Adventure of F

A seam of light splits the chamber floor beside the marble pedestal, and the air tastes of hot stone and rain. F and Torin step away as the crystalline map dims to a steady pulse behind them.

The seam widens into a round doorway, and warm draft rolls out from below, carrying the scent of ash and old iron. Torin stops at the threshold, staring down into the opening.

Below, a narrow stair drops into torchlit dark. The walls are cut smooth, and faint ember runes flicker along the steps like banked coals waking up.

The chamber stays still, but the new passage waits with patient heat. Torin glances once at F, then puts one boot on the first step.

F steps onto the first stair, and the ember runes answer with a warm, low glow under their feet.

Torin holds at the threshold, watching F go down, his hand hovering as if to follow or pull back.
