Tenda Wildheart leads the group out of the shrine courtyard and onto a knife-thin ledge road. The mountain path clings to a sheer canyon wall, wind worrying at loose stones as pursuit echoes somewhere behind them.

Below, a frozen river cuts through black rock, silver in the late light. The Wounded Survivor stumbles hard, breath ragged, and the pace starts to break them.

Kaelen

Kaelen

Too slow... if I stop, I do not get up again.

The Warlord's Daughter keeps close, one hand near her blade, eyes flicking from the trail to the survivor. Her fighters spread in a wary line, listening to every sound the canyon throws back.

Mei

This path favors a trap. If they are ahead of us, we walk into it.

A sharp crack answers from the rocks above, pebbles skittering down the wall. The hidden trail bends around a jutting spur, and for a heartbeat the group can see a lower shelf path beyond it, faster but exposed.

Kaelen

Kaelen

Do not leave me behind.

The wind surges, carrying the sound of boots from the ridge behind them, closer now.

Create a gap between the group and the pursuers

I ask daisy if she can heal the survivor

FAILURE (Poor Healing Arts, rolled +0)

Tenda turns at the survivor’s ragged plea and lifts a hand, not to strike, but to call the healer closer.

Tenda Wildheart

Tenda Wildheart

Daisy, can you help them?

Daisy kneels beside the survivor, fingers already at their wrist, and her face tightens. She checks the pulse, then the bandage, then the pale set of their mouth.

Daisy

Daisy

I can ease the pain, but they have been walking on a torn leg for too long. If I push hard, I may worsen it.

Kaelen

Kaelen

I cannot keep slowing everyone down.

The Warlord's Daughter watches Daisy work without interrupting, her jaw set. For the first time, her hand leaves her sword hilt and rests at her side.

Mei

Mei

If your healer needs room, my fighters can keep the path clear. For a little while.

Daisy presses a folded strip of cloth into the survivor's hand, then looks up toward Tenda, waiting for his nod before she commits to the wound.

I give daisy the go ahead to commit to the wound. If anyone shows up, zero and tenda will fight them off with the Warlords daughter and her guards

Tenda gives a sharp nod, and Daisy’s hands move at once. Her cloth wraps tighter, her fingers steadier, and the survivor flinches only once before breathing easier.

The Wounded Survivor sags against the stone, but their leg is now braced and held. Pain stays, yet panic drains from their face.

Daisy

Daisy

Hold still. I have it from here.

The Warlord’s Daughter steps closer to the outer edge, scanning the ledge road ahead. Behind her, two fighters spread out and take the higher rock shelf.

Mei

Mei

If anyone comes, they meet us first.

A hard clatter of boots breaks from the bend above, then another. The sound is closer now, no longer just a rumor in the wind.

Tenda Wildheart

The ledge is too narrow for a long fight.

Daisy tightens the final wrap and presses the survivor’s foot into place, while the Daughter lifts one hand, signaling her line to hold. The pursuers are about to enter sight.

Tenda shifts into guard stance beside the ledge, shoulders squared to the narrow road. The Warlord’s Daughter mirrors him at the edge, both of them reading the bend like a blade point.

Zero, draw steel. Rex, get ready to pounce.

Farther back on the trail, a second set of boots answers the first. The pursuers are close enough now that dust slips loose from the rock with every step.

Rex lowers his body beside the stone and fixes on the bend, muscles tight and tail rigid, waiting for the first shape to appear.

The Wounded Survivor presses their braced foot to the ground and stays upright, eyes wide but steadying as they watch Tenda hold the line.

Mei

Mei

Good. If they rush this ledge, they rush into us.

The path ahead opens just enough to show the first pursuer’s shadow at the bend, while the rest remain hidden behind it. The gap is real, but only for a breath.

I lead the attack trying to knock the pursues over the cliffs edge.

Tenda moves first. He slips inside the reach of the lead pursuer, hooks an ankle with his own, and drives through with his shoulder. The man pinwheels over the ledge and vanishes into the drop, his shout cut off by stone.

The second pursuer checks his feet too late. He skids on loose grit, arms windmilling, and slams hard into the outer edge. Pebbles and a dropped blade tumble after him into the canyon.

The cost lands with the victory, Tenda’s knuckles split on rock and hot blood streaks his palm. The impact also sends a sharp crack through the ledge, and a fist-sized slab breaks free behind him.

Mei

Mei

Move, now. The path is failing under us.

She jerks one fighter back from the edge and opens a hand toward the safer side of the road, eyes locked on the collapsing stone. Behind Tenda, the broken lip crumbles wider, making the surviving pursuers’ footing vanish.

Rex surges forward to guard the rear, teeth bared at the dark gap where boots were a moment ago. The Wounded Survivor flinches at the crash, then steadies on their braced leg as the sound of pursuit drops away into the ravine.

The immediate chase is broken, but the ledge is now split and unstable ahead, with the only clear route forcing the group toward whatever waits beyond the bend.
