s ship bites into the wind, slipping into the gap the blast opens.
The cost lands at once, too, the foremost gun erupts with a cracked carriage and a burst of powder smoke, leaving the deck stinking of singed oak.

The Harbor Master
There, that is the road. Keep her moving, Captain Runner!
