Kokoro bows toward the western guardian’s absent flame. Beside the dark pool, Vael remains with her, while Claire has stayed above near the rain gate to copy the revealed signs.
The pool suddenly reflects a red flame-shaped mark pointing upward through the stone. No matching symbol exists on the chamber floor, yet its reflection burns clear beneath the water.
Vael Tern
The spring is not merely where the fire begins. It is where what remains unbound gathers to reveal what it remembers.
Separate flames brighten around the basin. Each casts a distinct route upward through the stone, their colors crossing in reflection without merging in the living chamber.
Vael Tern
Those routes lead toward the spring. None is the true path above the others. Each carries a different memory, waiting to manifest.
Kokoro
The red mark points upward, but the routes do not become one.
The dark pool deepens beneath the reflected mark. Far overhead, stone answers with a muted warmth, while every separate flame turns toward its chosen ascent and waits.

Witness what the separate flames manifest
“I study each route for the memory its flame carries.”
SUCCESS (Legendary Lore, rolled -1)
Kokoro bows toward the western guardian’s absent flame, then studies each ascending route. Her emberlight touches them without contact, revealing differences in color, rhythm, and memory.
The branching route carries amber sparks that divide around old stone, remembering the first fire’s many beginnings. Each fragment preserves the warmth of its own choosing.
The solitary route burns blue-white and moves in measured silence. Its memory is separation without loss, each flame retaining its shape while passing beyond the others.
The departing route glows pale violet, shedding brief reflections as it rises. It remembers release: an open hand, a granted direction, and no return demanded.
Vael Tern
You have read what each carries. Becoming many, remaining distinct, and departing freely are not competing answers. They are memories of one unbound choice.
The red mark above gathers all three memories in reflection, never merging the living flames. The routes remain separate, but their meanings are clear to Kokoro.
Vael Tern
The spring will receive no single tale from you. Carry these differences upward, and let each memory remain faithful to the flame that bears it.
