F steps through the parted water and finds a new stair waiting behind the black pool. The air changes at once, colder and drier, stripped of bog-muck and stone damp. Below, a narrow passage breathes out a faint ember glow.
Torin comes in behind them, one hand skimming the wall for balance. Above, the grotto mouth is already fading from sight, swallowed by distance and shadow.

Torin
This is not on any map I know.
The stair opens into a lower vault of fitted basalt, its floor slick with mineral sheen. Old channels cut through the stone toward a sealed arch, and the ember light grows stronger with every step.

The Watcher
The path changes because it has accepted you. Keep moving, and do not spend words on fear.
At the far end of the chamber, a tall figure waits where the glow pools brightest, half hidden by hanging mineral veils. The stranger does not advance, only raises a hand in warning as the last of the stair's echo dies.

The Stranger
One more step, and you wake what sleeps under this vault.

Confront the stranger at the sealed arch
“I'd keep walking, frowning, not liking this stranger "I've held in the ember heart, you can't stop me" I would say with a growl”
SUCCESS (Legendary Intimidation, rolled -2)

F
I keep walking, frowning. I've held the Ember Heart, and you do not stop me.
F's words strike the vault like iron. The stranger's raised hand falters, and the mineral veils tremble as if in a draft. Torin stops dead on the stair behind, eyes fixed on the arch.

The Stranger
That tone... they mean it.

The Stranger
Fine. Pass, then. But if the sleeper stirs, it is on you.
The way clears, but the stranger's jaw tightens. A small crack of displaced stone pops from the archframe, and the noise echoes hard through the chamber.

Torin
That was close. Too close.
From the far wall, the sealed arch answers with a faint ember pulse, and the black channels in the floor glimmer like something has heard them.
