Adventure of F and Torin

The stair drops fast, then levels into a lower corridor slick with cold seepwater. Torchlight wavers along carved stone, and the air carries iron, ash, and something older, like buried rain.

F reaches the foot of the steps and stops at a long archway half-swallowed by moss. Beyond it, a narrow grotto opens around a black pool, its surface trembling with ember-bright reflections.

A low pulse rolls through the chamber, and the water answers with a faint shimmer. Along the far wall, a ring of old bronze chains hangs over a cracked stone dais.

Torin tightens near F, staring at the pool as if it might speak next. The air warms by a breath, and the hidden chamber waits, listening.

F lowers their blackened hand into the pool. The surface does not splash, it parts like dark glass admitting a blade.

Cold floods up their arm, then warmth answers beneath it, a pulse that is not water at all but memory or fire trapped under stillness.

In the ripple, shapes surface, a buried stair, a sealed span of stone, and beyond them a vast chamber lit by ember veins.

Torin stiffens beside F, staring into the reflection as if the chamber has just learned their names.

The black surface steadies again, but the image lingers in F's mind like heat under ash.
