The western flame withdraws into the deep earth. Amber light fades from the pillars, and the sanctum’s oppressive heat gives way to cool air scented with rain and stone.
Beyond the altar, the newly opened path divides beneath a vaulted arch. One branch climbs toward the village shrine; another descends west, where pale elemental light moves beneath the rock.

the western guardian
My power no longer answers your blood, but the path I guarded remains. Beyond it lies the place where unbound fire gathers without a master.
The ordinary ember rests above Kokoro’s palm, dark at its center but ringed with a faint red glow. It no longer bears the guardian’s crescent, only her family mark.

Sella Venn
You released an ancient power and survived its leaving. Now we must learn whether your elemental gift can stand without the guardian’s shadow.

Mira Venn
The upper path returns to the shrine, but the western descent is new. Whatever waits below, it was hidden from every keeper before you.
Far above, the village elder remains alone beside the sealed rings. Below, Sella and Mira stand with Kokoro at the branching threshold as the westward light pulses once, inviting no one and forbidding no one.

Bowing to the western guardian
Director's note
Kokoro descends down towards the unbound fire.
“Thank you, revered guardian. I will go forward and see what can be learned from the masterless unbound fire.”
SUCCESS (Superb Agility, rolled -1)

Kokoro
Thank you, revered guardian. I will go forward and see what can be learned from the masterless unbound fire.
Kokoro bows to the western guardian. The towering ember-form inclines its crowned head, then dissolves into the deep earth, leaving the sanctum peaceful and still.

Sella Venn
Go, then. Let the fire reveal itself without a bloodline’s command. We will carry word of your choice back to the shrine.
Kokoro descends the western stair. Its stones warm beneath her boots, and the ordinary ember above her palm awakens with a clear red glow, guiding her into a cavern veined with light.
At the cavern’s heart, unbound fire gathers in silent streams around a crystal spring. It has no master, yet it answers Kokoro’s presence by forming a calm, open flame.

Mira Venn
It does not kneel to you. It recognizes you, and that may be the greater freedom.
The flame settles into the spring without surrendering its will. Kokoro understands the final lesson: her elemental gift remains her own, and the future no longer demands an inherited answer.

The guardian’s last glow sank beneath the stone. In the ordinary ember, only Kokoro’s family mark remained.

Kokoro
Not inherited. Not borrowed. Mine.
Below, unbound fire gathered around the crystal spring, calm and bright. It recognized her presence without bowing to it.

Kokoro
Then I will carry you freely.
Kokoro descended into the veined cavern and stood beside the masterless flame, no longer heir to a power that commanded her, but its chosen keeper by her own will. Above, the guarded path remained open, while the sealed rings held their silence. The old inheritance ended there, and in its place began a life that belonged wholly to Kokoro.
